“You’ve seemed kind of freaked out recently. Almost as scared as me when I’d crashed my car when I was seventeen,” which had been very, very scared.

Confused by the text, and surprised that Lilly would waste a phone’s battery life at a time like this, Mark went and knocked at the door to her room before quietly letting himself in, “Hey uh, Lilly? Did you just tell me to go and get...”

The words formed slowly on the board, as he wasn’t entirely sure as to what he ought to say to her. He didn’t know if she’d thought of him much, or if this had merely been a spur-of-the-moment idea…

Ash looked down at the board with wide eyes. It had been a little over a month since he’d passed away, but Ash found she missed the soldier. So while cleaning out a room, she’d happened upon the ouija board and decided to take it for a spin. 

imagine her surprise. 

“ Mark…” She asked, frowning at the board. “ is that you?”

“Of course it’s me! Who the heck else would it be?!” He asked aloud, before realizing that she probably couldn’t hear him... Maybe there was a way to be heard, or seen, but he wasn’t sure. So he moved the board’s piece over to ‘YES.’

He could still hear the others yelling and shouting outside, but he did his best to simply ignore them. He wasn’t the leader, and the last thing that he wanted to was get bad with Lilly or Kenny–it seemed like a death wish to have either one of them pissed off.

When David mentioned college he chuckled faintly, “No, actually,” he said simply, “in fact, I’ve gotten used to eating once a day, if that. I’m a whole new man, David.” He wasn’t lying, but he wasn’t speaking all that seriously, either.

“It’s been tough,” he said with a shrug, “I guess I’ve gotten used to living this way, is all.” A crappy type of normal, but at least it was normal. He paused, looking David over quietly, wanting to think of something else to say.. “Been a while.”

Perhaps if Mark were to admit he had missed David, and the yelling outside of the molded walls stopped, David wouldn’t feel as anxious as he did. The events prior to their reuniting had shaken the man quite deeply, and it did not take much to see that. “It…it has been a long time.” He sniffed, looking down at his leg and half leg.

He reached out, fingers curling in the cloth of Mark’s shirt, pulling the man closer and burying his face in the others chest. For a brief moment he stayed silent, shaking only slightly until an audible sob escaped his lips. The action wasn’t uncharacteristic of David, throughout college he had always been clingy, always needing comfort when he cried, even though he didn’t cry often. The yelling definitely didn’t help.

“I really…really, really am glad to see you.”

“Yeah…” He wasn’t happy with anything that was going on at the moment, of course. But it wasn’t as though Mark himself could run out and stop the fighting from happening–it was just how the group was. Things were tough, to say the least…

It confused him for a moment when David pulled him closer, especially when he was forced into something of an awkward embrace. But then he remembered exactly who he was dealing with–back in school people had used to assume they were together a lot.

It’d never really bothered Mark. It took a lot to bother him when it came to petty things like rumors.

“I’m…glad to see you too, David,” Mark said quietly. After a few minutes the yelling had calmed, somewhat. “Since we know each other, the rest of the group’ll probably let you and those two kids stay… Are they doin’ okay…?”

Surprisingly, being a ghost happened to be one of the most boring things in the world. He wasn’t cruel enough to frighten people, but wasn’t innocent enough so that people wouldn’t have that ‘bad feeling’ when they walked into his old home. Not that he knew what was causing that. He’d been a very nice guy. But now, no one came here, only occasional people looking for a ouija board experience. So when she came, he decided to say hello...

He’s more than happy to be taken to the motel room, his fingers digging into Mark’s shirt as he is lead away from the yelling. He had always hated yelling not possessing the ability to block it out. Especially since it was about him. “Didn’t work out, did you?” He let out a chuckle, breath shaky.

“You ate all the food, didn’t you? You always ate all the food, you even ate my food. It was like living with ten roommates instead of one.” He rambled, finding past humour easier to cope with than the future. He combed his fingers through his beard, looking over Mark to see what happened to him in their years apart. “God…Mark…”

“I…I’ve been fine. Good. As long as….I’ve just, it’s been hard. It’s been really, really hard. I had to do so much– I’ve done so many things……… How have you been?”

“And thanks. One of us has to smell nice.”  Mari couldn’t help but tease him.  Honestly, most of their relationship was harassing each other.  She moved out of the doorway so he could enter.

“C’mon in so I can spray you with the febreeze. It’s Hawaiian flower scented.“

“That’s what factories smell like,” he said simply, before taking a quick step away, in case she was actually serious about the fabreeze. 

He sighed a little after a moment, sauntering right past her and planting himself onto her couch. “You eat yet?” He asked, “we should order pizza or something, I’m starving,” he supposed by now this was something of a routine they’d set up. He was used to it, anyway.

He paused and looked at her a moment, “...you smell nice.” The point of showering, but even so.
