So you think espio would draw in an anime art style if he'd like drawing ??❤️
Maybe bc I live in East Asia, I tend to see characters with the mindset we usually have here. There is this phrase 琴棋書畫 , literal meaning is "instrument, chess, calligraphy, illustration". It is the four artistic pursuits cherished by ancient literati and scholars, and is used to describe great cultural literacy of a person.
Music, intelligence, literature, aesthetic.
With Espio being a character that is so heavily influenced by traditions and practices, even speaks in ancient wordings sometimes in JP dub (something that cannot be translated bc old English does not have the same vibe/impression), I think he'd put time into practicing all of the above things.
Espio does have the music aspect, being well practiced in shamisen, a traditional instrument with East Asia background. You can see it as the equivalent of traditional guitar but Japan. (Pls don't argue about the origins of the instrument, every country can copy/reference each other to make their own versions of instruments)
Well, they all might sing badly in Heroes, but a person's voice isn't the point at all, it is the patience to study and understand how to play an instrument that matters.
Intelligence is pretty self-explanatory, he works as a detective so even if you don't think he's the smartest of the bunch, he's still one of the smart ones. Being the analyst/voice of reason in Chaotix, he ticks this category by default.
Literature, well it might be harder to see in English, but in JP he does quote a lot of proverbs that helps him express complex concepts with minimal words. Well, whether others understand or not is not important, but he should be well versed in literature with how he can easily apply difficult figure of speeches, aka well educated on this aspect.
Another thing is that Espio does also write in a traditional way. Imagine carrying a brush and dipping ink to write notes every day. That's him lol. Western equivalent would be him writing with a fountain pen that requires you to dip ink every 10 seconds. For modern day standards that is not convenient at all, but if he can manage then we won't judge UwU
(Maybe he's using modern brush with ink installed, idk, but the practice is still for cultivating one's emotional and aesthetic development)
So at this point, Espio has already checked 3 out of 4 things, with calligraphy scrapping the aesthetic aspect. So, if we want to be specific on the illustration skill from the aesthetic aspect, I think it'd be wonderful if Espio also learns how to draw. Anime style? Not exactly old, but there are still old anime with their distinct style before all of us were born. Something 70s onwards. Maybe Espio would be willing to try that as well. I mean, he's already learnt so much, why not one more skill?
To me, Espio is very culturally infused. And even tho he's traditional as hell, he still would not be opposed to learn new technology, despite still being bad at them. (DVD player set in Sonic X, Eggman's computer in ShTH) Being open to new things while cherishing nostalgic habits, I think him drawing in anime style is a nice touch on this aspect of Espio. <3
So yeah, let him doodle in his notebook, draw some pretty art <3
