With Christmas just around the corner many of the independent soup kitchen groups are running Christmas appeals. The appeals vary from group to group but mainly the are asking for donations of shoe boxes full of useful items for the homeless community. Toiletries, gloves, scarfs, hats, socks, underwear, face wipes, snacks, blankets, sleeping bags, ground mats, t-shirts, bags and back packs are all vital.
Several of the groups are holding a special Christmas meal night where they are providing special festive food for the homeless community and giving out gifts and shoe boxes or packages received from their appeals. Read on below to see a selection of the appeals being ran by the various groups.
Hope in the Darkness are holding their Christmas Dinner on Thursday 21st of December at 8pm at the GPO. They will be cooking turkey & hams that have been very kindly donated by the Bridge Butchers on Cardifsbridge Road.
They are appealing for donations of vouchers in order to be able to pass these on to homeless families who are living in hotels & BnB’s over the Christmas. As with a lot of emergency and temporary accommodation families are asked to leave their rooms early n the morning and not return until later in the night. Cinema, restaurant or One For All Vouchers would go a long way to helping these families and prevent them from walking the streets all day in the cold.
If you would like to donate a voucher to Hope In The Darkeness you can drop them into their table at the GPO on Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday nights or contact them through their Facebook page for postal address.
