Quick sketch i did of Citizen 1985 Jennifer for mcfly july day 5 I didnt get round to posting. if im honest I feel odd posting my silly bttf sketches here mainly because i started off with fully rendered stuff and then stopped.i still want to post full drawings and digital stuff its just that for a daily thing like mcfly july its easier to do it traditionally and im looking to improve my ability to draw marty.ill definitely do more full art(still bttf proberbly) but for now I may stick to sketches.this month got really busy all of a sudden and I have no idea how, like, I thought it was all over wdym???😭 anyways ill stop yapping abt that(thought i should mention it) i loooveeee jen I think shes really cool and doesnt get enough stuff in the movies.ive always liked her citizen design but I changed it a little bit just for fun! i got this idea from how she keeps calling martin a square and how she'd never date him( then proceeding to start dating him) in the game and thought it was cool. hiii! the time has come for me to talk about frankenmarty's design a bit! I mentioned some brief stuff in my doc post but this is more in depth explanation alongside some story bits.ive done a sketch of marty/martin(as hes known as in this au) just for reference.i accidentally made him look abit young in this drawing (still learning to draw him) but hes still 17.just to clarify, the martys hes made of died at the age of 17 which is my way of still making him the right age without having been undead for so long( that made literally no sense) anyways I hope you like him and are enjoying the frankenmarty stuff!!!(its officially on my mind all the time😭)

Martin's Design
-his jacket(and most of his clothing) were all docs when he was younger(as stated in my doc post) but obviously they are built very different.we see young doc in the game and not only is he taller but also isnt made of people sew together so martys jacket is wrapped around him and sewn together.this means it doesnt actually open and is instead put on like a jumper rather than a jacket.the main reason I did this is firstly because I wanted the overlapping curved lines to be a contrast to the sharp more structured lines in docs design to show the difference between the two, and second,because one of martys issues is that(get ready for some over explanation) he is powered by electricity which hit mostly the middle( the heart) of his body and then travels to the rest of him and at first,failed to power his hands enough to move correctly.so to try and fix this,doc gave him metal joints in his wrists and ankles to conduct the electricity through to his hands and feet.the problem is that he still isnt great with his hands(unless hes playing guitar which i will talk about later) and so doing up buttons is proberbly quite hard, so the lack of buttons on the jacket is also a practical thing. the old buttons on the jacket are unused and kinda just sit there but the thread around them is pulling the fabric to make it fit better and is tied in a bow which makes two eights(like 88mph)it was a kinda unnecessary detail but I wanted to include 88 somewhere and it looks cool so um.... yeah. one of the sleeves is sewn from a different jacket, originally just for vibes but then I realised I kept drawing one arm longer than the other BUT it was the arm marty plays guitar (strumming hand) so the weird sleeve is there to accommodate the guitar arms length and more mobility when playing. the polka dot rolled sleeves are supposed to be like the patterned ones marty has with his denim jacket in 1985 just to reference aspects of his original design aswell as the pattern adding to the (hopefully well shown) weirdness of his design. the seam down the front wouldve been the side seem on the original jacket but also was supposed to make the shape of the flux capacitor with the crossed over top part of the jacket(i dont think its that clear though).unrelated but theres also a flux capacitor shaped seam on his neck(and his hands!!)to be honest I kinda hit them everywhere all over him(and doc)for fun and I like knowing their there💗apart from the fact its slightly burnt at the edges from getting involved with docs experiments i think thats it for the jacket!
-as for his silly trousers(im so sorry marty but they look funny and time period accurate so your keeping them)theres nothing really that special about them.on the topic of legs though(crazy thing to say)I originally gave him really long socks to cover his legs but kinda liked it without.i also originally have him shoes but I drew him barefoot for some reason and had the thought that because he doesnt really leave the mansion much for the most part he wouldn't really need them.aswell as this, he also wouldn't feel like he did?he was made without shoes and doc never says he has to wear them so why not? also it gives him more opportunity to be the scamp that he is and run around.hes very jumpy and I had this weird thought that he tends to climb and swing on things like lights or bookshelves so shoes proberbly wouldn't help that. I might mostly draw him with shoes in the future mainly because feet freak me out(I have no idea why)so I do have shoes for him,mostly just forgot to draw them in this sketch(how did i start yapping abt this?????)
