Sometimes I feel like people kinda… don't understand Izaya’s whole thing with meeting up with suicidal people. It seems like some people think he wants those people to commit suicide or that he is directly leading them to do it, and that's just simply not the case?
Izaya loves humans. He doesn't want them to die. But he knows death is inevitable and he also knows that people who want to die do actually exist. Izaya meets with these people specifically so that he can understand them better. He wants to understand what drives the average person to the point where they would want to take their own life.
But for Izaya, none of the reasons people give him seem “good enough” to him. Not to mention their beliefs in an afterlife that will somehow be better than life on earth also doesn't seem logical in his opinion. But still, in the end the purpose is to understand the why behind it. He isn't intentionally torturing these people. He is trying to connect with and understand them. Is he doing it in a way that's sunshine and butterflies and that I approve of? NO! (<- girl who can't believe she has to say that in the middle of this post).
Anyway, everyone likes to talk about the people that jumped after he spoke to them, but nobody seems to want to talk about the ones that didn't. Manami being one that gets a name later on, and Rio being another, tho only in the anime (yes I know she technically jumped, but he knew Celty was there and would catch her, and she did end up turning things around after).
What I'm saying is we don't know how many actually went through with it, but we do know for a fact that some ended up changing their minds after talking to him and I think that's worth something. What is it worth? I dunno. Maybe a consideration that Izaya is actually a neutral character and not an evil mastermind. He's neutral. Not all good. Not all bad. And I think that's special.
Are you gonna dance on the line with me?
You know it's not a game or a fantasy
And I don't even know who I used to be
But nothing is the same and some things have to change now
sorry. he’s cute though right?
