Lana leaned against the faded brick wall of the school building, lighting a cigarette and letting out a jaded sigh. She didn’t go there — hadn’t gone to school since she was in the fifth grade — but she had friends who did, and she liked to hang around and wait to catch a glimpse of one of them. However, at this moment, it was apparent that perhaps she should’ve stayed home and napped instead. Her head was throbbing after a particularly nasty fight, and, no amount of ibuprofen was fixing it. She whined softly, rubbing her temples, before looking around to see if anyone she knew was around.
Aspen slung her bag over her shoulder, pulling her hair up in a ponytail. School had just let out, and she’d had a particularly bad day. She’d failed yet another Chemistry test, forgotten her lunch, and now she had to go home and deal with her father again. Humming to herself, she walked around the side of the school building. So lost in her own world, she didn’t notice the girl as she rounded the corner, running right into her. “Oh my god,” she said quickly “I’m so sorry.” Aspen shook her head and brought a hand to her face “It’s my fault, I’m sorry, I wasn’t — I’m just really tired, I’m sorry,” she stuttered, shaking her hair out of its ponytail and combing her fingers through it.
