Boring tired disclaimer: Keep in mind that this is an introductory "drawing" "tutorial" and has some generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. Which happens to be true for everything in general.

You are heavily encouraged to do your own research because this does not contain everything you should know before making a character with any type of dwarfism.

nothing on this god's green earth can convince me that peter parker doesn't have an ao3 account where he is elbows deep in a 'rise of skywalker' fix-it fic. like, fully invested in it, been writing it pre-spider bite with ned, who is just as enthusiastic about it. but the thing is, it's really hard to do updates when you are literally spider-man.

every three months he'll post and in the author's note there's some shit like "sorry this took a while, i got shot seven times :/" or "i know it's been a minute, i literally got hit by a bus and then stabbed in the leg, but i'm all good!" or sometimes ned would log in and post with a note "hey i'm a friend posting on the author's behalf, they're healing from severe hypothermia but promised an update, so here it is!"

and the fic just gets increasingly more popular for the author notes alone. a good handful of the comments are something along the lines of "i'm not even in the star wars fandom, i'm just here to see if the author is good" or "every update i cheer for another day the author gets to live at this point"

and any reader who is a native new yorker kind of pieces together that holy shit the author might be spider-man because the timeline adds up, and they just fully embrace it. spider-man will stop a robbery and the guy behind the counter will ask when the next chapter will be up. spider-man returns a stolen backpack to a girl and she'll tell him that he "really got poe's voice down so well, it's really impressive."

ned thinks it is hilarious. mj finds out about the fic from twitter, to peter's absolute horror, and changes peter's contact name to "friendly neighborhood ao3 author". but the worst thing to happen is after an avengers battle where peter took a pretty big hit and ends up in med-bay. and during a press conference, when someone asks how spider-man is healing, tony just drops "spidey won't be down for too long. the star wars fic will be updated within the week, probably."

ao3 goes down for two days.

the cute slimes in fantasy-game-styled shows and such are too mammalian in their behavior imo. many slimes are absolutely adorable for sure but behaviorally they should resemble a small amphibian or maybe a slug. you're carrying your pet slime around and showing it various parts of your inn room for the night and it's staring at everything blankly with its little dot eyes and your party's fighter who is watching you asks "does it... enjoy this?" and you say "i genuinely have no idea." you can tell it's excited for mealtime because it slimes it way over to the veggie scraps 8% faster than normal. you carry it around in a repurposed orb shaped potion bottle terrarium on your belt and you drip some well water in there occasionally to keep the humidity up. the life of a slime.

class 1-a in ua is set up a little differently, instead of it being for hero course students, it instead is a reformatory program to rehabilitate villains, vigilantees and those with dangerous or uncontrolled quirks. after revealing bakugou's treatment of him, and alerting the media to the horrible management at aldera, successfully sending bakugou to ua's reform program instead of the hero course. izuku's life then takes a turn when he's enlisted into the program as well.

literally one of my ultimate fave fics. it has excellent character interactions, easily one of my favourites when it comes to class 1-a bonding. the class are wild and chaotic, but every single plot thread is tied so neatly it's beautiful. i have reread it, no exaggeration, over two dozen times.

in a world where chisaki kai truly cares for eri as his daughter, society is forever changed because overhaul needed a proper babysitter for eri rather than having yakuza members watch her. izuku gets involved when chisaki interrupts bakugou bullying him, what starts as just a babysitting job steadily steamrolls into something else...

one of my favourite fics. like. straight up. it plays with grey morals so much that its a theme, it significantly upheaves villain society because if only the shie hassaikai was just a little bit smarter then they could have done so much. it takes a while to get to ua and thus canon events, but it never wastes time. when first reading definitely takes a lil bit to wrap your head around good chisaki, but when you do, it's so good.

