Ghost - she/they - 20s - BNHA - Rooftop Gang - Erasermic - YetAnotherGhost on ao3 - Not Spoiler Safe - Yamada Hizashi deserves the world and nothing less ♡
Howdy. I’m Ghost. I write fic for BNHA, specifically Rooftop Gang and EraserMic, and I’m a certified Mic stan and proud Midnight simp.
More pertinently, I’ve finally written enough that I feel justified in making one of these for easy access, so without further ado:
Main Series
our little group has always been
My (mostly) canon compliant take on the Rooftop Gang friendship over the years. A collection of one-shots that share a timeline, but can be read independently of each other, and were in fact written as such.
Emphasis on EraserMic (platonic and/or romantic, depending on when the fic takes place) and MicNight friendship.
Manga spoilers galore. Expect a lot of feelings.

They wind up on the rooftop of Nemuri's apartment building, which is nice. Feels appropriate, even if it's just the two of them. Just her and Shirakumo.
Nemuri's never been all the way up here. The view of the skyline is kinda ass – too many buildings in the way – but the sky itself is not too bad at all. Pretty, even. A nice, deep shade of past-midnight blue. Starless, of course, this deep into the city, though with enough moons swimming through that vast depth to make up for it.
That last chug of Soju may have been a bad call.
Not that Nemuri's about to admit that. She is, however, about to throw up.
Or maybe not. Maybe she's good, actually. Yeah.
"I'm great," she informs Shirakumo.
"You sure are, senpai."
Nemuri giggles. That last chug of Soju was a great call. It's settled now that she's horizontal, lazing adrift on one of Shirakumo's clouds. She feels sweet with it. "This is why you're my favorite," she tells Shirakumo.
Somewhere beside her, Shirakumo laughs. "Liar," he says, light as the breeze blowing past their brick-and-concrete alcove. "Hizashi's your favorite."
He's not wrong, exactly; they're all her favorite. Yamada's just easy pickings, because he's all Yamada about everything. It's easy with Yamada.
Aizawa's easy, too, in a way. Sad, wet kitten that he is. She could just pick him up, put him in her pocket, poke at him until he bites. It's enrichment for him.
Shirakumo, though. She's not sure what to do about Shirakumo. Well. She knows what she wants to do about Shirakumo – or rather, with – and to – Shirakumo. She's just not so sure she should do it, because, you see, Shirakumo is an idiot, and too sweet by half, besides.
She's not about to say all that, though, no matter how sweet that Soju sits in her gut.
"Oh?" she says instead. "Are you jealous?"
"Not gonna lie," says Shirakumo, about to lie: "I'm a little jealous."
Nemuri snorts. "No, you're not." He wasn't jealous when she made out with Yamada right in front of his face earlier, and he's not jealous now.
"I did say 'a little.'" He laughs. A cloud materializes in the sky above his outstretched fingers; it splits into two cherubic halves, which go dancing around and around and around each other until Nemuri has to look away, or risk puking. "What can I say?” he adds. “I'm not really the jealous type."
See? An idiot.
"Everyone's the jealous type," Nemuri informs him, as if he needs it. "That's how people work." Even repressed little weirdos like Aizawa, and oblivious fools like Yamada. Those two deserve each other, really. Good for them.
"Does that mean you're the jealous type?" Shirakumo says. He's teasing, but the joke's on him.
"Oh, yeah," Nemuri returns easily, "I'm a monster."
Shirakumo splutters; his two waltzing clouds burst apart into the atmosphere. "No, you're not!" he laughs, aghast.
She turns on her side to look at him, and notices, for the first time, that they're sharing the same cloud, and are so close she can't even look him in the eye properly. She looks at his nose, instead, and at that stupid little bandage he always has plastered on the bridge of it, and she reaches out and pinches it, lightly, between a thumb and a forefinger. "I'm the most toxic bitch in town, honey."
"You know what, senpai?" he says, and he gets up on an elbow, and he looks at her with those eyes of his – bluer and clearer than any morning she's ever known. "I don't believe that."
"Well, that's because you're an idiot," she coos, and pinches his cheek. Then she turns her back to him, leans over the side of their cloud, and hurls. The Soju is nowhere near as sweet coming out as it was going in.
Oooh, this looks fun! Thanks @plusultraetc for tagging me!
-- How many works do you have on AO3?
16. Huh. Didn’t think it was that many tbh. Yay me? :D
-- What's your total AO3 word count?