-as for all his cuts and scars, the reason they're all so sparatic is mostly because doc took all the good parts of the other martys and left the bad ones so its mainly just lots of sections separated by stitches.the smaller lines are actually scars from the lightning and are supposed to look like lighting too! I thought it was a cool way to add more detail and include the bolt of lightning in his design that would make the most sense as it wouldve definitely scarred him in some way.the bolts are supposed to replicate the original depictions of frankenstien aswell as the white streak in his hair!
-I said id mention his guitar although not technically part of his design.i felt that you cant have marty without his rock n roll so even thought its the 1700s I like to think doc brought back lots of old scraps from electric guitars in the future and made marty his own! it still looks quite similar to the one he has normally just a bit of colour in some places and also a weird mash up of lots of different pieces. I think it woukd be so cool if alot of his stuff is made out of different parts just like he is.it not only makes him feel more normal to himself but also makes it so hes not the only thing in the world made the way he is, kinda like a way to comfort him?
this is all the stuff I can think of mentioning right now but theres definitely more.if you cant tell i LOVE my unnecessary details so im sorry if theres to many. In addition to his wardrobe across multiple time periods, Marty gets a few additional outfits in 1985PN prior to his journey.
1982:
How Pine Needle Met Emmett: Marty was already wearing the denim bomber jacket and tearing up his shirts, but only just a little bit- As opposed to the simple red t-shirt and jeans of the original story. Everything else remains identical.
The time in-between:
Marty started dying his hair dark brown at one point (Comparison below). It started out looking like Marty's hair in "Who is Marty McFly?", slicked back with a stubborn strand or two- He's since let it grow out and started styling it a little more. These stubborn strands are a consistent presence.
1984:
Smaller details: Haircut is this. That's all I have to say. bubble's original doodle would be how his bangs look tho because i like them and you gotta have that right part!
Basic Outfit: Retains the ripped up t-shirt and the bomber jacket, though the shirt has since been ripped up further. Switch out regular jeans for ripped ones (dark wash) and sneakers for combat boots.
"Keeping Up Appearances": The ripped up t-shirt is switched out for black suspenders, a white t-shirt, and a purple button-up (long sleeve, with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows). Said button-up has the same pattern as the original Marty's but turned around to form a diamond pattern instead of a square one. i cannot find like. a png of the pattern anywhere but it's not hard to imagine. we all know that pattern.
"Spare Jacket": Due to the paint stains on his clothes from the trap in Doc's Lab, Marty subbed out his usual clothes for the rest of the week, wearing a dark blue denim jacket, blue t-shirt, and non-ripped jeans.
"Blood Spills": The outfit mentioned above, but with the black suspenders, white t-shirt, and purple button up. This jacket ends up sitting in Marty's closet for a while, the blood stains still present.
After this, Marty now starts sporting an undercut, not unlike his adversary. He prefers to simply trim around it (i.e. tapering it) every few months rather than shaving around it. "It looks better", after all. He also starts wearing black nail polish and subtle eyeliner.
"For the Next Two Weeks": As Marty ends up needing about two weeks to recover from his injury, he's excused from school and ends up spending most of his time in bed. He's just wearing a dark blue tank top with his lavender briefs. When Jenn comes to visit, he tosses on some grey sweatpants.
"All Roses Have Thorns": Modification of the base outfit. Straps now hang from his belt, with the belt having small metal studs made of the same material as his jacket's buttons. His mirrored aviators are on nearly all the time. He wears black leather gloves and his boots now have steel toes (put on by Doc at Marty's insistence).
