this is a good benchmark for where i was a couple months ago. andrew loomis’ creative illustration has since opened my eyes to all the things i thought i understood but really didn’t. it’s humbling but also extremely frustrating. luckily, i’ve gotten pretty used to dealing with these types of “failures” so i’m gonna double down instead of running scared. watch this space!

i was cleaning out my drives today when i came across this sketch from 2012. it’s hard to believe i ever thought that actually looked good -____- anyway, figured it’d be fun to do a paint-over to see how far i’d come.

i reaaaaaally went off the deep end on this one. for some demented reason (to see if i could pull it off i guess lulz?), i decided to be a g and paint the entire thing without any liquify, smudging or blurring. just different brush types and pressure to simulate the natural appearance of things as much as possible.
