When your passions are varied it can be easy to worry that you’re focusing on the *wrong* one.
Out of the fear of making the *wrong* choice we often waste our precious energy mentally flipping coins and wishing for a sign. The anxiety of having to choose can be so paralyzing that often many choose to do nothing at all.
The good news is that as an artist you’re never at risk of wasting your time unless you spend your time worrying about *how* to be an artist. You don’t become an artist the moment you’re recognized. You don’t become an artist the moment you make a living wage from your art. You become an artist the moment you create and share your honest response to life.
Traveling, Falling in love, Striking up conversations with strangers, Cooking, Singing at the top of your lungs, Having the flu, Being afraid, Listening, Learning new things, Losing love, Making shitty things, Being kind, Asking questions, Making amazing things, Being vulnerable, Changing your mind, Taking risks, Failing… all of these will make for wonderful art.
Anna Deavere Smith says, "What you are will show, ultimately. Start now, every day, becoming, in your actions, your regular actions, what you would like to become in the bigger scheme of things."
Study. Work hard. Stay curious and stay open.
Follow life.
None of it will be a waste of time🎈