All Roses Have Thorns' Jacket: The centerpiece of "All Roses Have Thorns"- There's now a few small spikes on his jacket, put on by Jenn and the same material as his jacket's buttons. There's a dark red rose embroidered onto the back of the collar with thorns extending out from the middle by Jenn. They are long enough to cover the whole back of the collar, but barely visible from the front. The pins (he didn't start wearing them until now) are the same with minor differences- The Fender P Bass pin is instead cherry red with a black pickguard, and the boomerang pin is dark blue with the pattern being red (representing the spare jacket and the blood now spilt onto it). There is also a fourth pin- A red rose (the one pictured here is one from the 80's, and is quite small- one inch long! it fits in well, right?).
1985
"Life Preserver": Same as the outfit in the film, but with "Keeping up Appearances" as the base. He also wore sneakers (Blue Bruins, as opposed to red) instead of his boots.
1955 (General note: Marty's hair is always slicked back with Vaseline Hair Tonic)
"First Day of School in '55" (Letterman Version A): Single color change- The pattern is dark blue instead of cyan.
"Skateboard Chase" (Letterman Version B): Same with a single color change- The chain pattern is blue instead of red.
Letterman Version C (Long sleeve, Pale pink): Now a pale purple, as opposed to pale pink, with pale blue detailing, as opposed to pale teal.
"That Zoot Suit": The same, though the tie now has a very subtle rose pattern, and the tie clip has a rose instead of some generic flower. There is now a small lapel pin with a burgundy rose on the end of it attached to the left side of the suit's collar. He ends up hanging onto it, shoving it into the pocket of his jeans- He wears this pin whenever possible across the trilogy, often if not always on the right side of his collar- The same side as his scar.
2015
Marty Jr. Disguise: White T-shirt as a base. Hair gel used to make his hair resemble that of his perpetually soaking wet cat of a son. This is when he finds the lapel pin is still in his pockets. He ends up pinning it onto his t-shirt. This is when he starts seeing it as a good luck charm.
47 year old Marty: The same. Literally the only one completely unchanged. He doesn't even have the lapel pin on.
Detour to 1985A:
Marty ends up getting a few tears in his shirt after getting it caught on something- Mostly in the form of some small holes. It now bears minor resemblance to the one Needles wears- Much to his chagrin. After dropping off Jennifer, he asks Doc to hang onto the lapel pin for him. It likely would have gotten broken if he hadn't- And that would have had him devastated.
1955 (again)
"Something Inconspicuous": The now-torn white shirt is the base. Lapel pin on the right side of the collar.
"Delgado Mine": "Skateboard Chase" as the base, with the tan overcoat being more of a mix between tan and brown, and having the lapel pin stuck below the right side of the collar due to the material it's made out of.
"Atomic Cowboy": Same. You can't change perfection. Marty left the lapel pin in the DeLorean (either pinned it onto the ridiculous hat or put it somewhere like the glovebox. probably the latter), and retrieved it later. Another situation where if he wore it, it very likely would have been broken- For a while, he thinks that if he had, he wouldn't have gotten almost hanged. He eventually gets that off his mind- It's better that he's still got it. He ends up hanging onto the red bandana, keeping it in his pockets until his last day there (see: Clint Eastwood). Hair isn't gelled down- He was planning to, but the bear threw a wrench into that.
1885
"Festival": The same. Lapel pin on the right side of the collar, again.
"Clint Eastwood": The same. Red bandana from "Atomic Cowboy" tied around the left upper arm. Lapel pin in the middle of the poncho, at the very top of the neckline and hidden under the blue bandana.
1985- Again
"What, You Think I'm Stupid Enough to Race That Asshole?": it's just clint eastwood wit no hat but this is beautiful and symbolic
You could also call it "Nobody Calls Me Chicken. And Needles' a Nobody."
A little fun fact... He kept some fabric scraps recovered from the destroyed DeLorean, mostly those of his button-up. A small reminder of what he's been through.
Post-Part III:
"This Rose Still Has Thorns": The same as the original "All Roses Have Thorns" with a few additions. Marty now has the lapel pin... you'll never guess... That's right! The right side of his collar. The red bandana is tied around his left arm. He doesn't always have these extra accessories on, i.e. they're shoved into his pockets. Force of habit.

