Iâm just in the process of creating a painting piece of a Red Kite, I have a long way to go with painting and need to really watch more videos on my technique. I am currently working on the face and will then carry it down to the feathers.
Red Kites are really important for my project because they have suffered from intensive human persecution and I wanted to look a bit more into that subject. As the Red Kite has become rarer it has become a target for taxidermists and egg collectors. They are slowly returning after nearly becoming extinct. In England, Red Kites have been re-introduced to four areas since 1989, the Chilterns, East Midlands, Yorkshire and North East England.
âBloomâ
A flower doesnât focus on the flower next to it. It just blooms. This a abstract painting based on how flowers bloom and that we shouldnât compare or compete with another. We should just focus on our self. Iâm happy how it turned out! My paintings in the past have never felt as free. I started off with painted dots and wall brush to create the abstract effect. I did the flowers with a smaller brush and added layers on top to create lines and a mixture of colours.
I have created a painting of red flowers on canvas. Itâs called âFlandersâ and raises awareness of the fields of Flanders, which was a major battle theatre . I used acrylic paint and mixed red tones and pink tones together to get this blossom and garnet colour. I first painted the canvas background white and grey, using a abstract effect. I then started with the first layer of the petals and focused on the shape and where they would be placed. I then did the grass effect. Finally I did the next layer and added a pink and more white to the flowers.
Planning in my sketchbook of âthe never ending trainâ which two artists are on the way to a exhibition and sit next to each other. They are very opposite... they clash and donât really agree on things.. also the conversation gets a bit awkward.. however the journey gets weirder and weirder of the outside world. âDoes this journey ever end? Whatâs taking so long? Is that a bird?â this is a plan before my storyboard on pro create... thinking about the setting and story line and what both artists will discuss and talk about...
Phrases....
âDonât rip it out.. figure it outâ..
âHumans are boring thoughâ
âAnimals are so different and I have a better connection with themâ
âI just prefer being aloneâ
âHumans can be peculiarâ
âWhy are you so quietâ
âEmbrace the failureâ
âHe was so strange looking, I wasnât sure if he was humanâ
âI feel so badâ
âStrange is goodâ âItâs uniqueâ
âWell you could put it like thatâ

Book cover designs Talking Turkeys
I just need to add a few more details and also workout the sizing because it doesnât seem to match the measurements. I will also be working on the writing on the front cover.
Coloured pencil drawing of a red kite, I made the mistake of using graphite pencils first and changing my mind wanting to use coloured pencils and I found it hard colouring over the graphite. I will be redrawing this soon to try and improve on the structure and highlights.
Live brief research in sketchbook. Some messy pages I know just wanted to quickly get my thoughts down and I find writing the information will process better đ I am looking at the book cover design brief for the Talking Turkeys childrenâs book, also I have been looking at the non fiction, The Uninhabitable Earth.
The aim for talking turkeys is to create a cover for age group of 8-12 year olds. I have a few ideas down on the iPad and Iâm trying to work out which is best.
The Uninhabitable Earth, I will be doing a small illustration and keeping it as documented looking as I can. I have sketched out a cliff and a tree on the iPad to use as my illustration. I am researching typography at the moment and what will suit the cover.
Tree drawing, practicing with hue, saturation and contrast.
