FIELD TRIP TO THE WALLIS ANNENBURG CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS
Frederick Douglass Middle School students were treated to a special matinee performance Friday, January 30 with internationally acclaimed pianist Rueibin Chen and a traditional Chinese instrumental ensemble. This was all possible due to the generosity of the newly appointed Director of Education, Mark Slavkin.
Rueibin Chen played a couple of solo pieces that were dynamic in their scope and sound. Soon thereafter, he was joined on stage by L' Ensemble Du Ciel, an ensemble of four instrumentalist who play the erhu, the gaohu, the dizi, and the pipa, which are traditional Chinese instruments, two of which are over 2,000 years old!
After the program, the hosts of the trip invited our students to stay in the area and have lunch in Beverly Gardens Park across the street.
From Mr. Pooh Mayo-ICEF Music Teacher: The students and I are unanimous in our evaluation of the overall experience: "Totally Awesome!"

View Park Preparatory Elementary visit LACMA's Family Sunday Program
On Sunday, January 25, View Park Preparatory Elementary students took a trip to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) as part of their Andell Family Sunday program. Together with their families and visual art teacher, the kids explored the museum, toured galleries, watched a special performance, and made art inspired by the exhibition "Samurai: Japanese Armor". This intergenerational visit gave families exposure to the many opportunities offered by LACMA, such as free youth memberships, and allowed View Park students to experience art outside the classroom.

Look for our ICEF girls in black and green tutu's, they were amazing!