The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Todoroki Rei by thatgirl_youknowtheone (series | 5 parts, 1 incomplete | 248k words)

in which todoroki touya is a mother's boy and leaves flowers for his mom, this sets about a change in the league, hero society and ua. dabi/hawks, toga/uraraka, todo/deku, fuyumi/miruko

doesn't adhere to canon timeline, and isn't clear when exactly its set but at least post endeavor agency arc. i'm not usually drawn to LoV focused fics, but this one is written so well it's hard not to be drawn in. focuses on the messed up family of the todorokis, and gives rei her own agency where she's never been able to. delves deeper into the hpsc implications with hawks, and has some of my favourite dynamics. not to mention a significant portion of chapters have memes accompanying them and they're so good.

when a fan of the mha manga wakes up as todoroki shouto at age 10, he decides to take canon into his own hands. starting with removing endeavour before the plot kicks in.

i feel like a broken record but this is one of my favourite fics, for a number of reasons but the main being that it implements some of my favourite character design concepts when we get to canon events. it has some wonderful moments, it carefuly treads the line of disrupting canon events enough to make changes but not enough that they don't happen at all. there's also a few fascinating interactions i love, and select scenes i find myself rereading for solely because they get stuck in my head.

That time I got reincarnated as a doomed side character by Gentrychild (complete | 85k words)

a fan of the manga, symbol of victory gets reincarnated as midoriya izuku, a boy written to die early on in canon for the main character (bakugou) to feel angsty over. izuku, having not actually read the manga but involved in the fandom regardless, decides to take his approximate knowledge of the plot, and makes sure that he, and the other characters he cares about, live and are happy. todo/deku

this fic is half feral and SO quotable. i find myself coming back to it so often i could likely recount the entire plot to someone without a refresher. the interactions are solid gold, the jokes make me laugh even after reading them a dozen times, and it's just... fun. it's clearly a passion project and it makes me feel comradary? like izuku himself is a part of the mha fandom and its wonderful.

after the battle trial, recovery girl notices something odd with midoriya, he may not be as quirkless as everyone believed he was. after a traumatic awakening of his repressed quirk, izuku has to deal with mastering fire breathing on top of one for all, while also trying to pass them off as a single quirk. todo/deku

i love fics where izuku has his own quirk, esprcially is ofa gets involved because then you have quirk interactions and it gets even more exciting. this fic also has one of my favourite izuku and shinsou friendships ever written. not to mention the izuku and bakugou complicated relationship. the chemistry between all characters is so genuine feeling i keep coming back to this fic despite it not being updated for over five years now. it's paused just before internships, so thankfully no cliffhangers, but i know some people are put off when there's not been an update for years.

Throw a Chair Through a Window and Call It a Day by jaded_ghoster (complete | 120k words)

when nedzu has to leave town for a week, he needs to instate a temporary principal to keep the school running. luckily he has aizawa, whose easily bribed by the opportunity to make major and permanent changes to the school while nedzu is gone. he needs an assistant and fortunately one of his students is pretty competant at both writing notes and having good ideas.

doesn't follow canon and is ambigious as to when it's set, but it's one of my favourite in terms of aizawa & izuku dynamics. they take the permission to change things in the school and run with it, setting up major changes in just five days.

Announcer AU by RogueVector (series | 3 parts, 1 incomplete | 134k words)

when izuku as a spectator gets lost during the second year sports festival, he's found by midnight and deposited in the announcers booth. there he ends up accidentally becoming a guest announcer, changing the trajectory of his life.

while it follows izuku, it explores a lot of the ua teachers interactions as they guide izuku. first part is the initial sports festival, the second is ua mentoring and the third follows canon events though it's only at the battle trial right now the rest of the series is wonderful.

after an encounter with a villain, izuku is left in a nightmare induced coma. unsure how to help him, his friends find that they can dive into izuku's memories before ua...

been a while since i read this one, but its an into the mind fic! im not entirely sure but i think 1-a on a whole are the ones to go into izuku's memories, or just his friends. not sure when it's set, but it's a fun little fic regardless.

a crossover you wouldn't expect to work but inexplicably does. rather slow to start similar to bg3, as izuku and aizawa take the place of the main character when the nautiloid ship diverts through musutafu and abducts them. not very far into the plot, but all main six companions recruited.

one of my favourite crossovers, like. ever. i have reread this fic so many times and will continue to do so for years likely. after losing his mom in a villain attack, a portal to somewhere unknown appears in front of izuku, not caring what happens, he goes through and is sent to the citadel. brought to the mass effect universe by a rogue scientist of saren, izuku remains on the normandy bonding with its crew but especially bonding with commander shepard.

