Get to Know Anthony
What's a good way to get to know yourself?Â
Recently I've started to keep a notebook and pen next to my head. After I've turned out all of the lights (which requires me to get up out of bed), I lie down with my eyes closed and my brain goes off. There are so many thoughts and in order to capture them, I've resorted to using the light from my digital alarm clock to give me enough light to record these thoughts on paper.Â
It's kinda cool cause you start reading backwards and you get to know who you are when you're in my opinion, at your weakest/most vulnerable. They say you can lie to yourself but that takes a lot of effort, effort you'll have no time to spend before you're asleep!
So get to know yourself, keep a paper next to your head and write down your thoughts as you sink into sleep. You'll be surprised at how strange, enlightening, and slightly weird those thoughts can be (some are just dreamlike.... flying cars and stuff)

"What do I hold on to so tightly that I say without it, I won't be able to survive?"
A good question. There are a lot of things that I'm holding on to so tightly that I would not be able to do without (so I say). See Previous post if you want to know what I'm thinking about.
Continuous Conversion 12282013 . . . unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven —Matthew 18:3 These words of our Lord refer to our initial conversion, but we should continue to turn to God as children, being continuously converted every day of our lives. If we trust in our own abilities, instead of God’s, we produce consequences for which God will hold us responsible. When God through His sovereignty brings us into new situations, we should immediately make sure that our natural life submits to the spiritual, obeying the orders of the Spirit of God. Just because we have responded properly in the past is no guarantee that we will do so again. The response of the natural to the spiritual should be continuous conversion, but this is where we so often refuse to be obedient. No matter what our situation is, the Spirit of God remains unchanged and His salvation unaltered. But we must “put on the new man . . .” (Ephesians 4:24). God holds us accountable every time we refuse to convert ourselves, and He sees our refusal as willful disobedience. Our natural life must not rule— God must rule in us. To refuse to be continuously converted puts a stumbling block in the growth of our spiritual life. There are areas of self-will in our lives where our pride pours contempt on the throne of God and says, “I won’t submit.” We deify our independence and self-will and call them by the wrong name. What God sees as stubborn weakness, we call strength. There are whole areas of our lives that have not yet been brought into submission, and this can only be done by this continuous conversion. Slowly but surely we can claim the whole territory for the Spirit of God.

Oh the Loneliness
Dealing with loneliness this week as a theme.Â
But today I went outside and saw a scene of orange light, empty streets, and big fat snowflakes falling down from above. It was so beautiful and I couldn't help but see it like a love letter from God. What a scene!
Lead singer Jon Foreman was asked if Switchfoot is a "Christian" band. His response is worth pondering."To be honest, this question grieves me because I feel that it represents a much bigger issue ...
The Things That Should Really Be On Our Bucket List
Another cool repost from a blog my buddy shared. Hope this sparks some internal conversation!

Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters . . . , so our eyes look to the Lord our God . . . —Psalm 123:2
This verse is a description of total reliance on God. Just as the eyes of a servant are riveted on his master, our eyes should be directed to and focused on God. This is how knowledge of His countenance is gained and how God reveals Himself to us (seeIsaiah 53:1). Our spiritual strength begins to be drained when we stop lifting our eyes to Him. Our stamina is sapped, not so much through external troubles surrounding us but through problems in our thinking. We wrongfully think, “I suppose I’ve been stretching myself a little too much, standing too tall and trying to look like God instead of being an ordinary humble person.” We have to realize that no effort can be too high.
For example, you came to a crisis in your life, took a stand for God, and even had the witness of the Spirit as a confirmation that what you did was right. But now, maybe weeks or years have gone by, and you are slowly coming to the conclusion— “Well, maybe what I did showed too much pride or was superficial. Was I taking a stand a bit too high for me?” Your “rational” friends come and say, “Don’t be silly. We knew when you first talked about this spiritual awakening that it was a passing impulse, that you couldn’t hold up under the strain. And anyway, God doesn’t expect you to endure.” You respond by saying, “Well, I suppose I was expecting too much.” That sounds humble to say, but it means that your reliance on God is gone, and you are now relying on worldly opinion. The danger comes when, no longer relying on God, you neglect to focus your eyes on Him. Only when God brings you to a sudden stop will you realize that you have been the loser. Whenever there is a spiritual drain in your life, correct it immediately. Realize that something has been coming between you and God, and change or remove it at once.
I Surrender
It's that moment when you're worshipping Jesus and nothing else in this world matters. That's powerful.Â
Something my friend posted, not the first time I've heard of the "sexy Christian".Â
Interesting article :)
Tomorrow is my 10 year wedding anniversary.  10 years is an important anniversary for any couple, but doubly so for us as just a few years ago, I was terrified that we would not make it this far.  ...
This is something my friend posted on FB. Interesting article !
Because This Blog Should Be Fun To Read.
So trying to describe to my friend about how eating at Chipotle four days a week has given me some extra padding around the body area, I came up with this line to describe it:
"...[love] handles and all, folds like paper"
Mhm. Y'all probably didn't need to know that. Time to go back to being a physically active human.Â
I Love You, You Love Me
So a good friend of mine texted me randomly, he said "I love Jesus". Just a single sentence, a really simple sentence. But I didn't really know how to respond. Like those shows where a guy confesses his love for the girl and she says "thank you", I didn't know if I could say it back.Â
It was a pretty weird feeling to be held back from returning the sentiment, "I love Jesus too". But it got me and my buddy chatting. This line of thought eventually ran down into a couple points:
1. We (as a general Christian public) like to sing about how much He loves us and about what He's done for us.Â
2. We like to sing about how much we love Him.Â
3. My life would look a lot different if I really did love Him.
4. By God's grace my life WILL look different.Â
So it's a really interesting thing. Caught me totally off guard. I hope that I will be able to say that "I love Jesus too" next time he texts me that.Â
Self-pity is of the devil, and if I wallow in it I cannot be used by God for His purpose in the world. Doing this creates for me my own cozy “world within the world,” and God will not be allowed to move me from it because of my fear of being “frost-bitten.”
