“One day, near the administration and registration statistics in Tehran, I found a pile of discarded omissions, full trash cans. All were women born in the early 1940s, which were photographed in their youth. The astonishing variety of hairstyles - only a minority of wearing a headscarf or veil - reflects the variety of options that worn by women in the late 1950s and 60s. One can see a variety of classes and individual women of that time, shy and modest, up, confident and glamorous. When I found these photos somewhere in 2005, I wondered if these women are alive died, emigrated or prolonged passes. It seemed to me that the government is likely to destroy the evidence of our recent and distant past, women in these photos are opposed to the current dominant culture.
