âWell when you put it like that â how is anyone supposed to be enjoying their time here if they think that the entire boat might sink beneath their feet? Itâs times like these where I wish I had wings and could fly away,â she spoke softly, eyes averted so that neither he nor anyone could tell how true her words rang as she composed herself and settled back into a demure smile when she glanced back. âI havenât been on many boats, thatâs all.â It wasnât a lie, but it wasnât the exact reason why she was so jumpy at being touched when she wasnât expecting it as she nodded. âIs that so? I could have guessed that you were simply self serving like everyone else on the boat â not meaning that as a knock against you, itâs something that helps me survive too.â She shrugged but accepted the otherâs offer even though she was certain that she already had a cabin all to herself thanks to Wren. âWhat are friends for if not to help each other? Iâm already behind on schedule for getting drunk on this boat and could use the help.â

âOr maybe thatâs a reason to make sure you enjoy your time. Any minute could be our last, after all. We could be the next Titanic.â he mused, his old ways of thinking starting to creep back in as the stability he had fought hard for had been disturbed by all the events lately. He liked to consider it positive nihilism. Nothing mattered so why not? Why not have fun? Why not party as if every night could be your last? Why not tell that person you love them regardless of the consequences (couldnât be him but, others could)?  âYouâll get your sea legs eventually,â he hummed, unsure if her words were true, but figuring it not his place to push. He looked around as they moved up in line, drawing ever closer to the front check in desk and his ultimate goal.  âWell, Iâm that too, so no offense taken. Itâs the only way Iâve made it this far in life.â It was a bit sad considering âthis farâ wasnât much, but hey, heâd take where he was in life, he didnât mind it, nor was he ashamed of it.  âA schedule, huh? And what exactly does that schedule look like? Is it like 1 PM-Tequila, 2 PM-Vodka, or are we talking time correlated to level of drunkness?â
who: @domromeroâ where: golden lion tavern
âYou know, you never did get to show me what you consider âfun and excitingâ,â he hummed as he put her drink down in front of her, referencing their shouted conversation over thumping music on the river boat, when she had dissed his fun on the dance floor, insisting it wasnât her type of fun. He wasnât sure when his idea of a wild night had turned into a couple drinks and dancing, when it used to be something along the lines of what he assumed Dom had in mind, but he was trying to get back to that, back to that person. He wanted to see if he was truly in a rut, or if he had just changed.
Hello Mr. Biceps
who: @gvldntrblâ ( olivier benoit. ) where: crowded bar in the dark world
Egan was trying to get back into the habit of going out. He hadnât realized it, but he had fallen into a rut; home, work, home, work. It was like he was always in bed, either with a client in one of the brothelâs or in his own by himself. Before, you had to pay him to say anything other than yes. He had been spontaneous, always willing to try anything or see anyone or do whatever.  âWant to go out?â yes.  âDo you wanna try that?â of course.  âLetâs go here.â hell yeah. But lately he found himself shrugging invitations off, coming up with excuses, until slowly the invitations stopped coming at all. All that being said, he was determined to climb his way out of that rut, one finger at a time if he had to, which is how he found himself in a bar that was much too crowded for his taste after a long day of work, but determined to enjoy it nonetheless.
As he spotted a familiar face he couldnât help but sidle up to them.  âIâm taking offense to the fact I havenât seen you in awhile. Iâve been taking iron supplements for no damn reason, apparently. Maybe you should make it up to me with a drink.â

âItâs fine, itâs okay.â Her body had reacted without thought or even giving her a chance to catch on to the otherâs movements before it was too long and they pulled away immediately. Lark shuddered slightly, trying to focus on her fingers that had already dug into the palms of her hands out of the sheer fear that had frozen her into place. It wasnât fair. She should have been fine, believing that nothing was going to happen again after the Dark World, but it was taking much longer to convince herself of that than anyone else. âItâs not your fault. Iâve been a bit â jumpier than usual but Iâll get a handle on it soon enough,â she muttered, as if she could solve all her problems as soon as she got a hold of her dealer on the boat. Lark smirked, a bit sharper than her normal smile as she shook her head. âThatâs only because you know that youâd lose this time. But as long as youâre willing to share, then I canât complain this time.â

âThat makes zero sense, â he started, hoping his tone came off sarcastic enough to make it obvious he was being facetious, âItâs not like our world is dropping into chaos and every day there seems to be something new and scary going on. Why should you be jumpy?â Living in the Dark World he was already always on edge, the Uprising and whatever they were planning, always a constant thrum in the underbelly of their realm. And then on top of that, there had been the Hydra attack, and then the kidnappings, and even most recently, the slaughter of the Kings Hill rulers. It all seemed to be coming at a fast and furious speed, no time to recoup that sense of safety before it was being ripped away again.
âOr itâs because Iâm a generous soul who is in a mood for giving. That and, a firm believer in quid pro quo. You help me not have to sleep in a double, and I provide the opportunity to get smashed.â
theartofrulingâ:
When he made the gagging face, she almost elbowed him before he covered it with a laugh instead. She was now committed to the con, her motivation was getting over on someone to get Egan what he wanted. It was a challenge that sheâd now greatly accepted. âThey are, but youâll find out when we move up in this line. I plan to lay one on you so well youâll be breathless, and the receptionist has no choice but to give you the best damn room they have. Now if they fuck up and I lose my room for this, youâre getting a roommate.âÂ
âSo you draw the line at arresting? Most of the things I do can get me arrested. I just send word to Finnian. Heâs my get out of jail free card. He can be yours too if our next con gets us into too much trouble.â Robin chuckled then. âSo once we get these keys, we celebrate with getting drunk and comparing asses? Sounds like a good night to me.âÂ

