I am a female resident obgyn training in a small hospital the doctor I was training with was a older lady she asked if I would be interested in learning how to do circumcisions in the back of my mind I remember being very excited to learn this I had been training with her for months helping and assisting her the method I was trained on was the gomco clamp she said it was my decision if I wanted to use a anesthetic A couple of months later she has called into work sick and called me and asked if could cover for her well the day before we had 3 births 2 of which were boys she had time the day before that evening to circ one of them i walked into the nursery to look at little Davids chart there was nothing in the chart about him needing to be circumcised I made my rounds that morning checking on the other 2 infants then my attention turned to baby David I walked into the mothers room and was going over things with her she was a very young 18 year old girl I made sure I had the rest of my morning freed up I had asked her if she wanted little David circumcised she said yes she has asked if he would feel anything and I simply said oh no he won’t feel a thing by this time I’m feeling a sence of excitement it almost seemed like time was in slow motion as she signed the consent form she asked if he would be circed now and I said yes I grabbed baby David and wheeled him out into the hall way and shut her door I stopped by the nursery and checked on the other 2 babies real quick and told the nurse I was taking baby David to the circ room she asked if I needed help and I said no it’s just him I will be ok i wheel baby david back out into the hallway and down the hall there was a few empty storage rooms then at the very end of the hallway was the circ room i entered the room with baby david and shut and locked the door behind me and turned on the big over head light baby david began to wake up I had got out all of my equipment and laid it out on the counter I then grabbed the circ board from the cabinet behind me and placed it on the counter I then turn my attention to baby david I took off his little outfit his mother had on him and placed it aside by this time he is wide awake i then removed his diaper and laid him on the cold circ board then strapped his little arms and legs down he fussed for just a second then calmed down i then got into the drawer and got out my gomco clamp 1.45 and opened it up I then put on my sterile gloves on and realized we was all out of anesthetic i proceeded without it I picked up the forceps grabbing the foreskin at 9 and 3 o’clock positions he begins to fuss I then insert the probe under his foreskin as he lets out a scream like none I had heard before I ran the probe between the skin for a minute or so to make sure I had all the adhesions broke up I then make a dorsal crush and then cut that open I use my probe to finish removing the left over adhesions still screaming toes curling the adhesions was all broke up I then place the bell of the gomco over the head and secure the foreskin with a safety pin brought the bell through the baseplate then added the rocker plate and nut to the gomco I then pull more skin through about half the skin in the clamp I then proceed to tighten the clamp as tight as it would go he lets out another ear piercing scream trying to break free from the straps to no avail that’s why the room is so far down the hall so no one can hear the screaming I let the clamp set for 5 minutes cut off the foreskin and remove the clamp I was not done yet I then turn to the underside of his penis and snip the frenulum he once again lets out a ear piercing scream all done I clean the area and and put ointment on his penis and cover it with a bandage unstrap his legs and place a diaper under him I then unstrap his arms and remove him from the circ board holding him this he calmed down about 20 minutes later I then return baby david to his mom she asked how he did and I replied he did well he slept right through it we both agreed it was good

My son was done with the gomco clamp its the best way to get all the skin off at once the brown circ ring is about 1 ½ inches behind the head and there is no moveable skin on his penis (just the way i like it to be)

Hey there. My wife was reading through your post and suggested that I should reply - see things from a guy’s perspective. I’m Steven, a typical 33 year-old American guy. We had our son circumcised after he was born for a number of reasons. Like some of your commenters say - it is something we’re very used to. All the family and friends (and their sons) done and never been any problems; and we also we believed it was important for junior to be like dad. We thought it was also less maintenance and cleaner in the long run especially in a busy household. A friend of mine also indicated that the CDC has issued new information about studies in Africa that showed an overwhelming drop in the rate of HIV (and other sexually transmitted diseases) in those who were circumcised and that partners of circumcised guys are far less likely to contract cervical cancer. Pretty much enough evidence for me. Anyhow we did it just two days after junior was born - think it was done with a Gomco clamp from the sounds of it - vaseline to be put on for the first few days and a quick easy healing process. Excellent ObGyn who did the procedure made sure there was local anaesthetic and junior slept through it and fed well afterwards. Both of us pretty happy with the decision we took and would do it again if we had another son. Good luck in your decision in any case. And don’t let anyone try and tell you that if you did decide to do it you made a mistake. It’s still prett y popular here in the US - we’re in NJ and all the kids of friends have been done too.