How to Solve a Murder and Incite a Rebellion by Kastaborous / Fullmetal Alchemist (complete | 170k words)

when a body is found in one of afo's labs belonging to the isolated country of amestris, the heroes have to consult with the country to get to the bottom of it. as a result, fuhrer mustang sends his best, edward elric. has one of my favourite mergings of canon with a lore fitting reason as to the two series's core points not influencing each other. also ed has Opinions on hero society and modern technology.

Days of Moonlight (and) Heroes by SilverLoreley / Sailor Moon (incomplete | 220k words)

after coming back from time travelling, the world the guardians know had changed. people have superpowers they call quirks, and heroes are a profession. due to this, the sailor guardians aren't able to work as well as they could before, and usagi's mom figures out just where her daughter has been slipping away to all the time. fed up with her daughter being a vigilante, she calls her father and send usagi to live with him. luckily for her, he's just started a new job at ua.

wonderful fic where izuku and usagi become siblings. also one of my absolute favourite scenario for all might because usagi just has so much love, and all might deserves that unrestrained adoration of a child. very soft. follows mostly sailor moon manga but can get by with just the 90s anime knowledge or crystal. also has an accompanying 40k fic of silver millenium changes in universe.

Nigh (ない) by RyuuzaKochou / Miraculous Ladybug (incomplete | 101k words)

after one of the worst days of izuku's life, inko decides he needs a fresh start and they send him to life with inko's cousin, sabine. whose daughter coincidentally is also quirkless.

one of my favourite crossovers, there's a language barrier and their relationship doesn't immediately click, but izuku and marinette form a strong bond. it's very sweet and the changes to the miraculous universe is very intriguing.

Si Vis Pacem by athenoot / John Wick (incomplete | 97k words)

john wick gets reincarnated into midoriya izuku. the unstoppable force that is the baba yaga meets the crime riddled universe of mha. the villains won't know what hit them. literally.

john being raised as izuku allows him to be more caring than he was able to in his past life, he cares deeply for his mom, and if there's trouble he always steps in to help. due to this, he ends up gaining a reputation similar to his previous life's. currently post-usj but also has an absolutely fascinating friendship of izuku, bakugou and shinsou. with bakugou and shinsou's relationship being so fun. written pre-movie 4 with some references to 3 but you could read it with only the basic knowledge of the film series.

A series of standalone one shots about the quirk apprehension test. Different possible scenarios for Izuku, but always a good ending and an interesting look into Aizawa's teaching style.

Multilante by Starlight (completed - 13.6k words)

Such a good fic I've reread several times! Quirkless Izuku who still manages to get into the hero course, only to get unjustly kicked out by aizawa after the quirk apprehension test. With no school, a hero's ambition, and a lot of indestructible hoodies (courtesy of caring parents), Izuku accidentally becomes a gang of vigilantes. Yes, that sentence is correct.

How to Raise a Child Nemesis by sabertoothhousecat (completed - 148k words)

Every supervillain has a nemesis. All for One’s nemesis is a boy who, although he has all the skills required for world domination, continues to use them to be a thorn in All for One’s side.

Solution? Adopt.

It does not go as planned. Now he has a fake nephew who is still determined to take him down (outside of the house, anyway—they somehow manage to be a fully functional family when All for One isn’t doing crime). He’s read plenty of parenting books and none of them explain how to stop your kid from destroying your criminal empire.

OR: Izuku overthinks everything and intentionally gets himself kidnapped by All for One. Chaos ensues.

It's been a while since I've read this one. I'm only halfway through, but I have faith in it being excellent on just my memories of that first half alone.

Apex Predator by silverjackdaw (hiatus - incomplete - 172k words)

Izuku learned that you need to be very alert in order to net get unjustly crushed at the bottom of the social food chain. So he tries his best to find the Apex predators to not get or let others get trampled. He just hasn't noticed he became a pretty big, fortunately still good, one in the process.

Izuku has an owl quirk! As in, he's stuck as an owl for the first time after his mama told him to play hide and seek, for his own safety. Aizawa finds him and thinks he's a hurt young owl, and tries to do his best by Izuku. There is an established Erasermic relationship.

When U.A.’s hero class 1-A started to find binders on their desks, there were two notable things about them: one, that the analysis in them was creepy but insightful, dissecting their quirks, personalities, and relationships to the basics while providing helpful ways to reinforce, improve, and utilize them; two, included in the back of each notebook was a small, folded up letter with sweet compliments and gushing, more personal, comments about the people behind the quirks. Mina promptly dubbed the mysterious binder-leaver the “Love Letter Analyst.”

