I'm Michelle Oglesby-Cunningham but I go by Meesh (and sometimes Maryn or Rahsyk), and this is my art blog. You can contact me at [email protected] I'm genderfluid! I really don’t feel good about doing this, but like the graphic says, bills > pride. Bills > insecurity too. Here’s the gig. Preparing for a hurricane is expensive. My stocking-up on food, water, batteries, and other essentials came to $201.12. That’s money I had intended for bills. Normally I work overtime every day, but with the flooding, I can’t come in to teach; Harvey is expected to swing north and hit Houston directly so IDK how long I’ll be out.

I could really use some help.

Oh lordy, I haven’t posted here in a while D: So sorry! I’ve been distracted by some big life changes and haven’t kept up much with my tumblr or with my own arts in general :P Most of my art time is spent on commissioner art (which I very much enjoy), and what’s left has been split between doodling and working on a project that will feature more on my naughty blog (it’s a project featuring silicone). 

But I do have SOME art to show. We recently switched from Mage: The Ascension over to some Vampire: The Dark Ages for our weekly RPG night, so that means NEW CHARACTERS! This is just a small sample with hopefully more to come soon. I’ll put the descriptions under a cut to save space.

Top left is my character Gavril. They’re a Tzimisce living in the general Transylvania area. In the drawing they’re presenting masculine, but they’re technically agender. Actually, genderfluid may be a better word for them. Their physical presentation shifts between masculine and feminine, but their gender is generally neutral. Being a body crafter, this allows for many arrangements of their self. This is just a starting point. I’m excited to explore other body situations for them :D They serve their sire as an envoy (she’s a powerful Tzimisce noble) and are currently traveling to nearby princedoms to meet the rulers and establish good relations.

Top right is my husband’s character Iskar. He’s a Salubri fighter from Viking territory who has spent a lot of time as a mercenary in the Byzantine empire. He and his cadre of mercenary troops are currently working for Gavril’s sire. They are traveling with them to keep them safe. He’s surly, but a damn good fighter.

Bottom pics are of my character’s sire, Adrianna. She’s a powerful Tzimisce noble who has taken good care to train her childe in the ways of diplomacy. We haven’t interacted much yet, but I like her so far. Left is her resting state, right is her ANGRY FACE!

Okay, that’s it for now. I should have more vampires along eventually. Fun times!

So last Friday I doodled up this fishy monster during game night. Everyone’s been posting lovely drawings of the Zora prince from the new Zelda and it made me wanna draw a fishy beast. So here’s some highlighter and pen doodles! That lower right one has a withered left hand, poor thing. This was a fun little design that I intend to use for a different project eventually...

Ooooooh dang! Looks like my main gaming group is about to shift from Mage: The Ascension to...Vampire: Dark Ages!! AW YEAH! We’ve got a few Mage games left before the switch, so I’m spending some time working up a character. Worry not, this doesn’t mean the Mage game is over forever. We’ll rotate back to it before too long. We tend to switch between 2 storytellers to give both guys some time to play. 

Anyways, we’re working on making up new characters, so I did some doodling today. I thiiiink I’m gonna stick with this for my character’s design for now. Gavril is a young Tzimise just starting on their road to greatness. They’re currently masculine presenting, but are truly gender neutral. Though they might end up more genderfluid? We’ll see. I know they’re not overly freakish looking in the Tzimisce manner, but they’re just getting started. I wanted to start fairly tame and let them grow as the game progresses. Their design is a call back to an ooooold vampire NPC that showed up in some Mage games I ran many many years ago. Hopefully I’ll be able to get this character going somewhere fun :)

The Tzimisce are my fave clan and I’m super excited to finally get a chance to play one! I know a lot of Vampire lore, but I’ve never actually ended up playing. I tried running a Dark Ages game for my husband years ago, but I never did more than a couple of sessions that were...not super great. So I’m SO EXCITED to finally get to play some Vampire!! And I happen to think the Dark Ages setting is the most appealing for Vampire.

So yeah, I guess there will be more vampire doodles soon. Cuz I’m gonna have a LOT of new bloodsuckers to illustrate in short order ;D

Today is me and my husband @dyslexicoedr‘s 9th wedding anniversary. We were married on February 2nd, 2008, but we’ve been together as a couple for much longer. Since we met in high school back in 2001 (February 5th), actually. We’ve been together the whole time and he’s still my absolute favorite person in this whole wide world. This is a little doodle of our original RPG couple from the very first game we ever played together (Mage: The Ascension, of course). I haven’t drawn these two in a long time and it was a nice little exercise to do today :) For our anniversary he took a couple days off work, so we’re gonna spend time avoiding the internet, eating awesome food, and just enjoying each other’s company.