Happy 41st Anniversary to Back to the Future!!! (also happy mcfly july day 3!)bttf is something that is oddly special to me(corny I know)and its crazy to think its 41 whole years old.like what?? anyways I did this little doodle for day 3 about something that came to mind while watching this scene.i feel like people's memory of marty from when he was in 1955 (and 1920s i think counting the game)isn't enough of an issue.what do you mean Lorraine's kid looks SUSPICIOUSLY like that boy she had a massive crush on and went to a dance with when she was 17 and no one thinks to care?? Mcfly July day 2! I didnt have too many ideas for this one so I thought id draw Lorraine.shes a really lovely character and I wanted to do a cute sketch of her.i feel bad for her in every movie if im honest(maybe not the last one but only because shes not really in it) but i still love her and her design! anyways I dont have much to say about this one except for the fact I seem to be doing alot more traditional stuff recently and will proberbly continue throughout mcfly july.im actually more comfortable doing traditional art but never colour or finish it so I tend to post digital stuff.regardless I hope yall like it and have a lovely rest of your day!

hii,wanted to post some more frankenmarty so these are some doodles and rough ideas i did of doc! still struggle to draw him and he does look slightly like a triangle with a face but its a start! I know the quality of the image is absolutely horrendous but my phone camera is about 8 pixels per photo so its the best one I could take(sorry!!!!)anyways these are some silly ideas ive had.ill put some details about doc's design under the image that i didn't put or aren't visible in the sketch(theres also some silly annotations dont mind them😭)-
Doc's Design
-I wanted to stick to the 1700 setting(around 1790) so some of it is sort of time period accurate.luckily because doc is a sort of outcast character in any version of him he's outfit can be a bit weird.hes trousers are long and more modern(saw them during time travel) and he wears them because he reallllyyy doesnt like the funky short trousers mostly worn by wealthier classes in the 1700 and I wanted to respect that.marty on the other hand does wear them because his outfit consists of docs clothing from when he was 17 but altered to fit marty.this means its all sewn together(just like him and all his other stuff i will proberbly make a separate post abt if yall are interested)to kinda show the difference in doc and marty's creation-doc being made like a normal person and wearing roughly well put together clothing vs marty wearing weird chopped up clothing because he was made by literally being chopped up and put back together again😭.
-as for his waistcoat, I wanted it to mirror 1985 docs weird patterned shirts by also having weird patterns on it and colours.under the waistcoat he has a sort of shirt thing on that is stuffed into his long leather gloves(i think they look cool and are a nod to the original Victor Frankenstien designs)which are also thick and protect him from all the strange tools in his experiments!
-his coat(my favourite bit) is very long and swishy.his design replicates his 1955 design more than his 1985 design in this aspect due to how instead of a lab coat its a thick lined trench coat.on the inside of the coat there are two coppery goldish embellishments which go down the back and are supposed to replicate the fire tracks of the delorean aswell as a pocket for his pocket watch he always carries with him.im still deciding if I want the weird triangle bottom for the coat but I think if I do go with that there can be a seam up to the top from the middle to mirror the flux capacitor(i like little details im sorry💔)also the coat is proberbly very singed and burnt at the edges from all the experiments.
-finally his goggles! they are big and round and kinda bug looking which wasnt what I was going for but okay! they are acc supposed to replicate his fathers circle glasses we see him with in the telltale game which I thought was a nice touch.this is kinda random but it also is part of frankenmarty's weird fascination with lights.basically(i could yap for hours about weird little stories ive come up with but here's one) when marty was brought to life (with a bolt of lightning/1.21 gigawatts of power i will talk abt at some point) it happened in docs lab and this was the first time marty saw him.this is also when the lightning reflected of docs goggles and created a weird bright light which was basically the first time marty was alive at all which is why he has an interest in lights because it was the first time he lived and saw doc(his creator).i know its a very specific story and kinda irrelevant detail but I thought I could mention it.if yall have any better ideas id love to hear them!!!!
