despite being raised in a loving home with a beautiful and close-knit family, iden lives with depression and anxiety.
over the years, they’ve learned to manage their symptoms through routine and adopting hobbies
after being unable to stick to a job, iden started her own company (jam sesh) and now sells homemade jams and jellies at farmer’s markets, as well as making deals with local businesses and restaurants who are willing to put her jars on the shelves
very musically talented (and a good dancer). taught themself to play most of the instruments they have at home so ask them for a.. jam sesh (har har har)
not wanting to let their anxiety inhibit them from connecting with other, iden loves to keep people company while they do mundane tasks and is also known to ask friends to hang out while they make their jams
now that they’re thirty, id is thinking it’s time to begin to put themself out there and start going out to bars and attending public events alone in order to overcome creating fears
who: ford @bulldose
where: iden's room
when: afternoon
the plan was to walk over to the marine life conservatory with their instruments and busk for a little bit. part of the bigger plan— iden's masterful idea to be brave and do things no iden has ever done.. or whatever. was playing on the sidewalk really something they wanted to do, though? id allowed the question to roll around their mind as the two got ready. they had to admit, this part was fun. the outfit picking in order to be coordinated, but not too coordinated. being able to turn to ford and ask, "what color?" as she held up two different shades of lipgloss made her feel like a little kid. the feeling fueled the confidence that had come up with the idea, so it wasn't until they were grabbing their instruments (iden had a small synth) that doubt began to crumple her self-assurance. "maybe we should eat something before we go? i have a watermelon that needs to be cut up," iden offered. "i can make us something, real quick."
who: freddie & anyone
where: the book voyage (today it is in springdale)
work had never been such a dream for freddie. he had loved the library. he'd loved getting to know the people of the town ... but owning his own place? being his own boss? it was all he could have ever hoped for. so he had no problems in spending most of his time there. maybe he spent too much time there. did it take up too much of his time? probably.
freddie was busy working, doing some admin, when he heard the familiar noise of patrons in the store. he looked up, trying to ascertain who it was that had come in, "can i help with anything?" freddie questioned before he took in who was in front of him. "we got some new stuff in recently. some new releases, a few new versions of some classics... hopefully something to take your fancy."
when there was nothing to do, iden was always desperate to find something that would fill the time. as contradicting as it sounded, keeping busy helped their mind move more slowly. it was as if there was less room for her worries to race around; they were confined to small corners while iden went through to-dos. each time she crossed something off, there was something else to tag on so it became endless. rarely did they ever run out of things to do. when they did, iden had a long-list of hobbies to dive into, but today, nothing held their attention.
wandering around maple brook with no goal somehow always led to the bookstore. if this world couldn't ground iden, then maybe another one would. since reading was usually one of the last hobbies she turned to, she wasn't exactly sure what she was looking for. it relieved them when someone addressed them. “oh, yeah, some help would be great,” iden nodded slowly, putting down the book they’d picked up— the first line they’d read had been forgettable and therefore not worth the purchase in their mind. “i’m looking for something captivating. something that can make me forget myself and everyone i’ve ever known.. but! also something i could finish in a day?” realizing her order may be tall made id hesitant, almost regretful for having taken the nice man on their offer.