97,793! Almost 100k! Yipee!
Fun Fact: Before my latest fic, it was at a nice, very satisfying 88,888. I’d like to say that’s why it took me over a year to upload another fic, but well. I’d be lying lolol.
-- What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
a definite sign of what we will be (someday)
be my fictional obsession (my newest daydream)
you know i make you wanna scream
like sugar and cyanide
like heaving through corrupted lungs (‼)
(^ Didn’t think she’d make the cut! Proud of her!!)
-- Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I love responding to comments!! It’s a wonderful excuse to ramble about my writing and share my thoughts about my beloved blorbos with like-minded souls. Unfortunately, I am. Shy. I’m usually good at responding when a fic first drops because the sheer adrenaline/euphoria of finally posting something propels me out of my shell, but once that wears out. Help.
I do read and cherish every single comment I receive tho - and I’m very lucky to receive such thoughtful comments, too! Just know that if you’ve ever commented on any of my fic – ily <33
-- What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
Uh. All of them? Aldkjfskfj okay, that’s a lie, but tbh it’d be easier to point at the ones that don’t have kinda bummer endings. I love me some angst. :3
The title for Angstiest def has to go to ‘friend make sense of me’ tho. Yowch.
-- What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
Oh, ‘be my fictional obsession’ for sure. Although ‘strawberry soju' is a strong contender, ultimately ‘bmfo’ is simply Sillier, so she takes the crown. :3
-- Do you write crossovers?
Not really! Though I have toyed around with writing AUs in other settings, the most recent of which is a BBC Merlin AU, which, let me tell you, has been tons of fun, even if I’ll probably never get around to finishing it lol.
-- Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I was about to say no because everyone has always been so lovely to me, but then I remembered that one person who bookmarked ‘like sugar and cyanide’ only to call it ‘lame’ for being self-indulgent and not ending with EraserMic getting together. Which was kinda funny ngl, because, like, my guy. The Unresolved Romantic Tension is right there in the tags, and also I repeatedly dunk on myself for being self-indulgent in just about every chapter note, so like, move along, sister, this is not the fic you’re looking for lmaoo.
-- Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope! Love me some innuendo and crass humor, but the most I ever see myself doing is a fade to black or maybe some vague allusion to the act (← see, I just did it), because it is simply not my cup of tea.
-- Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope, but I’d be open to it for sure!
-- Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Another no, though I’m not sure I’d be a good fit for it tbh. I’m a bit precious about my writing process. 😅
-- What's your all-time favorite ship?
Oh god, this is a Question. I mean, I have to say EraserMic given how much of my (fan) life it has consumed these past years, even if I do have some complicated, and at times contentious, thoughts and feelings about it.
QPR MicNight is right up there, though! I have just as complex and much less contentious feelings about QPR MicNight, my beloved. <3
I have so many QPR MicNight WIPs, you guys. One of these days, I’ll even finish one. orz
-- What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
CRIES. ALL OF THEM.
Okay, non-dramatic answer is ‘as the mists roll in at midnight,’ which is a WIP I started and finished outlining back in 2021 (it even got a title!) and then never got past the second chapter.
It’s a sort of house horror AU, featuring EraserMic, QPR MicNight, unexplained happenings in the woods, and a haunted inn that just wants to keep you safe. I love it so so much that I kind of got overwhelmed by my love for it, and thus my need for it to be perfect, and now I fear I shall never get back to it. </3
The same is true for so many of my WIPs, if I’m being honest. Shout out to Midnight Time Loop AU, ‘a song for a song,’ and ‘you know i make you wanna scream,’ the latter of which is the reason I no longer post multi-chap WIPs. rip.
-- What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue and narrative voice. I get so many niceys comments on both, especially my narrative voice for Mic, which makes my heart do a happy dance every time. :)
-- What are your writing weaknesses?
Establishing and describing setting, unfortunately. The struggle to not end up with characters talking and introspecting in The Void all the time is real. OTL
Also there's the more technical stuff like my abuse of adverbs, em-dashes, and run-on sentences, as well as my point-blank refusal to kill my darlings at times, but I like to chalk all that up to Style, Vibes, and This Hobby is Supposed to Be Fun, Damnit, so we don't count any of that. :3
-- What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
No strong thoughts in particular, just the usual 'as long as it's done well' caveat. Though I do like when honorifics and such are sprinkled in here and there, hence why I tend to do so in my fic. I find it serves as a helpful reminder that these characters are Japanese, and thus hopefully helps to stave off some of that dreaded, inevitable Americanization of everything.