Shit’s real bad out there, guys. My nerves can barely handle all this shitty news going around. In an attempt to distract myself from real life I did some doodling. 

This is more art for my little Trans-Dimensional Sorceress project thing. Lydia (demon sorceress), her apprentice Derrick (confused human), and her familiar Tyv (shapeshifting chimera) are stocking items in her shop. Derrick was not expecting the contents of his vials to be so...gross. This project skews NSFW, so you can just sort of assume there’s something strange in that vial. I’m trying to do more with this little project because it’s fun and I enjoy it :3

I slapped a little color on a doodle from this weekend. Lydia is a demon sorceress from a little side project I work on from time to time. It’s an adult art project, so it shows up on my dirty tumblr, not here. That little project is sort of an AU for some of my Mage characters.

This was the last piece of art I completed in 2016. It’s kind of fitting, really. 2016 was sort of a Wyrm of a year. I was asked to submit a piece of art to a gallery in a tattoo shop (a tattoo artist friend’s friend moved and opened a new shop). The theme was creatures and I jumped at the opportunity! I’ve been wanting to paint more, actually. This is my first time having art for sale in a gallery, so that’s pretty rad.

Please forgive the yellowness of the progress photos. The lighting in my house isn’t the best :P The top pic was taken outside in the daylight. I’ll follow this post with another that has detail shots from the final piece. This was painted on a piece of smooth wood. I think it was about 14 X 10 inches in size (I totally forgot to measure it before I sent it off). I painted it with craft acrylics because I’m cheap as hell. It was sealed with polyurethane spray when finished.

I started with the sketch above. I knew I wanted to do something weird and snakey with a big eyeball. As soon as the sketch came together I knew what color scheme I would use. I do love dark gray with bright, sickly green. 

I started by giving my board a wash of yellow green. Oh man, it is so goddamn bright and gross x___x From there I blocked in all the gray. I really hate the early stages of a painting where nothing looks right and everything looks crappy. Then came lines, which helped me structure things. From there I just built a bunch of gray up and eventually went into the greens. 

There are definitely parts of this painting I would have liked to spend more time on. Unfortunately, I put it off til the very last minute (as usual) and only had about two days to squeeze all this into. Totally my fault! I wish I’d done a better background for it. But hey, it was fun! And if it sells, that would be rad too! And if not, I still like it enough to hang it in my house :) Hooray for that!

Okay, I am waaaaay late posting this! Apologies! I took a few weeks off over the holiday to spend time with my husband and I’m just now sort of getting back to my computer. This is my 2016 art compilation thing! WHOO! This is the first year in a while that I’ve had art I felt was interesting enough for one of these. I’m going to use this post to talk about how my 2016 went and what goals I have for 2017, but I’m going to spare your dash and put it all under a cut!

2016

Wow, that sure was a year. Art wise, I did a LOT of art in 2016. I think I managed to find a good schedule for working on art and was able to get through a lot more than in previous years. Most of the art I completed was commission work, but there was also a fair amount of personal art I was able to complete. The image above has a nice mix of both personal and commission work. It definitely helped that I was inspired by playing a new Mage: The Ascension game with my weekly group. I have drawn SO MUCH CHARACTER ART for that game! It’s a great feeling!! And I was able to focus enough to even draw a few actual comic pages! That was pretty damn exciting for me. So yeah, a good year for art.

As far as personal things go, 2016 was sort of a weird, bittersweet year. Politics was....good lord. We all know how that shit show went. Politics was my biggest source of anxiety for 2016. Getting my hopes and dreams way up during Bernie Sanders’ campaign only to have that turn into a fucking freefall of terribleness after his defeat in the primaries. My optimism took a hell of a blow this year x___x

But as far as personal things are concerned, 2016 was a pretty good year. This is the year my sister had her baby! She is the first of my siblings (of whom I am the oldest) to have a baby, which brought a lot of joy to my family! Also, we bought a house!! My husband and I bought the house my dad grew up in from my mom this year and we are now proud homeowners! That’s not something I thought we’d ever be able to achieve. Also, my husband has been doing VERY well at his job and was given another raise this year! They’re trusting him with more responsibility and it makes me happy to know he’s doing so well there. I started karate this year, and thought I’m not super great at it, I do enjoy it very much! So yeah, my personal life did pretty great in 2016 (politics aside). 

