My project!
I am happy to say that the drama preformance was a great success and we managed to raise over 100 books and toys for the children of the mangagare refugee centre! The success of my project inspired me to support the centre even further which resulted in the Mangere Refugee centre supporting me in organising a school cross country to raise funds to bulid a playground for the children. I have gotten many of my friends on board with the project and will post more about its progress!:)
Service Project Update!
My service project for the Mangere refugee centre has been going well and is following the schedule as planned. I have gathered a volunteered cast and crew for the performance and have made a schedule for rehearsal with the final performance being on the 18 and 19 September. I have been in contact with the Mangere Refugee Centre who have agreed to supply posters to help gain aware of the performance and together we chose the days of the performance so the following weekend the children can receive the toys on the centre's annual Kids Day!!!!

Service Day Challenge - Raising $533
Day 6
The Service Day Challenge was something new for me and it gave me the opportunity to work with new people to achieve an ultimate goal.
The ultimate goal being to raise funds for a cause, but what was the cause going to be?
When we first approached the idea of a service challenge we tried to think of a cause that all of us could relate too and of course cared about. We finally came up with the idea of raising funds for the BC Easter Seals Camp for kids with disabilities. The aim of the camp was to allow the kids to build their self-esteem and confidence. This related to all of us because as teenagers we are all going through that phase when we question our selves and have low self-esteem.
Once having a cause our ideas set off and we were able decide that we would give away free cookies and lemonade to those who made donations. We had a little trouble deciding our location because the areas that we wanted to place our stand were out of bounds. We decided that our stand would be situated outside Thrifty's, Langford.
Once arriving to our location we were quick to set up our stand including the signs that we had made previously. Our strategy was to make sure all members of our team were spread out all around the location with fliers so that we could make the most of our limited time of three hours.
Although we got some rejections, we were very enthusiastic towards the people and continued to be persistent with our positive energy. However, we did have a complaint about our group being too aggressive towards customers and so something we could have possibly worked on was our approach to people and realizing that even though we were very enthusiastic some people didn't feel the same.
Overall our Service Day Project was a success as we raised $533 which was more than our goal of $300. Usually for a child to be sent to the camp it would have cost $2000 per child but for every $100 donated a child would be able to attend.
This meant that the funds we had raised would send five children to BC Easter Seals!

Day 3
My experiences at the Dwight Leadership Academy have been extraordinary so far. Meeting so many new people and bonding through activities that bring out the leadership characteristics in all of us, has truly been like nothing I have ever experienced.
The encouragement and support that has been expressed by each individual has surprised me.
I can honestly say that I am on the path to discovering the true leader from within.
