Jude grinned softly and nodded, “Of course. I only speak the truth.You’re very beautiful.” He glanced over his menu once Ellie broke eye contact, his heart swelling when their eyes were locked. He inhaled, in attempts of calming down. He felt a bit nervous since this was now their official first date, and he wanted it to go perfectly.

Jude noticed when a waitress came to the table after the lady was close enough, looking up with a smile. It was tougher to read her lips since he was seated and she was standing, but he had been out to eat enough to figure she was taking drink orders first. He allowed Ellie to speak first and order her own before he would point to iced tea on the menu. He gave a nod once the woman pointed to the same spot on the menu to confirm. Once she walked away, Jude looked back to Ellie. “So, tell me about you. I want to know about how you grew up, your interests, all of it.”

Listening to him caused the blush on Ellie’s cheeks to rise again. She quickly looked down to try and hide it by looking at her menu. Ellie cleared her throat a little before looking up as the waitress came over. She ordered herself a water before looking back to the menu. She hummed a little in thought of what she should get before she closed the menu, deciding on the chicken alfredo.

“It’s really nothing interesting.” Ellie responded to him. “I mean, i grew up with Ollie so of course it was interesting. He makes everything intersting. But for me personally?” She trailed off with a shrug. “There’s not much to talk about.”

Jude turned his head and started to drive once Ellie gave him the okay. He didn’t go as fast as he normally would, since he was more cautious when he had someone else riding with him. He was still able to make it over to Little Italy in record time, parking near the restaurant he had gotten them reservations for. He removed his helmet and stepped off the bike, pushing the kickstand down. He quickly got off so he could help Ellie, taking the helmet from her.

“How was it?” Jude asked with a slight smirk. “I didn’t go too fast did I?” He reached to take Ellie’s hand to lead them into Paesano, which was one of the nicer restaurants on the strip. He held the door open for Ellie, then approached the host’s stand to give his name. When they got to the table, Jude pulled Ellie’s chair out for her and then sat across from her. He looked to her and smiled brightly. “You look beautiful in this light,” he told, looking at all of the fairy lights overhead and how they shined around his date. He positioned his hands in front of his face like he was looking through a frame of a picture, nodding in satisfaction. “Perfection.”

Ellie held onto the other as he drove. She smiled to herself as they made their way down the street. One there, Ellie got off and took the helmet off. She fixed her hair a little, smiling at the other and took his hand. “No, you drove just fine.” She told him as they made their way inside.

Ellie followed them back to their table, looking around as they went. Ellie smiled and thanked Jude as he pulled her chair out. She sat down and blushed looking up to Jude hearing him. She looked down again seeing him holding his hands out as a frame for her. “Oh my gosh... Thank you.” She said, shaking her head a little. Ellie bit down on her bottom lip, keeping her eyes on him for a moment before looking down to the menu.

Jude couldn’t help but laugh softly, covering his mouth. He was a bit self conscious about his laugh ever since his Mom once described it to him as being squeaky sounding, unsure if that was really a good thing or not. “That’s good, but nod your head when you sign that” he told Ellie. “Do you know the sign for no?” He asked, waiting before he signed it while he shook his head. “Always be aware of your face, you need to exaggerate more than you usually do. We don’t get those tones in the voice so we rely on facial expressions to see what everyone is feeling.”

Jude put his helmet on too and looked to Ellie. “I’m a good driver, promise,” he told. “If you need me to stop when I’m driving, just squeeze me a couple of times. That’s how I know to stop.” He walked over to get on the bike, waiting until he felt Ellie sit behind him and wrap her arms around him. He turned his head back so he could see her. “Ready?” he asked.

“right...” She said, nodding her head again. She had to remember to be more like Ollie when signing instead of like herself. Growing up with them, it wouldn’t be too hard to act like her brother. Ellie walked with the other and smiled at him. “I trust you.” She said, sitting on the bike behind him. She held on tight around his waist and nodded hearing him ask if she was ready.

Jude watched as Ellie went to go put the flowers inside, waiting in the doorway in case she didn’t want him inside her home. He nodded, signing and saying “You’re welcome” followed by “Thank you”. He smirked, “Those are 2 basic signs right there. He can definitely teach you, and I can show you some too, of course. It helps to learn in a conversational setting because your brain will just pick up signs the more it sees them.”

Jude let the girl lock the door before he reached to take her hand to hold as they headed down to the parking lot. He showed her a few signs in the elevator on their way down, such as elevator, apartment, New York, date, and dinner. Once they were out, Jude walked over to his bike and grabbed both helmets off the handlebars. He handed the extra one to Ellie. “Safety first,” he said with a wink.

Ellie watched him sign as he spoke and repeated after him. “I know the sign for yes..” she said, doing the sign for that. Ellie walked with him down the hall, holding onto his has as she did so. She nodded along to him, knowing that she would learn faster if it was natural and in conversation.

Ellie watched him in the elevator, smiling as he showed her the different signs for things. She followed him to his bike and took the helmet, still a little nervous about riding the motorcycle with him, but she trusted Jude. “Thank you.” She signed to him with a smile since she was using one of the new signs he just taught her. Ellie put the helmet on and adjusted it a little so it was snug on her.

Jude glanced around the hall where he waited, picking his head up when he saw the door open. “Hi,” he replied back with a grin. He moved forward to give her a hug before stepping back and handing her the flowers. “Here, for you. You look beautiful. But, I’m not surprised.” His smile widened as he looked at her, excited for the evening ahead. “Ready?” He asked, verbally as he signed it as well. He didn’t believe in simultaneous communication for hearing people to use with the Deaf, but he caught himself still signing a little even when he needed to speak because it was what was natural to him. It made him feel more comfortable when he signed, so it made him feel better about talking and trying to articulate his thoughts in English.

Ellie hugged him back before gasping at the flowers. “Jude. They’re beautiful.” She said, giving him a smile. Ellie smelled them before bringing them inside. She sat them on the kitchen counter and placed a wetted paper towel over the ends knowing that would be okay until she got back later that night. “Thank you.” She told him in regards to the flowers as well as her appearance. “you look very handsome.” She told him before nodding her head. “I still need Ollie to teach me basic sign.” Ellie laughed before locking the door behind her.