-- What was the first fandom you wrote for?
BNHA, which, let me tell you, came as a surprise not just to me, but also to anyone who knows me irl. I was famously Not Very Much Into Anime for most of my life. Go figure.
-- What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
BBC Merlin!
I watched (and was obsessed with) the show way back when, but have only recently gotten into the fandom, and good GOD has it been a struggle to not hop right in to writing fic for it, especially for Gwen/Morgana, my beloved toxic yuri queens. Only reason I haven’t is because I’m loathe to add to my already heaping WIP pile.
-- What's your favorite fic you've written?
Oof, this is a hard one.
‘strawberry soju’ has my heart right now because it felt like such a different undertaking than most of my previous work (it’s a 9k, non-linear, Aizawa POV one-shot! There’s actual kissing in it!) and also because I learned a lot while working on it. I didn’t have a real outline when I started writing, only a premise, one or two strong images of interactions I wanted to include, and several themes I wanted to touch on. It was a struggle working with such bare bones at times, but I'm glad I kept at it, because I'm proud of how much of the core themes and concepts came through in the final result.
However. If I’m being honest, my real answer to this question is the fic I wrote for Something Just Like This, an EraserMic zine I contributed to that is currently in production. I wrote that fic back in February, and it’s been absolute hell not being able to share it this whole time because I’m just so goddamn proud of it!! I won’t say anything else because I could go on forever about it and I’m contractually obligated to not spill the beans, but GOD I can’t wait for you all to read it. 🥺

Okay, that's enough yapping for now, but this was so much fun!! Thanks again for tagging me! <3

Summary:
In the end, it's Yamada's painfully obvious and just as grating attempts to spare Shouta some mild embarrassment that makes Shouta abandon all sense of logic and agree to just play the stupid game. There are worse fates to endure than being patronized, Shouta's sure, but if there are, he's having trouble imagining them in the face of Yamada freestyle rapping for fifteen straight minutes to a chorus of increasingly heartfelt boos from the other two idiots.
And so Shouta finds himself watching Yamada and Kayama suck face for the third time this evening. That's certainly a worse fate, Shouta decides, all the more so because he should have seen it coming.
They're playing spin the bottle, after all.

Rooftop Gang plays spin the bottle. Need I say more?
what do u think of traitor!mic 🫶 i honestly was confused abt it when i realized how popular it was relatively speaking … there was a lot of it from like? 2020-2021?!?! i wanted to know ur take on him ദ്ദി ( ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ )
BESTIE YOU ARE ALWAYS ASKING THE DIFFICULT QUESTIONS. OKAY LET'S TALK ABOUT TRAITOR MIC.
The long & short of it is that I SEE the vision but unfortunately, he's just not for me 😭 That isn’t to say I’m not interested in other people’s takes on him (and am super open to post/fic/art recs if anyone has any; I recently saw this piece and had a full-body flinch reaction when I Realized. Like. OMG). I just have like. Zero thoughts of my own lol, because traitor!Mic is conceptually so opposed to my understanding of the character that I can’t quite au about it.
(Before I get into my longwinded nonsense, let me just add that we should have known Mic wasn't the traitor from the very start because if he had been the League of Villains would have been way more successful lmao)
So full disclosure, when I watched the first few seasons of MHA a couple years ago, I heard there was a traitor at UA and the first thing I blurted out was 'IT'S PRESENT MIC.' I honestly am not sure why I thought so at the time, other than the fact that he seemed like an incredibly unlikely candidate, and therefore was Very Suspicious to me lol. Like, I don't even think I knew he was the one who proposed the traitor theory--if I had, it would have been so over for him. I would have been convinced he was the traitor & trying to throw people off his scent maybe for the rest of my life. In reality I probably just thought he was too loud and goofy and therefore must be hiding something (what he was hiding was a tragic backstory, whoops!) But anyway I was actually really surprised when I learned traitor!Mic had become such a prevalent theory!
In many ways, I can totally see why. Mic makes a good candidate for a traitor! He's smart, he has reasons to be dissatisfied with the pro hero status quo, and as we learn, he has very distinct public and private personas--one of which is radio DJ Present Mic, and the other is really, really angry.
