Back to reality

More than a week ago I came back from London and I must say I’m missing it a lot.

It’s weird to be back in school and to sit behind my desk. I wish I could go back to London and start to work again at Middlesex. It was great

But I’m also happy to be back with my family and friends. The vacation after the internship was lovely. 

If I ever get another oppurtunity to go to London, I won’t hesitate.

One last time

Friday  was my last day at Middlesex University. It was such a pleasure to work with my team. We had so much fun during these three weeks.

To celebrate our last day, we had lunch with  Daniel, Gypsy, Mr. Geerts, Ms. Elsemans, Ms. Van De Meutter, and all our mentors.

I had brought some sweets today to thank my team for the great opportunity they gave me, and also because it was my birthday, yay.

I can’t believe it is already over. Everything went so fast.  I’m going to miss this place, and the city of London so much! 

London, this is not an adieu, but au revoir!

Today is the big day. I need to present my project, about commuter students, which I worked on the past 2,5 weeks. I must say that I`m a little bit nervous, but it`s only for my team so it’s going to be fine.

During the rest of the week I had various tasks. I had to write an essay and circulate it to my team: I had to say what I learned and how I found my internship.

Sunday is funday

Hi everyone

In the enthusiasm about my work, I forgot to tell you what I did on Sunday. Shame on you, Ibe.

Sunday Max and I slept till 12AM. We were very tired of the picnic. But when we woke up we decided that it was time for action on our last free day. We went to Tate Modern. An awesome museum near to St. Pauls Cathedral. While I was enjoying the art in the museum I spotted my colleague Victoria. It’s such a small world… Or maybe it was just meant to be?

After a little chat with Victoria we went back via the Millennium Bridge, a bridge which may be known from the Harry Potter movies. I felt like a real wizard while I was walking on the bridge. I tried some spells, but unfortunately they didn’t worked out.

Back in the centre Max, Kian and Daniel decided to go back to the apartment because they had some school tasks to do. I stayed in the city, to have some me-time.

I went to St. Pancras, the Sky Garden (city view from the 35th floor), Theresa May’s house and last but not least: Five Guys.

I knocked on Theresa’s door, but she wasn’t home. After my lonely adventure I went back to the apartment and watched a Harry Potter movie.

These days

Unfortunately the last week has begun. I can’t believe that I will be sitting at school again in two weeks. Today was a productive day. My mentor, Mary, came back from vacation and we had a catch-up about last week and talked about tasks for this week. I have to say that I’m looking forward to the tasks she gave me. They sound really fun.

Last Friday I said goodbye to my lovely colleague Ludi. She left to go on vacation. I have to admit that I’m going to miss her. She was so funny and was always ready for a question or just a nice chat.

It makes me sad to realise that this incredible journey is almost over. It has been great. Not only my job, also the city and the life on the apartment.

But I’m also looking forward to be back with my family and friends and to hear all the stories of my classmates.

The need to leave is giving me a mixed feeling. Luckily I have one more week to go!

eat,sleep, London, repeat

Yesterday the weather was lovely so Max and I decided to go to the park and have a picnic. We went to the famous Kensington Gardens. 

I thought we we’re going to be the only people, but the park was very bissy.

We saw people lunching, footballing, walking their dog...

After our great picnic, including tankstationboterhammen, we decided to go for a walk through the park. After our lazy day we went to the local supermarket and  bought everything to make spaghetti.

I never had better spaghetti! Thank u, Max!

Halfweg

We zijn al verder dan halfweg. Ik had stiekem gehoopt dat er nooit een einde zou komen aan deze geweldige ervaring. Al zijn de werkdagen soms wel zwaar, toch amuseer ik me te pletter.

Ook thuis is het leuk. Soms zitten we gezellig in de woonkamer, de andere keer verkennen we het centrum. Ik hoop dat de laatste week even leuk wordt als de vorige twee weken!

Gisteren ben ik een kijkje gaan nemen in de 02 arena. Hier waren de Brit awards bezig, hét evenement van Groot-Britannië. Al heb ik geen bekende gezichten gezien, de sfeer was geweldig!

Second week

After more than a week in Middlesex, I’m feeling really like a part of the team. Everyone is very kind and they involve me as much as they can. Today I had to work on my main task about commuter students. They said it looked very good. Yay

I also had 4 meetings and a brainstorm today. I wish I could stay forever in Middlesex

Vrije dagen

Gelukkig hebben we tijdens het weekend vrij en hebben we dan al eens tijd om ons samen te amuseren. De jongens zijn naar Pizza Union gaan eten en de meisjes bij Steakhouse. Daarna hebben we ons geamuseerd op ons appartement.

