I posted this home several years ago, but it’s one of my favorites, so I’m posting it again, in case it was in my 1st blog that I stupidly, accidentally, deleted. It was an abandoned gentleman’s club on the waterfront in Selma, Alabama.
David bought the 20,000 sq. ft. building for $100,000. It was built in 1909 and had no plumbing or electricity. Yikes!
Doing all the work himself, it took him 2 yrs., and another $150,000 to get it up to code. He rented the 1st fl. to an Italian restaurant, and also rents part the 2nd fl. to a friend, b/c it’s so large.
Look at the living quarters- David experimented with polyurethane to keep the flaky paint as it was.
David calls his decorating style, neo-Gilded Age Steampunk.
This place is simply crazy-cool. It really looks like an old Men’s Club, doesn’t it?
The stove must be original, b/c there were no utilities, so they must’ve heated it w/wood.
David went to auctions for a lot of the antiques. It looks like he sprayed this fan collection black. Very cool.
The old communal shower was the only room kept w/o any remodeling- I wonder how this worked when there was no plumbing. The only addition David made was the Crucifix.
On the 3rd floor is the ballroom where David hosts movie nights and a yearly Beaux-Arts Ball. What a place.
