The animal is related to wolves, coyotes, and dogs.

He’s not a cat.

Calling him one makes him lash out like the brat he is.

He does not meow and purr.

The jackal is a small carnivorous mammal of the genus Canis, which also includes the wolf, dog, and coyote.

Jackals and coyotes are opportunistic omnivores and proficient scavengers. Their long legs and curved canine teeth are adapted for hunting small mammals, birds, and reptiles, and their large feet and fused leg bones give them a physique well-suited for long-distance running, capable of maintaining speeds of 16 km/h (9.9 mph) for extended periods of time. Jackals are crepuscular, most active at dawn and dusk.

Their most common social unit is a monogamous pair.

Headcanon 03: Citizens of Hell

Some demons in Tartaros are younger than others. For example, Sayla, I have headcanoned, is among the oldest there. She’s a veteran of sorts. One of the earliest of his children.

The younger ones, as best displayed in Minerva and Jackal, still outburst and react abruptly. While Marde, Sayla, and to some extent, Kyouka act more calmly.

How this happens is that with each death the newborn casts away a piece of them. For example, Minerva casting away sight. A sacrifice of sorts, Tempesta his memory, Kyouka her legs, etc. It is when the demon is fullfledged that he no longer looks warped, and takes on the image of a regular human. However, all of them is gone, essentially, and their true demon form lies within having been given the ability to deceive and hide behind a human face.

It is the strongest that appear human, perfect–without flaw.

Headcanon 02: The Descent.

You can still hold some of your humanity even after becoming a demon. In the transition, upon first birth, you gain the strength. Significant and unlike any other. However, your first death as a demon is what truly marks you as one. It is in that first death that the demon relinquishes their fear of dying–a human fear.

It’s the one striking character trait he has, I think. Like, when I tap into his muse, all I can think about is how incredibly selfish he is. It doesn’t matter what it is either. If he holds even the SLIGHTEST interest in it he WILL have it. It could go from something as simple as material possession to an actual person. He doesn’t care who it affects, or how.

To some extent, he does not mind sharing. There is a definite perk to having someone around him experience the same feeling of elation as he does.

It is when his enjoyment is lessened by anything else that a problem arises (see what happened with Lamy during the fight with Lucy). It can be something as petty as that. Attacking someone who he was previously allied to in order to ensure his own satisfaction. He was the one that wanted to destroy Lucy, and would have no one else dare take his spot in her outcome.

Going off of this, I can actually see him SAVING her if only to MAKE SURE that HE was the one that killed her.

That’s how his mind works.

I don’t do anything without the appropriate amount of development, shipping or otherwise. So, if Jackal does not have some sort of a past with your muse, he will more than likely want to punch straight through them, if not play with them for his own enjoyment. With development, maybe, picturing an excruciating death for your muse will fall back on his list of things that please him. Until then, he is the biggest asshole ever. You have been warned.

On shipping: I don’t ever go through with ships simply for the sake of shipping. FLUFF is not a must-have for me. No relationship revolves, much less thrives on fluff alone. It’s unrealistic. There will be angst and tears and fights and development. More so with this muse, who NEEDS development in order to have any feelings for, well, anyone.

He’s probably my most selfish muse yet. No one’s “happiness” is placed above his own.