Years and years of growing up with a house full of rowdy and sometimes troubled children had taught him to anticipate, and he was ready to dodge what he thought might be a swat or an elbow, but it seemed he had either read her wrong or she decided to abort last minute.  âAlright, but donât go falling in love with me once you plant one on me, because iâve been told my lips are magic.--There are definitely worse roommates to have, that is so long as I get the bed. I have a very delicate constitution, I donât think I could take a night on the couch.â That was a lie, he had slept on benches, on the ground, but she didnât need to know that. If he really wanted he could shift and be perfectly happy on the floor. Â
âMust be nice to have the Master of Mayhem in your back pocket.â He scoffed. Although, to be fair, he was fairly sure he could always use his one free call to Skai, and might have similar results. Although, he isnât sure if she would ever let him live it down. So it might just be worth staying in jail.  âSounds like an average Thursday night for me.â
theartofrulingâ:
Jackson burst into laughter. âWell, I know one of them isnât too fond of the Dark World. I canât speak for all the others though, but I think you might be safe.â He grinned as the other attempted to guess what heâd done. âYou know, I think it was two things. Because I definitely didnât leave and Iâm always a good lay. Iâm too much of a perfectionist not to be. But I believe it was because I was human and I had no real title. My only saving grace was that I was the son of Count and Countess. But until I became a vampire even my claim of being an heir meant nothing. Vampires live long lives, and who knows how long it would have taken my parents to die or step down.â Though they were dead now, so not that long at all. Jacksonâs eyes widened. âYou can only judge by trying them all. But I feel like youâll be fine. Even if you ended up with a bowl from Lady Esther over there. Sheâs known for overcooking. So If you had some that tasted a little too well done, just know Lady Estherâs chili is the culprit.â Heâd been every year, he knew which contestants could and couldnât cook at this rate.Â

Eganâs eyes widened at the onslaught of information from the stranger, nodding his head the entire time, digesting it all. He was fairly used to it, heâd say at least three quarters of his own clients had the tendency to tell him about their lives, hell, with some thatâs all they did. âGood thing yâall live long lives, because I have the feeling you have way too many experiences to have been packed into one mortal one,â Egan chuckled, the chili gone from his hand, but now occupied by a bottle of beer which he brought up to his lips. âOkay, but cut Lady Esther some slack, itâs better to be over than undercooked, at least in my experience.â Â
Iâm a dirt person. I trust the dirt. I donât trust diamonds and gold.

âAn amateur scammer who doesnât think his scams through. Iâm losing confidence in you by the second.â Ciara muttered under her breath, arching her brows as she glanced up at him but his response made her grin, which was likely for the best given they were still trying to pass off as a couple. âWell, if youâre going to be divorcing me, you should probably know my name.â Her grin stretched wider before she made a point of averting her gaze, flickering between the floor and the employee. âCiara.â His plan of plopping her on the couch coaxed a rough chuckle from her, probably a tad too loud but then again, laughter wouldnât exactly jeopardize what they were trying to pull off â it wasnât like the employee they were trying to convince could read Ciaraâs mind and gather that she wouldnât hesitate to leave him cold and with nothing more than a corner of the bed if she had her way. âAlright, you happen to have those divorce papers with you now? âCause Iâm ready to sign them.â She retorted with a twinkle of amusement in her eyes. âScamming the rich. Now that I can get behind.â The redhead chuckled again. âDark World Realm Firewater for your own half of the bed, and I wonât wake up on the couch.â She mulled it over, or pretended to anyway for the sake of it; truth was she was neither picky nor did she mind the company. âYouâve got yourself a deal.â
-
âWhat I lack in planning, I make up for in other assets, donât you worry,â He shot back cockily, more than confident that regardless of the situation, if need-be he could call upon the skills he had honed in his profession and get himself what he wanted. Although, now that she mentioned it, Egan started to think of the ramifications of his plan. While he doubted the employees would even notice, probably much too busy taking care of the massive influx of people, he did wonder just how hawk-eyed they were. Would they notice, this so-called couple galavanting around the ship completely separated, acting as if they had no partner? He wasnât sure. And what was the worse they could do? Kick âem back down to a single, double bed?  âIt would make the proceedings go a lot faster, thatâs for damn sure,â he chuckled, having to bat down the instinct to offer his hand to shake.  âEgan.â he replied with his own. HIs eyes flicked to his partner in crime and back to the looming front desk, with only a person ahead of them now. âGood, because I donât think I could stay married to a person who didnât believe in radical wealth redistribution.â His words were said with a serious tone but betrayed by the small smile tugging on his lips, glad that at least the person heâd have to share a room with due to his failure of plan was at least easy to talk to. âAnd no hogging the blankets, then thatâs a deal.â Â
