Back Again: A Personal Update on My Spanish Journey
Hey everyone, I’m back after a bit of an absence. Life has been quite a ride lately, and I’ve been offline more than usual. I recently found out that my mother has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung and adrenal cancer, and she doesn’t have much time left with us. I’ve been prioritizing spending as much time with her as possible, ensuring her last few months are filled with meaning and love.
Despite everything, I’ve continued to be active on my Spanish learning journey. I’ve shifted to conversation-only classes on Italki, and I’m feeling really confident when speaking Spanish. Sure, I still make mistakes and sometimes struggle to remember certain words, but that’s perfectly normal and part of the process. My teacher is incredibly motivating and encouraging, constantly reminding me that the more I speak, the better and more natural I’ll become. Although I haven’t taken a test recently, I feel closer to a B2 level than B1, and my progress is coming along rapidly. Everything is slowly falling into place.
Let’s talk about some struggles and what I’m doing to overcome them. Listening to spoken Spanish has always been a challenge for me, but I’m gradually improving. I’ve set a goal to listen to at least 30 minutes of spoken Spanish every day, varying the dialects, speeds, and levels. I absolutely love the YouTube channel Dreaming Spanish; it’s been a perfect fit for me and has helped me a lot in understanding spoken Spanish. I’m still working on using words like le, lo, and lacorrectly or remembering to use them when needed, but I’m confident that speaking more will help me improve.
Looking ahead, I plan to keep practicing and maintain the motivation I’ve had lately. My dream of becoming fluent in Spanish has been with me for as long as I can remember, and I’m committed to making it a reality. I’m also starting to consider learning other languages in the future. My Spanish journey has given me so much confidence and inspiration to continue learning.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read my blogs. Sometimes I wonder if my posts go unnoticed, but that’s okay. It helps me to share my thoughts and keep track of my progress. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please reach out—I welcome all input. Even if I only inspire one person, that makes it all worthwhile.
Thank you again, and I look forward to updating you all soon and bringing you along on this journey with me.
