Hickman’s discussions of systems can always get me really fired up, and I conceive of him as primarily a cerebral writer whose strengths lie in how he structures his stories and the great ideas. But then he’ll go along and remind me that the emotional core of his stories resonate for me in a way that few others do.

Were I to commit myself to something, and really fight for it, not just work for it as a day job as I currently do, I imagine it would be a system or grand idea, like liberal democracy. But that doesn’t mean it’s what’s most important. I might fight for an ideal, but I’d sacrifice everything for my family.

When asked what I’m thinking about, I typically try to avoid replying, “Thinking about how the discussion of family in Fantastic Four and Avengers is creating in me an existential crisis.” Tumblr’s at least providing me a place to lay out and refer to my thoughts when I do actually give people that answer.