Its a personal choice. Or you can leave it up to your son. We chose to. Quick and easy, easy recovery…no problem. Glad we did it. Just do your research, you will get a lot of opinions.

Its better to do it when they are born so they don’t remember it and its not as painful i am for sure getting it done hear its a quick easy recovery and i think its more sanitary and clean

Both of my sons were circumcised and I don’t regret it… It’s a quick process and easy recovery. It’s really up to you though whether you want to do it now, or let him decided once he gets older.

Not everyone does it now a days, it’s about 50/50 now. We got it done because it was what we preferred, along with a number of reasons. It was simple, he didn’t notice or have any pain because he was numb, and it healed perfectly.

My fiance isn’t cut and we both agree that our son will be cut. Babies play with themselves and when they are uncircumsized they can get infections… i’d do it if i were you.. much cleaner and takes like a week to heal.

We did it and I’m glad we did… quick and easy and i WATCHED it being done and it was NOTHING like the videos you’ll see on youtube… those are very outdated. they say it doesn’t even hurt when they do it that young… they’ll just come back to the room hungry, no matter when you last fed them. I fed my son, brought him up to get it done, and when they ever told me to feed him again I thought they were crazy, but he ate more in that feeding than ever before (he was 2-3 days old). My personal opinion is that its up to you and only you. You are growing that child, if you want it done, get it done, but dont watch the youtube videos because then you definitely won’t wanna get it done.

Personally, both of my sons are. Their father is, his father and brothers are. So we did for the boys too. It’s really purely cosmetic, for the most part. You shouldn’t have to worry about the infection part if you don’t circ too much, I think you have to clean it (?), but I do know that when they are old (like senior citizens) and they aren’t able to clean it on their own, it can become infected and it can lead to having to have it done then. And when an older male has to get it done it is 100 times worse than a baby having it done. It’s not a pleasant situation for a baby, but they are numbed, and for most, it hardly phases them at all.

I’m getting my son circumcised when he gets here.

I got Harper circumsized. I don’t regret it, he didn’t seem phased by it al all either. It healed in a few days, and I don’t have to worry about a weird stinky penis because it isn’t clean. I chose to because of cleanliness.

When we have a son, we are going to definitely circumcise him. My sister circumcised my nephew, they numbed him, and it healed perfectly and painless! It’s up to you, but it’s better to get it done when they are first born. My friend’s boyfriend got circumcised at the age of 19, and he said he really wished his mom would have did it when he was first born, b/c he was in alot of pain getting it done so late in life.

All four of my sons have had the procedure. I watched two of my four sons get circumcised. there are many health benefits to getting it done and even though he is a year old if you want to get it done do it because he wont remember getting it done when he is 18. If the doc that does your son is anything like the docs that did my boys the area is numbed with local anesthesia first so they don’t feel a whole lot until after it wears off then you can give them pain meds to help with the pain management after that and they recover quicker the younger they are

I actually did it when my son was two months old, I didn’t want to wait because i knew it might hurt more. i would still do it now and not wait until he gets older because it will hurt.

Circumcise, its cleaner and later he’ll want one most likely any way for reasons. you’ll just save him a lot of humiliation and pain if you get it done.

I got my son circumcised at birth, so he wouldn’t have to deal with it older if he made the choice. My fiance had it done at 18 because it didn’t find it hygenic but it was very painful and he had wished his parents got it done as a baby. We always agreed that if we had a boy we would get it done when he was little so he wouldn’t have to go thru the same thing.

Like someone said earlier, it is a very personal choice! I circumcised both of my boys within a week of birth because I didn’t want them to have issues later on in life, especially if they join the military because they have to be out in the field, without a shower for days,even weeks on end and infections occur. I have had many, many guy friends have to go through circumcisions between the ages of 18 and 30. They said it was the worst experience ever. Also it doesn’t matter how much you teach someone cleanliness, it’s a personal thing of keeping it up.

I have 3 boys and all of them are circumcised, and i have no regrets. i’ve heard that they can get STD’s easier if they aren’t circumcised and also for hygiene reasons. they used a local anesthetic on all of my children and they only seemed uncomfortable for like a day, they didn’t seem to be in pain. this sounds bad , but i personally think an uncircumcised penis looks weird so i chose for vanity reasons as well.

