[☩]      “Rin’s another matter entirely and you know it. She’s got the privilege of being the commander’s girlfriend. Top if off you’re her Knight. No one is going to argue with the worlds ‘savior’.”

      He got him there. Squalled sighed softly. In the time they hadn’t spoken he forgotten how frustrating Seifer could be to talk to. “Look, I’m trying. Alright? Maybe it would be better if where you slept wasn’t with the students here. There is the section where the faculty live.”

[☩]      “Heh, maybe. Bet you’d love that…You going to bug me about anything else Princess?

       “If I wanted you gone, I would have told you to leave a long time ago, Seifer.” He wasn’t exactly sure how but, “and if it’ll make Zell happy maybe we could try and calm down some of the talk the goes on. Hyne knows we got people okay with Rinoa here in spite what she ended up becoming and what we were trained to do.”

[☩]      “I can do what needs to be done if it comes down to it…I can leave. Without Zell.” Seifer prayed it never came down to that. But if it meant keeping Zell safe he would do whatever needed to be done. “Most everyone would love it if I left. Be it walking or a body bag.”

      Squall frowned. As much as he didn’t like the odd couple, he did want to see Zell happy. “If you’re going to ditch him then you better do it now and maybe he’ll get over the heartache one day.”

[☩]       “Both of us? Careful Squall, you sound almost as if you give a damn about me.” He gave a sigh. “I don’t expect to be safe, anywhere. Any moment I could get stabbed in the back. What happens, happens. ”

      “Mhmm. It’s not like you both can run away to live on some farm. I would suggest Winhill since they’re so closed off, but knowing Zell he’d get into trouble at the chocobo crossing.” If anything, he wanted his friend safe.

[☩]      “What can I say other than I’m a selfish asshole.” He gave a casual shrug. “I want to stay with him. Keep him with me. But I sure as hell don’t want to see him hurt. That isn’t exactly easy what with all the angry eyes on me….Or did you forget that incident in Balamb where he got jumped? I tried then to tell him he’d be better off without me around but you know him. He wouldn’t have a damn word of it.”

      “No, I hadn’t forgotten what happened. I went out looking for the attacker so you could be with him if you had forgotten.” That garnered an angry look from the brunet. “Look, if you love him. Fine. I’m not going to question your feelings. If he honestly feels that way about you in return, then be with him. We both know how this is going to end down the line. And while I want you both safe here. But I can’t promise that.” It was unlike Squall to say so much in one go, but this was an odd situation.

[☩]      “Turn red, start babbling, and then make an excuse to run for it?” At least he was pretty sure that’s how it would go. Then again Zell could be surprising. “I care a lot about him alright. Even love him.” Hyne he just admitted it to Leonhart. With luck he wouldn’t have any repercussions from that. “Last thing I want is to hurt him. But he sure as hell doesn’t make it easy. Do I think he’d be better off not with me? Yeah. Hell of a lot safer. Don’t think I haven’t talked to him about it. He doesn’t want to go anywhere else though.”

      To say the least, that surprised Squall to the point where it showed on his face. “I see...” He pondered on that bit of information. If Zell had felt that deeply already.. Propping a hand on his waist Squall sighed. “Is that what you want? To stay with him?”

[☩]       “Oh really?” He knew the two were close friends. Especially after all that running about they did during the war. “Let me take a guess and say I’m not one of those best interests. Am I right?”

      “Don’t know that. There’s rumors, but that’s never reliable information to go by.” Squall was watching Seifer to see his reaction was with each exchange. “It’s better to go to the source. Can’t ask Zell because you know how he would react”

[☩]      “What do you think I plan on doing with him? String him a long and break his heart?” He was sure most people thought that. That Seifer was simply using Zell, but it was certainly not the case. Last thing he ever wanted was to hurt him. “The answer is a lot simpler. He and I are together so he’s moving in with me. You think I’d do that with just anyone?”

      “No, but he is.. brash. I thought it was his idea to be honest.” He was having just a hard enough time believing it was all true to begin with. “Have to look out for my friend’s best interests.”

[☩]      “The cat is not for me.” Though he was happy to have it around. “You got something against me and Zell?”

      He held his hand up as if he were going to say something. Holding back the thought Squall said something else. “It’s not something anyone was really expecting, to say the least.” He glanced away when he saw a passing student. “I can’t speak for the others. But I wondered what your intentions were with him.”

[☩]      Word certainly got around fast. Though with Garden’s eyes on him all the time he wasn’t all that surprised. “Is that what honors me with your presence? A little rearranging and a cat?”

      “It doesn’t matter to me if you wanted a cat or not. Rinoa has her dog. I was more concerned with Zell.” If anything at least Squall didn’t dance around the topic.

Without so much a word Squall stood there with the same unamused face he always had. He placed a hand on his waist as he done many times before.

[☩]      Great, just who he was hoping to walking into. Not. Seifer frowned and crossed his arms. “What the hell do you want Leonhart?”

      Anger. Why shouldn’t he be surprised. “Just wondering if you’re having fun with the big move that started. I heard there’s even a cat involved.”

[bokokokoro]

“You mean… You’re losing bits of time?” Bartz pushed back from Squall with a frown, worry creasing his brow. “That’s…. Not good.” 

He thought for a minute of his own illness and then sighed. He inched closer and buried his face in the gunblader’s neck. “Are you okay…?”

“I guess that’s one way to put it. It’s a bit hard to describe since you know how I prefer to travel alone.” Pushed on Squall looked sadden. He knew this would be upsetting to hear.

“I’m alright right now aside from not realizing how long you were away. I still remember you and the things we have been through.” With Bartz’s head buried on his neck Squall would wrap his arms around the other to attempt to sooth his worries.

“Thought? Thought what…?” With the other’s face turned, he pulled his hand back, disappointment evident on his face. Had he said something wrong?

There was some hesitation. It was a wonder if it was short lived because this was Bartz he was talking to and someone he had already spoken to about certain delicate subjects.

“I’ve lost track of time. Or I should say off and on.” Lifting a hand Squall would rub his forehead lightly. “I think it was from something I did back home. For days it won’t happen and then the next thing I know I’m somewhere else, and I can’t remember how I got there. Or if I’m fighting a manikin their faces seemed blurred. Hard to recognize.”

“I was only gone for a few months! Wanderers wander, you know.” 

Quiet now, because his heart ached. A hand went to Squall’s cheek, thumb stroking the merc under an eye. “I missed you too.”

“Months?” Squall looked questioning down at Bartz. “I thought..” His words quiet, Squall would frown he looked away quietly. There was a thought in his eye but he wasn’t saying anything.

Peeks over at the brunet curiously.

      “Squaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall~~~~~~~”

[ Stops in his affectionate assault, but only for a moment. ] 

“Yeeeees?”

Pecks the bard’s forehead just because.

Peeks over at the brunet curiously.

      “Squaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall~~~~~~~”

Was not expecting reaction. Blue screen. Must now reboot. Rebooting....

“Awh.” He cooed, softly. Slowly, he slipped an arm around Squall and clasped onto him gently, fingers pulling on the soft fabric of his jacket. “I mean it though. I think it suits you. If my hair got any longer, it’d fan out and curl like crazy.”

With Bartz clinging to him, Squall would naturally wrap his arms around the other. It seemed natural. He remembered doing it plenty of times with Rinoa, but it wasn’t the same. “Hm. I guess I could leave it long for now..” he mused outloud. It was partly to see what kind of reaction he might get if it seemed like Squall hadn’t made up his mind yet.