2017

But what about this new year? Well, I’m optimistic going into it. I should say, I’m optimistic that my personal life will continue to do well. I’m going to probably have to cut down on my time reading news headlines to save myself from having a full on mental breakdown (my anxiety has been feeding off the news and it’s growing more powerful by the day). My husband and I have some upgrades to our home planned and I’m excited for all that! I love home improvement projects! There are other personal things planned, but I don’t want to say much more until we know if it’ll actually happen or not.

Art! I’ve got some art goals for 2017! I don’t know if I started 2016 with any goals in mind, but I’m going to work on some things this year for sure. First thing, I’m going to try to make time every month to draw at least one nice drawing for myself. Not sketches or doodles, a proper drawing. Color and everything. Just for me. Second, I’d like to draw one piece of fan/gift art for someone I know every month. I really do enjoy drawing for other people and I think that would be a nice goal. Third, I’m going to work on improving my digital coloring skills. I can be better, I know it! And fourth, I’m going to try to do more painting. I really do enjoy it :)

So I guess that’s it. Here’s hoping I can start this year with a bang and just keep that momentum going!

This is a preorder form for my Tiger Eye art card print. They are hand printed on 2.5"x3.5" bristol cards with Caligo relief inks. Not a mass produced card from a printing machine but 100% handmade! There will be very minor differences between each print but they will all look basically the same due to the handmade process. Each card will be $7-10 depending on shipping location and if you would like to buy a mini frame or not for your card. Every card comes fully protected in doubled-sleeved Dragon Shield plastic sleeves to keep dust and dirt out and protect against fingerprints when handling. They should be able to fit snugly in a trading card pocket sleeve as they are cut to standard size. Important notes! -Paypal only! Sorry, no exceptions. -From start to finish these cards will take a week to make as I try to do at least 2 colors a day. This card has a total of SIX colors. Oh look! A comic! You know, I’ve been reading comics for a couple of decades now and I’ve been trying to draw them since I was in middle school. I managed to draw a five page comic back when I worked for Minicore Studios, but that was for work. This one is a little project done with my husband to see if I could actually do it. 

This was written by my husband @dyslexicoedr and partly laid out by him too. I did the artwork. It’s a self-contained little story. We may do another part of it at some point, or we may not. This little story featured our characters Lydia, Tyv, and Derrick, all of whom are from our ongoing weekly Mage: The Ascension game.

Oh look! A comic! You know, I’ve been reading comics for a couple of decades now and I’ve been trying to draw them since I was in middle school. I managed to draw a five page comic back when I worked for Minicore Studios, but that was for work. This one is a little project done with my husband to see if I could actually do it. 

This was written by my husband @dyslexicoedr and partly laid out by him too. I did the artwork. It’s a self-contained little story. We may do another part of it at some point, or we may not. This little story featured our characters Lydia, Tyv, and Derrick, all of whom are from our ongoing weekly Mage: The Ascension game. 

I learned a lot working on this. Namely, if I do another comic, I’m going to try to batch the work together as much as possible. You may notice that page 1′s lines are a little different from the others. I did that one’s inks many weeks before i did the other three and it shows. I’m still not 100% happy with the word bubbles, but I figure that’ll come with practice. 

I chose this style and to do it in grey scale with a tiny bit of color deliberately. The next comic I do will probably be a different style. I want to try different stuff out to see what I like most and what works best for me. For this one I went with lots of textured lines and blocks of color. I love how sketchy it feels :) Doing it in grey scale was a fun challenge. Coloring isn’t always easy for me. 

Anyways, I hope you all enjoy! Please feel free to offer up light critique if you’re an artist! I very much want to improve my comic making and I know there’s many things I could fix here. I say gentle critique because this is a thing I did for fun and I don’t want to ruin it with too much attention :P I’m shy and anxious like that. Thank you!

I’m working on a 4 page comic to sorta...see if I can actually do comics. Featuring some of me and @dyslexicoedr‘s Mage characters. I’ve finished the first two pages and I just need to color the last two. It’s hard! Definitely a fun challenge. My husband scripted it and I am doing the arts. He’s a much better writer than I am, but I draw better, so we make a great team :) This thing is going to be far from perfect, but it’s coming out pretty good for a first attempt, I think.

Hopefully I’ll have this finished and ready to share by the end of next week (crossing my fingers).
