darbyplease:
Getting ready for bed is supposed to be a relaxing process, a routine that the curly haired male knew like the back of his hand. It shouldn’t have made Darby’s heart race and his breathing go erratic and yet his hands were shaking as he buttoned up the last few buttons on his silky pajama top. He knew the reasoning without a doubt. Teddy was going to be talking him to sleep, a routine that was nothing but familiar to them both. While it meant a return to normalcy, to the closeness they once shared even before they dated, it also meant Teddy, his Teddy, being in his bed. Next to him. Close enough to touch. Darby took one steadying breath and slipped on the matching bottoms to his pajama set, the long legs of the pants bunching a little around his feet. He padded out to his bed, perching on the edge of it. Pierre jumped up beside him with a mrrow of interest, drawing Darby’s hand to coax through soft fur. He sat in practiced nonchalance, eyes cast at the large television playing reality reruns even though internally, he was freaking out waiting for that moment when the door would open and Teddy would climb into bed.
It had been ages since Teddy could last remember sleeping in complete peace. He was restless enough as it was, but living out of his comfort zone never made it easier. He was used to Darby, though. At least, he wanted to still be able to say that. Living in Colorado made for a bit of a secluded life for Teddy. He knew people, and he eventually fell into a routine, but nothing was ever quite the same as home. And while he wasn’t technically ‘home’, being anywhere near Darby was always better than the actual house he grew up in. Teddy wanted everything to go back to normal with the two of them, he just wasn’t sure if that was possible. He still wasn’t sure what normal was, but he never expected to still be living with Darby of all people, and he definitely didn’t expect fall back into what used to be their thing. But Teddy wasn’t about to question it. He threw on a grey hoodie and some sweatpants, because that was really all that he had, and he traveled down the long hallway to Darby’s room. Upon reaching the door, he normally would’ve just gone right in, but that was then. Now, he gave a little knock, and cracked the door open enough just to peak his head around. “Darby..? Can I come in?”
