i love bg3 a lot, but its body diversity being a) athletic or b) tall athletic is super disappointing. to me, having so many ways to customize your character from the amount of hair greying to genitalia, but then also having just 2 body types is a weird choice designwise

thank god i can draw and use that skill to reimagine the world in a way i want but like, still

this isn't just a bg3 problem but a larger scale issue of course, but it happened to be the game to really open my eyes to it. i think it's sad that i can't seem to find a character that looks like me or my friends, especially in a roleplaying game. it's unrealistic to not have plus sized people in an otherwise diverse world, be it fantasy or not.

They already have clipping issues with the two that they have, now imagine having to retrofit another 3k+ animations per additional body type, as well as model + rig work. For an in-house anim department thats simply not feasible unless someone would devote the resources to it. This isnt just "a corner to cut" amount of work."

yes, adding all that requires a lot of resources and work and it isn't easy. prioritization has cut diversity in body types. studios use the amount of work and focusing on something else in the gameplay as an justification all the time but it doesn't change the fact that plus sized people are completely left out and (maybe) only exist as a rare villain which makes things look even worse. (thisobald thorm, balthazar)

the point is that this tells about the values of the production — including large bodies just isn't important enough to them. putting in the effort and work is not worth it, this can be ignored. and the production gets away with it and this criticism is sweeped under the rug. it sucks!
