Great Leap Forward
Mao was the main reason why the Great Leap Forward failed since he the one making all of the plans for the great leap forward: "Mao would not accept that his policies were at fault." Because he would not recognize his failure and he was blinded by his confidence, the great leap forward was instead a great leap backward. Mao's program crippled China's economy and he is the only one to blame for this since he makes all the calls. There is an old saying called "There are no bad soldiers, there are only bad generals." The quote explains why Mao is the only to be blamed.

Mao’s ineptness as an economic planner meant that he did not know what the country needed. As Michael Lynch said, “Mao would not accept that his policies were at fault.” Mao copied Soviet programs without paying attention to whether or not they would work for the PRC’s current condition. Nikita Khrushchev himself criticized Mao’s radical plans to boost Chinese heavy industry. The Great Leap Forward (GLF) completely ignored the needs of the peasants and the fact that many of the peasants’ revolutionary attitudes had worn off. The GLF also failed because many officials were afraid to report the dire conditions in many provinces because none dared to challenge Mao’s plans. Therefore, the GLF failed mostly because Mao mismanaged the country’s resources and underestimated its capabilities.

In the beginning, Mao was “inviting criticisms” as to both hear more opinions and...
“The Hundred Flowers campaign was a trick designed by Mao to trap his opponents.”
I totally agree with this statement, 100% no doubt. Jung Chang and John Halliday state that “[Mao] was inviting people to speak out so the he could then use what they said as an excuse to victimize them.” Why...
