Fast and Furious : Rohit Sharma to go on hunger strike

Fed up with comments that he is talented but not hungry enough, young Indian batsman Rohit Sharma today announced that he will go on a hunger strike in protest against his admirers. Reacting to the latest article by Geoffrey Boycott's mother in the Guardian, in which she heaped praise upon the stylish right hander but also pointed out his attitude problem, Rohit Sharma said, "Now with the inclusion of Boycott's mother, it is quite evident that everyone in the world is an admirer of myself." "But the problem with my admirers is that they all begin by saying how I have all the talent in the world, how I can be the best thing that happened to Indian cricket since Sachin Tendulkar. But they eventually come to my attitude and say I'm not hungry enough. "I thought long and hard before coming to the conclusion that only way I'm going to prove I'm hungry enough is by going on a fast," he said. Reacting to this new development, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh was quick to allege that RSS is behind Rohit Sharma's fast. "First of all, Rohit Sharma is an actor like Sachin Tendulkar than a sportsman playing for his country," he said, unintentionally drawing yet another comparison between the two. "Second, you only have to look at the initial letters of his name to understand that he puts RS in the RSS," the Congress general secretary concluded.

Sachin Is Greater Than Don Says Dhoni

It is well known that MS Dhoni is not one who is afraid of having a different opinion and express it frankly. In fact unconventionality is the mark of his batsmanship too. But today the Indian Skipper has stunned the cricket world by saying Sachin Tendulkar is a greater cricketer than Sir Donald Bradman.

Speaking to the media ahead of Team India's next match against Ireland at Bengaluru, Dhoni faced the inevitable questions about India's tied match against England here and how none of Sachin Tendulkar's centuries result in Indian wins.

"Well of course it is true that Sachin's centuries usually cost India the match. But that is precisely why I consider him as the greatest cricketer of all time," Dhoni said much to the bewilderment of the media persons present.

Seeing no one else was following his logic he continued, "Well of course Bradman's batting average was very good. But come to think of it, his outstanding talent only served Australian Cricket. Whereas Sachin is serving every cricketing nation by scoring centuries against them and helping them win, especially the minnows, which is simply outstanding. He is a true servant of the game and its greatest without doubt. It is time we recognize him as such."

Former India Captain Sunny Gavaskar echoed Dhoni's comments. "Considering various facts, yes, I do think Sachin is greater than Don himself. One billion people haven't born to watch Bradman scoring a century, have they?" he asked.

However, Ravi Shastri who featured in 1983 world cup winning team said these statements could distract the team and asked Dhoni to concentrate on the job in hand.

"In 1983 we won the world cup for Sachin Tendulkar," he said, "It's Dhoni's turn now and he must be focused on that."