I have a six year old son and I had him circumcised. I am very happy I did…they did give him something so he wouldn’t feel it when they were doing it but yes it was red for a couple a days but it gets better! but u don’t have to worry about him having infections later in life or anything…but its your choice…but if I have another boy I will have him circumcised again!!!!

My son just turned a year old on Oct. 30 and we had him circumsized when he was 2 days old. When I was pregnant my husband and I decided to get our son circumsized. My husband is circumsized so I guess that is part of the reason we got it done but the other is because it is just easier to keep clean and not worry about it. Plus I didn’t want him to have to worry about it later on in life. The day the doctor did the procedure the nurse took my son and told me they would be right back. When she brought him back he was wrapped up in a blanket and was fine. They said he cried a bit while they did it but it was because they were holding him down. He was ok he didn’t cry about it or anything. If you do decide to get your son circumsized be sure to put lots of petroleum jelly on after every diaper change for awhile-it helps the healing process. We didn’t really have a reason for deciding to get it done we just went with what we felt was right. Just go with your heart and whatever decision you make will be the right one for you.

I got my son circumcised because he’s daddy is and for hygenine purposes. Also, I don’t want him to get the unkind remarks in the locker room in high school that I heard about when I was in high school. My little slept through his entire circumcision, didn’t cry once. The first few days I was nervous about keeping it clean and the blood that was still around it but in a week it was looking almost completely normal. Go with what the daddy thinks as well! :)

I had my son circumcised when he was three weeks old. I went in the room and watched the doctor preform the procedure. YES it was hard to watch and my son screamed but only because he was strapped to the board. I put a numbing cream on the head about 30 minutes before we went in and the doctor injected a numbing agent which was similar to novocaine at the dentist. The procedure was short and as soon as i held him he was fine. There are risks involved of course but boys that are circumcised get less UTI’s and are at less risk for STDs. For me the benefits outweighed the minimal risks

I am having my son circumcised tomorrow and he is 6 months old. For all you mothers who don’t know about circumcision, ask your child’s Pediatrician and not think you know the answer. It does become an issue later in a man’s life. Between cleanliness, infections due to the foreskin becoming tight within the laps and sexual intercourse. Many men curse their mothers later on in life and father’s prefer it because THEY KNOW BETTER. Do your son justice and get him circumcised. Don’t do it because you’re afraid for him. They will not remember.

i would get it done for sure!!! we got our son done at 8 weeks old, they gave him a needle to numb him and he cried for about 5 secs…then they just cut the skin off and it was over within 60 secs he didn’t make a peep! once they are older you take them to hospital and they knock them out, you stay at hospital for ½ day until they are awake and pain free. i know this because my nephew is 2 yrs old and i researched it all for my brother in-aw. i highly recommend it….its only a few days/hours of pain compared to a life time! its much much cleaner and looks nicer too :) good luck

The joy of circumcision: Sarah circumcises her infant son

Moments after his birth, Sarah held her newborn son for the first time. She was in awe, a life-long dream of being a mother now fulfilled. She held her baby boy close, and looked at him, a tiny but healthy 7 pounds. Though only 26 years old, Sarah thought about how long she yearned for this, and now it was real. “This is my son,” she thought to herself as she drew a deep breath as if to soak in the moment.

She then held him slightly upright, in order to see more of him before he was diapered and swaddled for the first time. “So beautiful, so perfect,” she said aloud. She took a mental picture of all that she could, observing his eyes, nose, lips, his tiny fingers and toes. Then, she turned her attention to his penis. It was tiny, but large compared to his body, she noted. “Oh my, you’re going to be quite the man!” was all she could muster as the others in the room began to clean up after the birth.

Later, as she settled into her maternity ward room, Sarah’s thoughts once again turned to her son’s penis. Sarah has seen plenty of penises over the years, from her childhood as a babysitter, and changing her younger cousin’s diapers. In more recent years, she had had several boyfriends before she met the man who was Tyler’s father – though unfortunately her relationship with him ended several months ago. All but two of the penises she had seen in-person and experienced had been circumcised. Her son Tyler’s circumcision was scheduled for the next morning.

The morning seemed to arrive quickly, awakened by a nurse who informed the new mother that “it’s time for Tyler to be circumcised.” A feeling of anticipation swept over Sarah, and she made her way to the circumcision room.There, she saw two newborn babies, still in their cribs, awaiting the nurses to prepare them for their circumcisions. Tyler was the first of the two to be circumcised.

