Two Girls and a Guy (1997)Ā
-Ā You think it's supposed to get more and more dramatic, it's not a movie. It's real life. For me, I just happened to be in a situation the very last time and I said, "You know what? I don't think I can continue doing this." And I reached out for help and I ran with it, you know? Because you can reach out for help in a half-assed way, and you'll get it, and you won't take advantage of it. You know? It's really not that difficult to overcome these seemingly ghastly problems. -You are saying that it's not that difficult? - No. What's hard is to decide. - That's big. That's really big.
- Oh.

Nothing pleases me more than when somebody who was awe-inspired to be working with me realizes I'm just another schmuck that they're bored of hanging out with on a set. I love that moment. I like it when that persistent illusion is smashed.

- Iāve got to tell you; as a critic and a fan of Iron Man since childhood... Iāve never been more excited... Never been more satisfied... Never been more blown away...
- Really? Oh, man...
- Honestly, when I first heard you were going to be Tony Stark, I was like... you know, Iām not really sure... but... Iām a big fan of your work and youāve never disappointed me... and... you are Tony Stark. In my mind, thereās nobody else.
- Thatās so cool.

- Hi, Honey. Thatās Susan.
- Oh, youāve gone all gooey.
- We were just screwing two hours ago.

First thing you learn in theater arts: aesthetic distance. I am not this play Iām doing. Iām not a character in The Fantasticks. Iām not Will from Oklahoma. Aesthetic distance, itās job one. Iām not my work. Iām not what I did with that studio. Iām not that period of time that I spent playing this character. And it sucks because the kid in all of us wants to be like āNo. Itās always gonna be summer camp and weāre all holding hands and singing Kumbaya. Isnāt it?ā Itās like āNo, no. Snap out of it.

I donāt think I will never go that fast again, but that is based on my behavior moment to moment, whether Iām able to maintain this nice groove Iām on or whether it will all go away in a second for something that I could justify or rationalize that was none of my own doing. But that isnāt real. This, [home, family and career] is real.