In another room, deep in the support labs, Izuku sneezed holding a blowtorch steady for Mei.

AfO’s Guide To A Peaceful Retirement by ScottishSunshine (series, not completed - many completed works - 503k words)

I feel like this one is probs really well known, but just in case you hadn't heard of it, I added it to the list.

All For One is a reformed man, raising Izuku as a single widowed dad. There are lots of side stories, but in the main story (part 1 and part 21 so far), Izuku and his journey in becoming a hero are the focus. The other parts are extras, not required reading to understand the main plot.

There are also some ships among the adults/pro heroes/parents, but again, not the focus of the main story.

it's the end of the world (as we know it) by cipheredsong (incomplete - 47k words)

In the spring of their third year at U.A., everything goes wrong. The world turns upside down, heroes can't decide if they're heroes anymore, and no one knows who's dead and who's soon to be so.

And Midoriya Izuku? He was long way from home when the virus hit, and he was all alone. To the rest of his world, he's dead.

But that doesn't mean he's gone.

Apocalypse au. Midoriya is on the other side of Japan when a zombie virus breaks out. After a few days, all the modern ways of communication stay down. He decides to make his way back to Musutafu, to his friends and family. I like the "humanity being there for each other" aspects of it especially. It is a TodoDeku fic tho.

There is an incomplete revamped version by the same author as well, but I haven't read that one myself (yet). I really enjoy the story and humor of this one.

Just a short, silly, wholesome fic. Izuku uses his analytical skills to work out a hypothetical that gets a little out of hand.

Zutopia by Itslivybear (completed - 66k words)

Again a possibly very well-known fic? But just in case it's not known by you, here it is. Very wholesome, fixing-the-world kind of fic thanks to Nedzu taking Izuku under his wing.

Switchblade by Cacid (completed - 333.8k words)

Midoriya Izuku went missing for a week and turned up in a back alleyway with skills he's never even heard of and no memory of how he came by them. He resigns himself to never learning the truth of what happened to him, but he shouldn't waste this chance should he? He could become a hero with reflexes like these.

A bit of a darker fic than most of the other recs. The happy ending is not without emotional pain along the way, but that also makes it more meaningful.

Secret Quest by Phoenix of Stars (completed - 38k words)

The morning of his fourth birthday Izuku woke up to a pop-up from his quirk telling him he had a quest to let no one know he had a quirk at all. When he failed the quest he reset back to when it was first given...but that wasn't his only quest.

Some of the quests he was given might have seemed strangely useless at the time (why did Eraserhead need a cat?) but always turned out to be useful later on. (If only his quirk would stop trying to mess with his social life!)

Follow along as his quirk forces him to change the future, one quest at a time.

Of Spirits and Demons by Itslivybear (completed - 125k words)

Izuku can see Yokai, Japanese spirits. He becomes friends with some of them. They, together with his mom and human friends, support him in becoming a hero. But, the yokai side of things is not without danger...

One True Enemy by Katydid (completed - 7.5k words)

Izuku Midoriya had a sizeable following online. Not as a hero, but as a conspiracy debunker. He built his following using facts and his obscene amount of free time as a kid without friends.

Shouto Todoroki wondered if this is what it felt like to have a mortal enemy. He wanted to prove the mysterious debunker wrong. He wanted a conspiracy to be right and his rival to swallow his words.

A split focus between Izuku and Shouto, but not a ship. A fun crackfic.

Accidental Human Acquisition by Cittsah (incomplete - 33k words)

A space au in which Izuku gets abducted, placed in a cell with the alien equivalents of Aizawa, Eri and Bakugo, and raises hell for his captors. Both the accidental and complicit ones. No quirks and the only ships are spaceships.

Bend Before You Break by orkestrations (Harry Potter - incomplete - 59.4k words)

An important disclaimer the author and I agree on: screw JKR and don't give her a dime.

When Izuku set out for his morning run, the last thing he was expecting was to be plucked from his own world by magic and thrown into another universe entirely.

Removed from his own conflict and with no way back, he sets himself to figuring out this world and its own incipient war while searching for a way to possibly reverse the spell that brought him here.

It's just his luck that the year he arrives is the same year the government decides it's a great idea to bring back the potentially-deadly tournament.