Sarah had seen circumcisions before – she saw videos online when she was expecting. She knew what was involved. She also knew some people were against it, but she always vowed that she would have her sons circumcised, for health and hygiene reasons and to satisfy her personal preference for circumcised penises. Her past negative experiences with two uncircumcised partners had cemented her pro-circumcision view. She was adamant that Tyler was going to be circumcised. Fortunately, her female obstetrician Dr. Cowan agreed, and Tyler’s foreskin was doomed even before he was born.

The nurse removed Tyler’s diaper, leaving him completely naked as he was positioned on the circumcision board. His legs and then his arms were secured to the Circumstraint with Velcro straps, safely immobilizing him for the pending procedure. Instinctively, he strained to move his arms and legs, but there was no escaping. Sarah sat on a stool near the foot of the board, ensuring she had a clear view of her son’s penis.

Dr. Cowan entered the room and greeted Sarah. “Hi Sarah. Are you ready for this?” asked Dr. Cowan. Sarah swallowed hard, and replied, “Yes, let’s do this!”

“Great,” replied Dr. Cowan. “Are you still ok with everything we talked about?” “I am,” said Sarah, confirming what the two women had discussed the day before. Tyler was going to be circumcised with a Gomco clamp, like in the videos Sarah had seen. Dr. Cowan said she will remove all the foreskin and corresponding shaft skin, so that the glans is always exposed and there is no risk of adhesions forming during the healing process. Besides, she said, it will be healthier and better for sex later on.

Dr. Cowan grasped Tyler’s foreskin with two forceps to gently open the tip of the foreskin, pulling on the penis slightly. “See all of this skin? In a few minutes, it will be coming off!” the doctor explained.

Next, the doctor inserted the metal device into the foreskin as far as it would go. Tyler let out an ear-piercing scream, and his arms and legs desperately tried to break free. The adhesions between the foreskin and the glans were being torn apart. "They really don’t like this part. Shhh, it will be over soon little guy,“ the doctor said.

Sarah looked on, transfixed by what she saw it front of her. Here she was, watching her newborn son being circumcised. She felt that warm feeling of completeness, much like the day before. Only today, she could feel her panties getting wet.

The doctor opened and closed the forceps several times, the contours of the instrument clearly visible beneath the foreskin. “He’s got stubborn adhesions. I’ll take care of that!” the doctor explained.

Tyler was crying loudly, letting out screams each time the forceps did their intended task. His toes curled, his arms pulled against the restraining straps, and his head bobbed from side to side – the only part of his body that was permitted to move.

The foreskin was crushed lengthwise up to the rim of the glans. “This is for the dorsal slit. We need to cut open the foreskin to make room for the bell of the Gomco clamp which will be applied to the glans.” She sliced the foreskin apart and peeled the skin back, exposing the tender glans for the very first time. It was beet red, just like Sarah had seen in videos. “There you go, that’s his glans exposed now,” the doctor announced.

Sarah was mesmerized. Clearing her throat and composing herself, she muttered to the doctor: “Is the circumcision done already?” "Not at all. We were just getting him ready. The Gomco clamp still needs to be put in place before I can cut the foreskin,“ the doctor replied. “Right, of course”, Sarah blushed.

Dr. Cowan carefully inserted the bell of the Gomco device into the foreskin cavity, ensuring that the bell was of the correct size to fully encircle the glans. “The bell protects the glans from possible injury during the circumcision,” she explained to Sarah. Next, the doctor rejoined the cut foreskin with a safety pin. “Now we’re ready for the clamp,” she said.

“This is the Gomco clamp. I like it because it’s very safe and gives a good aesthetic result,” the doctor said as she held the device in front of Tyler’s mom. “I love how a circumcised penis looks and feels for me. It’s how all penises should look, not like an elephant trunk with that nasty foreskin,” added Sarah.

