Long read that is both unsolicited and can be ignored. This would probably be my first and last post about Resident Evil. I wanna start with I am not really an avid fan of this franchise, nor am I entirely knowledgeable of these characters. They've been coming up in my FYP since RE9's release, and my friends talk about them; I've been mostly reading the analysis and all that of the ships as entertainment.
What interested me the most was probably the ship wars, I'm surprised it exists for a game like Resident Evil, which to my knowledge at that time was a survival horror game. As someone who has been chronically online and had been in the trenches of anime ship wars, the fake conversations and misinformation are common in these types of arguments it can be appalling. Some go as far as doxxing authors, and that's why most prefer not to even show their faces in interviews. I feel empathetic to those who have to tell people,'If they don't ship it, just scroll it isn't for you', and the said person doesn't do it and just hates it. I've been there done that, hahaha.
At the end of the day, I hope you don't feel discouraged in shipping who you want as long as it hurts no one. Your ship doesn't have to be canon to be valid. No one really "wins" anything in these things besides bragging rights. Not even canon can stop you from shipping your favorite characters. It's all meant for fun. I have shipped rarepairs, crack ships, and two characters, not even in the same universe. That is the beauty of creativity.
I think between the two popular ships going around, the reason that Cleon struck me more was because it is a dynamic I like and prefer, and I also know not everyone will agree with it. I mean, that part is obvious as I read the fighting and discourse. This ship just pandered to my tastes, and that's what ships also are they pander to you, and you should not hate on anyone who thinks differently. Between the two sides, I also found the shippers for Cleon to be getting the most hate even when the other ship is not mentioned, and I just go: :D????
It just baffles me that shipping culture is still not mainstream. The most important rule in shipping is that if you don't ship, dont interact with it. Anyway, I'm just rambling at this point.
I like to take the ORV approach with creativity. It is one of my favorite works and a love letter to an entire audience. That the story is in your hands, that what you do with your favorite franchises and characters gain meaning and they need you to thrive. The ship is as real and valid as you make it be.
Please accept this sketch as an offering for reading my rambles and unsolicited two cents.
I honestly love characters like Diana 😭 she's so pretty too
I'm also a victim of his shallow emotions, for they bought me pain