Vandaag zijn Max en Ik de stad wat gaan verkennen. We zijn rond de middag vertrokken naar Camden Town en hebben daar een superleuke foodmarkt bezocht. Na een paar uurtjes rond te lopen in Camden zijn we richting Hyde Park gegaan en hebben we wat eekhoorns en zwanen gevoerd. Je mag je soms nog wel eens kind voelen.

‘s Avonds hebben we nog een lekker broodje gehaald bij mijn favoriete broodjesbar, Prêt à manger, en hebben we nog rustig tv gekeken op appartement.

Ik voel dat we nog veeeeeel leuke tijden gaan hebben hier in Londen.

Work, work, work

Hi everyone

My first week at Middlesex University is almost over, but I have to say that I already had a lovely time. My colleagues are nice and really helpful.

I couldn’t have a better team!

The tasks that I have to do are also really interesting and fun. It’s really nice that there is also some time for a little chat with the colleagues during our work. We can talk about anything!

I hope the rest of the internship will be as much fun as I already had!

First day

Today was my first day at Middlesex. I met my mentors Mary and David for the first time and they we’re both amazing. Mary guided me through the marketing and student engagement department at the end we got a tour around the whole university area. Tomorrow the ‘real’ work starts. I’ll keep you updated about my work.

Middlesex University

During my internship I’m going to work at Middlesex University. Middlesex has universities all around the world, for example in Malta and Dubai.  I’m really looking forword to work in a University. I’m working at the Student Engagement and Communication department. There are almost 1900 people working in the university. I’m so happy I can be a part of this wonderful place.

I hope the internship is going to be great!

3de keer, goede keer!

Voor de 3de keer heb ik de eer om naar het prachtige Londen te trekken, al is het deze keer niet als toerist maar om me helemaal in het werkleven te mengen. Gelukkig hebben we in het weekend vrije tijd en kan ik nog meer van het prachtige Londen ontdekken! Nog maar een dikke week en ik stap uit de Eurostar en kom terecht in deze bruisende stad!

Leisure time

Hoewel we door de week moeten werken hebben we in het weekend wel wat tijd om het prachtige London te ontdekken. Ik wil niet enkel de ‘typische’ dingen bezoeken. Daarom heb ik al een paar minder populaire dingen opgezocht die zeker de moeite waard zijn om te bezoeken.

1. Eekhoorns in Hyde Park In één van de grootste parken van London, Hyde Park, lopen vele tamme eekhoorns rond. Als je nootjes of anders lekkers bij je hebt zullen ze je zeker een bezoekje brengen.

2. Little Venice Misschien wel het mooiste ‘spot’ van London, maar heeeel onbekend. De schattige bootjes op het smalle riviertjes doen je wegdromen naar het prachtige Venetie. Zeker een bezoekje waard! 

3. Millennium Bridge

Voor de Harry Potter-fans zal dit zeker een bekend zicht zijn. De brug die wordt aangevallen door de dementors in Harry Potter en de halfbloed prins. Je kan natuurlijk ook naar de, veel te dure, Harry Potter studios een eindje van London gaan. Maar in de stad zelf zijn ook genoeg locaties te vinden die een rol spelen in de film.

4  Downing street 10 (lookalike)  Als May een persconferentie geeft, is er een grote kans dat deze voor haar voordeur plaatsvindt. Sinds het dreigingsniveau is opgetrokken is het huis van de premier jammer genoeg afgesloten voor touristen. Al is er wel een andere voordeur waarbij je het verschil tussen de originele deur en dee lookalike niet zien. Kan jij raden welke de originele is?

My expectations

During my internship I really want to improve my English. I know how important it is in the business world to speak English. I also want to take the time to get to know the city better. I’ve been in London a few times but I only saw the typical tourist places. Now I wan’t to see all the hidden spots.

London is calling...

Nog één maand en ik trek de voordeur voor drie weken achter me dicht.  Ik ben helemaal klaar voor deze unieke belevenis in London. De hele periode zal ik het beste van mezelf laten zien bij ‘Middlesex University’. Ik ben benieuwd hoe het zal lopen. Ik ben er alvast helemaar klaar voor.
