sometimes writing appreciation posts about Joe Hills feels like I'm shouting out Joe for normalising doing above the bare minimum and it feels a little sad that finding someone who is committed to never going below the bare minimum is such a treat online nowadays. Like yeah let's celebrate artists who pay their staff a fair wage and look into the ethics of merch and sponsorships before committing to it. Let's celebrate artists who work to share knowledge and make artmaking accessible. Let's celebrate artists who are fierce about guarding their communities from bad actors and who speak up for trans rights and against many forms of bigotry. Let's celebrate artists who will abandon their stream the moment there's a worrying noise in the room where their child is playing. let's celebrate artists who take great effort to give credit for the work and ideas of others, who take the time to thank people for their contributions to a project, who learn about their colleagues' goals and projects. Like yeah of course that's all great, but it shouldn't be so special to get all at once. It should be the norm and it's sad that it's not