-overall,docs design is a mix of 1700 fancy guy and crazy time travelling outcast scientist! theres alot of other details(mostly symbolism and tiny character design details)that i will maybe mention briefly at a later date but for noe this is the base of it.ive been putting of doc because I knew I wouldn't be able to draw him very well but I tried my best! If I do a design sheet ill proberbly just do his outfit and not his face (another reason the goggles are there😔).I really love doc and hes such an awesome character.i will definitely draw clara and jennifer a design at some point and give them a proper role in the story! docs full name in this au is Doctor Emmet Lanthropp Von Braun ( it sounds so fancy with the von braun bit ) but marty still finds a way to call him doc! ill stop yapping now and have a lovely day! The nature of the violence made me very hesitant to share him here (hence my lack of tags on the above art when i posted it).
However! I’ve been mulling it over. Part of getting better at putting yourself out there is forcing yourself to do it. And I want to. I really didn’t and don’t think anyone will be interested but BUT you can’t let things like that hold you back you know? Even if no one else cares. I care. That’s enough. This post is for me.
So… if he’ll be accepted, though he was not originally made to be part of martymania (by @bubbiegummie ), I want to propose my evil evil little guy.
If you are unfamiliar with Hotline Miami, it is a hyper violent shooter game set in 1989. Protagonist is an silent, unnamed hitman the community calls Jacket. I played it for the story. And then I thought, hey, this is set in 1989, how can I put Marty into this?
Thus this fic was born. It really only follows the basic concept and aesthetics of HLM, but still.
As a character: He’s kind of miserable and apathetic, though he doesn’t really realise it. He thinks things are going great. He fills the void in his heart with adrenaline and thrill and calls it joy. He feels satisfaction and calls it happiness.
He is outwardly offputting. His bandmates in his timeline got used to it but to everyone else the vibes are awful. Smile never reaches his eyes, seems kind of neutral all of the time. It makes you think maybe he’s severely depressed at first but then you hear the way he talks about people and things and you’re like oh… no… that’s not…
fic summary under cut (very long)
To summarise (the fic is 12k words so bear with me):
It is set after bttf3, where Doc, after leaving Marty and Jennifer at the tracks, goes straight to 2015 again to check on where Marty ends up. Make sure everything is okay.
This creates a timeline where Doc leaves and, as far as this iteration of Marty is concerned, does not return.
Believing Doc abandoned him and chose his new family over him, Marty gets a bit miserable. Jennifer, who is at this point extremely frightened by the life she saw in 2015 and not getting much in the way of reassurance from Marty, tells him Doc will probably be back and that he needs to knock it off or she’s going to leave. Marty continues to mope. Jennifer warns him a couple more times and then ultimately leaves him, probably shortly after they graduate.
This leaves Marty with no one to talk to about the fact that his family isn’t his family anymore, because he can’t exactly talk about that without getting shipped off to the nearest asylum.
Marty believes, well and truly, that he killed his old family. And the new ones? Well, they aren’t his.
He moves to LA with the Pinheads because if they think if they’re ever going to get anywhere with their music, it’ll be in the second largest city in the US.
They struggle for two years. Though the McFlys are decently well off in the Lone Pine timeline, Marty never reaches out to his parents for financial help. Partly out of shame, but mostly because they are not his parents and that feeling has only grown as he’s been away from them.
Money is very, very tight. The band plays much less than they used to because the time is better spent trying to keep the fridge stocked and the lights on.
The result of all this, Doc leaving, Jennifer leaving, the constant money and job struggle, is that Marty feels like his entire life has spiralled out of control. That loss of control is the integral characteristic that makes what happens next possible.
In 1987, Marty dies. To mimic the respawn mechanics of HLM, when Marty dies, he can reset time (up to an hour). The reason I give for this is flimsy, but something something he became the cause of his own existence so dying loops him or something. The mechanics of it don’t matter.
The fact that he can’t die, and a scene where one thing finally goes right, makes him feel in control of something for the first time in almost two years.
He becomes a hitman. How he gets the job isn’t important (though it is described in the fic). The first time he kills someone his reasoning is: he can’t die, money is tight and this pays well and they’d actually be able to eat, and he already killed his family, so this isn’t any different.
It is vastly different. He regrets it immediately.
