Get to know her...

Elsa Arendelle came from a family that were considered royalty on the West Coast of the U.S. Her parents were wealthy bankers who traveled often, leaving Elsa and her younger sister Anna under the care of nannies at times. At a young age she suffered depression due to her parents’ absence which, at times, made her to be difficult with the nannies when she wouldn’t eat or want to go anywhere. Anna, however, did her best to make her big sister smile. They would go out on bike rides every Saturday as tradition in order to get Elsa out of her room for a while.

Until one Saturday afternoon as the two girls rode their bikes, they got into an argument over Anna’s crush on Hans Westergard. As Elsa got angrier with Anna, she unknowingly unleashed an ice storm and soon Anna’s tired lost control at the next turn and she slid into a lake. Elsa was quick to drop her bike and plunge into the freezing water to save her sister, but ever since then she’s blamed herself; she was a monster and didn’t know what was happening to her but she decided to keep that a secret. A few weeks after her sister’s recovery from nearly dying of hypothermia, her parents died in a plane crash on their way back home and although the two Arendelle sisters had vowed to stick together, Elsa, grief-stricken, broke that vow.

Welcome to the island...

One of Elsa’s nannies knew of her power, the power of winter. She informed the young heiress that her parents wanted to wait and tell her on her 18th birthday, but her powers must have developed prematurely due to her depression. However, the nanny helped walk through everything with the young girl and knitted her a pair of gloves. She then told the girl “Conceal, don’t feel” and that is exactly what Elsa did. Once she was finally of age to graduate high school and go about life on her own, she packed up her things and moved to the most remote place she could find, ending up in Costa Serena.

Stay a while...

Elsa isn’t exactly “settled in”, although she’s been living on the island for quite some time now, but she doubts she’ll ever truly feel as home anywhere other than where she was raised alongside her sister, but going back simply isn’t an option for her. After graduating college she started up her own interior design business, Chilling Designs by Elsa, and although it takes an awful lot of social interaction with her clients, she gets through it because she knows that once she’s alone she’s able to completely pour herself into her work and promise perfect results each time. Elsa is still working on controlling her powers, but because of her lack of confidence it’s not unusual to see her wearing her thick gloves even in the dead of summer, simply because she doesn’t want to cause anymore accidents like the one that nearly killed her sister. She’s hoping that Costa Serena is the fresh start that she needs and that soon she’ll be able to face her sister again and finally apologize for her mistake.

Connections:

Anna Arendelle (Younger Sister): Anna is not only just her sister but her best friend. She’s very protective of her and will go at all odds to make sure her little sister is happy.

Hans Westergard (Childhood Acquaintance/Dislike): Though their families have been friends for a very long time, Elsa never really got along with the youngest and more malicious brother of the 13 Westergard boys, especially around Anna.

“It’s still a better plan than me deliberating over everything there is to do for two hours before finally deciding on something.” Elsa giggled, knowing that one of the reasons she had yet to venture out into the streets of Barcelona was because she found it so overwhelming and would have never been able to choose what to immerse herself in first. She smiled at him and nodded. “All mine.” Reaching up, she placed a kiss on his lips before taking his elbow. “In that case, I’m more than ready.”

“That is very true I saved us two hours. Although I’m sure you would have finally come up with something sooner or later.” He teased slightly. Honestly if he hadn’t been dragged out the couple times by his friends he wouldn’t have gotten out either. Max felt his cheeks warm up but her unexpected kiss, “One hundred percent all yours.” He started walking towards the first destination. “How are you enjoying Barcelona so far.”

“You know me well.” She light nudged him with her elbow with a smile. Once again she was filled with the strange feeling that she could truly open up around Max, let all of the walls she’d built around herself over the years come tumbling down. While at first it had been the scariest thing she’s encountered in a long while, it was now welcomed. “Is that really a question? I don’t think anyone could really have anything negative to say about being here, could they? It’s beautiful and the food is wonderful. I can’t help but notice that most are sticking to the bars, though. It’s a shame - there’s so much more to see.” Elsa giggled. “And yourself?”

“It is. It’s helped me through a lot of difficult times… and sometimes, when I was younger, it was only through writing that I was truly able to get everything out without judgement.” Elsa scribbled down a few sentences before sighing and looking back out at the water. “I’m guessing you’re an avid swimmer? Surfer?”

She laughed a bit. “I used to be, actually, when my sisters and I were a lot younger, but…not so much anymore.” Andrina kept her eyes on the waves, appreciating how familiar it felt. “The beach always makes me miss it, though. What about you? Even been surfing?”

“That sounds lovely.” Elsa didn’t didn’t pry for details about why their family fun had stopped - she knew enough about complicated sisterly relationships and how they changed over the years. “Oh, no! In fact, I hardly ever make it a habit to come to the beach. I just figured it’d be a nice place to relax for a little while.”