She positioned the clamp over the bell apparatus, and pulled the foreskin through the opening of the clamp with forceps. “Now, do you remember what we talked about the other day?”, enquired Dr. Cowan. Sarah looked puzzled. The doctor clarified: “We want to remove enough foreskin to ensure a proper circumcision. Better to remove more skin than less to get a good result.“

She pulled more and more skin through the clamp, until about half of the penile skin could be seen, the end with the safety pin still in place. The doctor then turned to Sarah. Sarah looked up, and the two women’s eyes locked in a deep gaze. For several seconds it looked like they were in a trance; they were connecting. Sarah nodded her head. Not a word was spoken, but Dr. Cowan understood. She returned her attention to Tyler’s penis. Taking the forceps again, she pulled more of Tyler’s foreskin through the clamp. The skin on the shaft was now straining and most of the skin of Tyler’s penis was now on the top side of the clamp’s opening. “That’s what you want, am I right?”, asked Dr. Cowan. Sarah’s face was flushed and she could feel the hardness of her nipples and the wetness of her panties. “Yes, it’s what I want,” she blurted out while looking down at her son’s penis in the Gomco clamp.

“Great, this looks really good. Now we’re going to tighten the nut of the clamp. This crushes the foreskin, cutting off the blood supply to it. Then I can safely remove the excess skin,” Dr. Cowan explained while Sarah strained to maintain her composure. While the videos she had watched of other babies being circumcised were interesting, nothing could have prepared her for this uniquely personal experience. She felt a deep bond with her son.

With the foreskin in position, the doctor began to tighten the nut of the Gomco clamp. She gave the nut several turns, and when the pressure started to build, she stopped and asked Sarah if she would like to do the last few turns needed to clamp her son’s foreskin. Sarah was stunned. Without a word, she reached for the clamp and turned the nut, crushing the foreskin. When the nut would no longer turn, she looked over at the doctor with a nervous smile. “Is that good?”, she asked. The doctor tried to turn the nut. “Very good,” she replied. Then, another moment of silence, as Sarah breathed deeply. The doctor broke the silence: “Empowering, isn’t it? There’s nothing quite like circumcising a baby boy.” Sarah tried to find the right words to respond: “I never thought it could be like this! This is truly amazing. If only I had known about the joy that circumcising your baby brings…” It was finally time to do the cutting.

“I leave the clamp on for a few minutes, to make sure we get a good crush and prevent the possibility of blood loss,” the doctor said. Not to mention, she thought to herself, the crushing will leave a dark ring around the penis – her trademark signature on the child’s penis for the rest of his life.

“It’s at this time I usually give the after-care instructions. It’s important that you keep his penis clean, so be sure to wipe off any stool and urine at each diaper change. For the first month or so it’s a good idea to dab some Vaseline on the glans and around the scar when you change him. The glans will be red for the first 2 days, and you might notice a few drops of blood in his diaper. After 3 or 4 days, the glans will start healing and it will turn a greenish-yellow color. This is perfectly normal and you shouldn’t be alarmed. The skin on the glans forms a scab-like crust, and this is necessary as it starts to build keratin and get tougher with time. Within 2 months his penis should be fully healed and it will look normal. The way a penis should look, circumcised.”

With that, the doctor used a scalpel to excise the protruding foreskin that was bunched at the base of the Gomco clamp. The severed foreskin now rested on the yoke of the bell, and with a pair of scissors it was detached and placed in a surgical tray for disposal with other medical waste. Tyler was now circumcised. Sarah squeezed her legs together, trying to get some relief from the built-up tension.

Dr. Cowan disassembled the clamp, and then carefully removed the bell from the glans. Tyler’s delicate glans was now fully exposed, never to be covered by skin again. What little skin was left on his penis was taut, causing his infant penis to stick straight out, though it was not erect at the time. The dark scar was plainly visible about one-quarter of the way up from the base – it was a very tight and very high circumcision. “It’s perfect…perfectly beautiful. Thank you!”, Sarah gushed. “You’re welcome, it was truly my pleasure,” replied Dr. Cowan.

But the procedure wasn’t over quite yet. “Just one last thing to do…we need to remove the frenulum.” The doctor turned to the underside of Tyler’s battered penis, pulled the frenulum out hard with tweezers, and cut it off in its entirety with scissors. She then quickly cauterized the area to stop the bleeding. Tyler screamed and curled his toes, but he soon calmed down once again.

The nurse came to apply Vaseline to the circumcision site and to put a clean diaper on Tyler. Sarah spent the day resting and soothing her baby. Later that night, she played back in her mind the unforgettable experience of circumcising her baby boy. It was all too much: She reached down between her legs and experienced the most intense, mind-blowing orgasm of her life.

When she returned home with her new baby, Sarah’s mind was already made: she wanted more children. How wonderful it would be, she thought, if she had another boy and she could share in the miracle of birth and experience the joy of circumcision with her future husband.