But he keeps taking hits because he’s actually killed someone before, now, and with just the money from his first job, they’re no longer imminently going to be evicted and they can eat and the control feels good.
That reset ability becomes micromanagement. If something goes wrong, he kills himself to redo it. This started as something he did to make sure his hits went exactly right and make sure he never got caught. It turns into shaping reality around him as he pleases.
Time goes on. It’s all about control. The Pinheads start making it more, start doing better, now that they can actually practice and take gigs again.
And to fund this, a couple times a month, Marty commits a massacre.
Eventually, things happen, and during a hostage situation he just so happens to take Jennifer. It’s a small world. He kidnaps her after.
He tells her about his reset ability, but also makes the mistake of slipping that it only works for up to an hour. After being held captive for a few months, and her first attempt to leave ending in Lee’s death, she works around this hour limit to ensure her freedom.
Marty flees. A national manhunt for him begins. But he can’t be caught.
Doc, in 2015, sees that his beloved mentee/ son figure is wanted for murder and kidnapping and has been for nearly 30 years and is like HUH???
He plans to confront him, but sets up a contingency (a bit convoluted but does work kind of. details not really important), because he has the forethought to think if he brings the time train to this version of Marty, he might steal it. Which he does. Steal it, I mean.
Jacket!Marty (1989), in the time train with the intention of stopping himself from taking Jennifer a few months prior, gets sent to 1985 instead, where a Doc of 1985 is waiting because a future version of himself told him to?
There is a confrontation. 1985 Marty shows up, sees his future self shoot Doc, and decides then and there that he is never becoming that. This coupled with Doc deciding he needs to stick around means Jacket!Marty gets erased.
Aaaand that’s it. I tried to cut out as much as I could but there is just. so much.
Does he like hurting people? Depends on the definition of hurt. He likes inflicting damage on others, likes the feeling of the human body destroyed by his hands. But he doesn’t like when they cry or scream or otherwise get emotional because people’s emotions are so volatile and he gets very frustrated when trying to control them. They just never seem to do what he wants them to.
Everything about him is control. Massive control freak.
Its mcfly july!! ive done a little(rough) doodle for the first day , mountain dew hat guy! today's episode is marty vs cars part 85600000000💔i dont know why he is still allowed within 10 metres of a vehicle let alone a road but anyways... this was fun! as ive said before I cant draw men (especially men who aren't marty mcfly) so this is in my more simple style so I could focus on making him kinda recognisable. in every fic I read he gets hit by a car at least once so I came up with this(that sounds really bad omg) im hoping to use this mcfly july to get better at drawing marty so I hope yall understand if he looks a *little* bit different every day. everyone's stuff ive seen is SO good and creative! anyways i hope yall like it even though its quite simple (and different from my regular stuff) and happy mcfly july once again!!!!!💖
Hiii, its almost mcfly july!! hiii, kinda nervous to post this but here goes! its just some more on my frankenmarty au (what im calling it so far). I made it on milanote and its sorta js me messing around with some character details and less important aspects of his character i wanted to establish so I didn't forget.if yall want even more on this au ill post anything I make about it on here , I really wanna draw some of him and doc but I still cant draw him and have been trying to take some inspo from fellow bttf artists and will report back with results! for now tho im happy with how this turned out and if theres any aspects yall have more ideas on please let me know!!(also if there are any bits that dont make sense or would be cooler changed also say!) really loving this au and hope everyone else does to💗
finally ive got an actual drawing of marty that isn't a rough sketch on paper! I used a reference for the pose and made sure it covered most of his face(still trying to figure out how to draw men💔) but i think it turned out pretty good regardless. the little joints on his wrists have the flux capacitor outline on them aswell as (in my head) the stitches on his face would share the same shape.i know most versions of frankenstien dont have nearly his many cuts but i love drawing them and got a bit carried away😭I was kinda scared to post this au on here if im honest-I wasnt sure if people would like it cuz its really different from the og bttf overall. regardless i really enjoyed designing frankenmarty and hope you like him too!!! (he was ACTUALLY born yesterday and is one apple tall😔)
