It’s been 5 years since I last posted on here that is so crazy to me. Here’s a little life update:
- My grandma died Christmas Eve 2022. We were very close, I saw her pretty much every day and I even lived with her for a little over a year after graduating high school. It was an extremely hard time for me but I knew she’d want me to not dwell on it and keep going. She didn’t see a purpose in crying or be sad over something you can’t change, but I remember her everyday and I know she is with me.
- I went to college for industrial maintenance, I graduated in 2023. I have 7 certificates and an associates degree. Most of my classes I was the only girl which was hard at first as I felt out of place, but a group of guys always made sure to include me and were there any time I needed a lab partner or help with a project or someone to study with. They were the friends I really needed at that time and I’m forever thankful to have met them
- in October 2022 I started working part time at my local animal shelter it was hard work but I loved it. After I graduated college I began working full time and took on more responsibilities, I was good at it and I took pride in it. I truly believe animal welfare is my calling. I met and had the privilege to work with some amazing people and I made a difference in the lives of around 1000 dogs. However, as much as I loved it and as much as it meant to me, some changes were made and it became too hard emotionally and physically. I made the decision to leave after 2 years in October 2024
- I adopted a shelter-favorite dog that was set to be euthanized before I quit. She arrived at the shelter a few months after I started working there so I had known her for almost 2 years and there was no way I could leave without her. Her name is Paisley and she’s part Australian shepherd, boxer, and pitbull. She’s insanely smart, sweet, funny, and she’s my best friend.
- in March 2025 I began working at Cato, a small women’s clothing store, as first assistant manager. I loved the responsibility and the fact that I got to dress up, I’ve always loved fashion so getting to be dressed cute at work was exciting. A big change from wearing scrubs everyday.
- In April I was promoted to store manager, after a little over a month of working there. It has been such a supportive place to work and I feel very lucky to have found another job I enjoy, with great people who push me to be my best. It has been a great opportunity for me to grow and has provided me with great role models. I have no plans to leave any time soon.