You know narrowing down the prospects.” Maximus shook his head before laughing a bit, “I mean I almost wish it was a two person trip like Paris was. I survived the incident didn’t I? Standing here, safe and sound. All yours.” He smiled offering his elbow for her to take. “I know I don’t have to but it’s already planned and set in stone.” He smiled, “But for now we shall venture on a new adventure.”

“Have at it,” she said with a small wave of her hand. If Andrina was being completely honest, she was glad that someone else was joining her. If Elsa was sitting with her, other people wouldn’t bother her or try to lecture her. It was a win-win situation. “Those must be some pretty important thoughts if they have to be written down immediately.”

Elsa smiled and took a seat next to Andrina before flipping open her journal to the next blank page. “Well, I suppose to anyone who read through this thing they wouldn’t be too impressed, but it’s fun to go through journals from years ago and reading all of the random thoughts that were going through my head at that time.” She looked out at the water and sighed. “I just want to remember how beautiful this place is. Pictures are going to do it a lot of justice, but I feel like words are just as great.”

Max waited until Elsa stepped away before breathing out a breath of relief. He still got nervous around her, that was for sure. It also let him know that this was true and a genuine feeling. “I have a couple adventures, you get to pick which one first.” He chuckled shaking his head, “I haven’t done much, Archie and I tried a coffee place a student said was good. Lucian and I walked around some of the parks, and Meg almost killed us convincing me a tandem bike was a great way to get around…” He shuttered a bit before smiling. “So there is a magic fountain, Ciudadela park which is full of greenery, or Coffee in the gothic quarter to start. I have something planned after that that I’m going to keep a surprise and then wherever you’d like to have dinner.”

"You already have everything planned out? That’s good - we all know that I’m not the best at making decisions.” Elsa raised a brow as she listened to everything that he’d done since arriving. “First: it sounds like a lot has happened since we landed. Second: while I’m not surprised about the incident with Meg I’m glad I wasn’t there to experience that.” She laughed. “Hmm... maybe we could start with the magic fountain? That sounds like a lot of fun! Then grab some coffee and walk through the park?” She smiled up at him. “Surprise? You don’t have to do that.”

“Okay so you’d waste time on coffee but not on a nice artisanal beer?” Louie teased her with a sad gasp. “What about this: a nice, typical café cortado, then the Museu d'Historia de Catalunya and walking around the city for a while. And then a nice bar.” He said, trying to compromise. “You’re very efficient, huh?” 

"It’s not a waste of time it’s... a holy ritual. We are nothing without caffeine.” Elsa listened to his plans and nodded. “See? That sounds like a great plan! Definitely better than just sitting around drinking all day. I’m proud of you. Now, let’s get started. As you said, I’m efficient.”

It was still fairly cold in Spain, but Andrina always seemed to find herself at the beach if they ever traveled anywhere near a coast. After stealing a towel from the hotel, that and a book were all she needed, so it wasn’t long until she was lounging on the sand flipping through the book. She’d been there maybe a few minutes when she saw someone walk up to her. “If you’re about to tell me that I should get my head out of my book, I will quickly remind you that I’m enjoying the beach, aren’t I?”

As much as Elsa enjoyed touring this new destination with her friends, she still very much appreciated the moments whenever the crowd drifted away and she was allowed to soak everything in by herself. After deciding that she wasn’t going to waste any more time than necessary locked away in her room, she grabbed her journal and headed out to the beach where she came across a familiar blonde. Approaching her, she smiled and held up the journal in her hand. “Actually, I was just going to ask if I could join. I need to get some thoughts down before they’re gone forever.”

“I’m not spending the entirety of this trip bar hopping, let’s go find something interesting like a museum where we can learn about Barcelona’s history and culture... or a nice coffee shop.” Elsa shrugged, looping her arm through Louie’s with a smile. "Once again we are supplied with a once-in-a-lifetime trip and I’m not going to waste one minute of it.”

Max stood outside her door, questioning if he was going to do this correctly. He stopped questioning himself and knocked on the door. When he saw her beautiful face all questions left his head. “Hello, so how do you feel about a spontaneous trip to a museum or something anything really.” He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. “Sorry I just thought I’d want to spend as much time with you as possible.”

Elsa was hesitant to respond to the unexpected knock at her door and peeked out through a crack, but seeing Max’s familiar face she smiled and swung the door wide open. “Max! I’m always going to say yes to spontaneous adventures with you. One moment, please.” She held up a finger to signal for him to stay where he was before dashing back into her room and grabbing her belongings, sliding her feet into her shoes as she hurried back. “Have you done anything yet? Seen anything exciting?” She was a bit out of breath from her scramble and excitement.