THAT BEING SAID. Looking back on it, I feel like the more we learned about Mic, the more the traitor theory kind of... falls apart. I almost feel like he's Too Angry under all that leather and hairspray to be a spy for the League. For example, if I was trying to stay under the radar as a villain spy, I wouldn't turn to the guy next to me and be like ‘HEY let's beat these civilian reporters up for trespassing ♥’
Mic has every reason to be angry. He lost a close friend in a villain attack at a young age, watched the toll his death took on his friends and family even while processing (or failing to process) his own grief, and later had to confront the reality of what really happened to Shirakumo--how intentional and therefore avoidable it was--as the world was falling apart around him. I’ve talked a little bit on this blog about my many Big Sad Feelings about the ‘middle generation’ of pro heroes between All Might and the up-and-coming UA students, but more than anyone else, I think the UA teachers are a very conflicted group. It’s like… not quite ‘former child soldiers raising current child soldiers,’ but a similar concept, especially for characters like Mic, Aizawa, and Midnight, who had such a traumatic experience during their own years at UA. Now they are very much responsible for the children they are going to *checks notes* send into the same, and in some cases even more, dangerous situations that chewed them up and spat them out as teenagers. Very healthy, very mindful.
So Mic does have reasons to be disillusioned, but the thing is, he very actively participates in an often-hypocritical pro hero society. (This is not a criticism of him btw; many characters in the series do, and it’s often what makes them interesting!) Something that’s come up in book club is the fact that Present Mic is a public figure with a platform of his own and absolutely no problem loudly critiquing other heroes and even students, but he like. Really Hates the media. It’s almost funny how much he dislikes them. This is as good a reason as any that traitor!Mic should have been a hard sell, because his feelings about the media are directly opposed to those of the early League of Villains--ie, the iteration of the League when the traitor’s intel would have been at its most valuable. The early League loves the media; they want to use them to sensationalize and legitimize their message. Present Mic, meanwhile, uses his incredibly limited screentime to quite literally get in their way. He could have 100% made better use of his platform & connection to the press to aid the League.
I did try to approach this question from a non-erasermic lens, but I feel I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about Aizawa at all for two reasons: 1) unfortunately, Mic is a side character. He doesn’t have THAT many appearances throughout the series, and most of the time, he appears with or somehow-relating-to Aizawa, and 2) you can’t talk about a traitor without talking about who they’re betraying. And honestly, I just can't see him betraying Aizawa--not after everything they've been through together, not after weathering Aizawa's darkest years, and not now, when All Might's imminent retirement (that the UA faculty is aware of in advance) means that big changes are looming on the horizon for all pro heroes. Mic himself acknowledges that the age of All Might has made them complacent--he knows that the end of the Symbol of Peace spells trouble, and that current pros are largely unequipped for a world without All Might. He has a tendency to prioritize others, especially Aizawa and those he cares about, above himself, and right now would be the very worst time to sell All Might/UA/etc out to the League.
And then of course there's the obvious: he really is just. Very kind. We don't get nearly enough Present Mic throughout the series, but what we do get tells us that he's supportive, protective, somewhat-sassy and Doing His Best. Like yeah, he roasts the other characters literally every chance he gets, and he can def be judgmental, but when it counts (when Uraraka was feeling guilty that Midoriya stayed behind to rescue her during the Entrance Exam, when Bakugou and Todoroki needed someone to supervise their remedial training, when Ms. Ikoma became overwhelmed by her students' admittedly poor behavior), he steps up for the people around him. Idk he's just a really solid hero. This is my formal apology to Present Mic for suspecting him in like 2018 or whenever it was.
THANK YOU FOR OPENING UP THIS CAN OF WORMS, do you have any thoughts on traitor!Mic? Any recommendations? Does anyone? 👀
bnha soulmate bodyswap AU where your Switch happens if you are apart from your soulmate in your hour of most desperate need, which is why Mic goes from teaching English class to experiencing having his face slammed into some pavement by a noumu
this is how Eraser learns both that no matter how hard he tries he isn’t going to be able to force himself to fall out of love with Mic even if it’s for his ostensible own good and, more germanely to the situation, just how hard Mic works to keep his Quirk under control
specifically he realizes he’s in Mic’s body, grabs his phone, calls Nezu, and destroys the phone immediately the instant he tries to talk
then he runs down the hall to Nezu’s office, opens the door, and gets two syllables into his first sentence before he shatters Nezu’s windows and his second-favorite teakettle
Nezu at this point has realized that something fucky is going on, because Mic doesn’t do this—he doesn’t lose control like this, yes, but even more than that, Mic doesn’t let himself get agitated.
