This is the most important line in the movie. I'm 100% serious. It tells you everything you need to know about Lex Luthor's character. It shows the audience that, despite being almost omnicognizant from the get-go, Luthor clearly has no fucking idea who Superman is, only what he does.

I've never seen anyone go from All-Knowing Evil to Absolute Fucking Loser so fast. In fifteen words he went from unstoppable criminal powerhouse to flailing manchild moron. He gave his Evil Dictator demonstration and then turned around, dropped his pants and showed his entire ass. He proclaimed his manifesto of unrelenting ego, turned around, slipped on a banana peel and landed on a whoopie cushion.

And he was so mired in his own sense of superiority that he never even knew it.

Lex Luthor, folks. Ten out of ten, no notes.

The story of Turin is just the tale of a buch elves who, despite all evidence that it might be a bad idea, try to adopt one disaster human.

Túrin son of Húrin exists in a weird place for historians where no one is quite sure if his curse really was pulling people inexorably into his wake or if he was just really sexy. Almost everyone who dealt with him died! Sometimes I remember that Tolkien used one of my most hated tropes by making Túrin and Tuor pass by each other and never meet, and want to punch something.

But then I think that if they had met, the history of Middle-Earth would be very different because something terrible would surely happen to Tuor. Like, a piano would fall from the sky, startle Túrin and he would accidentally stab his cousin in the throat.

in the past the oscars only accept diverse stories when they are written by a white male (the fact it is written by a white male is quite obvious from the minorities perspective). i have had enough. in the words of that wretch on twitter. this is “the breeding ground of mediocrity.”

great cinema will only be found when we give a voice to the people that haven’t been able to express their story yet. 

to the ignorant fucks on twitter, i have a question:

how are women meant to make more “good” movies when less than a hand full are given the budget to do so?

let’s stop giving ALL the big budgets to straight, white, heterosexual men and start giving some to the stories that haven’t been told… 

also, get you head out of your ass. THIS IS NOT ASKING FOR A DIVERSITY QUOATA. THIS IS ABOUT GETTING THE BEST FILMS RECOGNISED. The problem is not that there were no women in the best directors category, but that films directed by women at the same standard (or better) than the films nominated were not recognised. according to a report from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, women made up 10.6% of the directors of the top 100 grossing movies from 2019. that number is up from 4.5% the year before, and the highest since the institute began tracking the data in 2007. his year’s Oscars SHOULD have been similarly historic.

in 2020 i want to see stories from people of colour, i want to see stories from LQBT+ people, i want to see stories from women. and i want them to get the recognition they deserve.

so my daughter is 4 years old and she watched Joker, but I put her to bed before his first murder. next morning she’s brushing her teeth and suddenly says “momma, look! I’m joker!” and she sticks her fingers in her mouth and does this:

I mean this nicely but why the hell would you let a four year old child that film, Jesus as a six year old the worst nightmare I ever had was caused by Fellowship of the Ring. I can’t imagine how a film like Joker would’ve impacted me!

name ONE (1) movie that came anywhere near Joker in terms of cultural impact in 2019. That generated the clout and think pieces and analyses and memes and audiences personally affected by its content. 

You’re lying to yourself if you think any other movie can TOUCH joker purely in terms of the way it shook the world. I PROMSE you, it is okay to support women/minorities and want them to win more, and still recognise the quality of Joker as a movie and the resonance it generated. 

Joker earned every single one of those eleven nominations and y’all hoes can die mad.
