For a horrifying instant, both believed they had been swallowed whole by
the enormous, mechanical sandworm that had been dogging them seconds
ago. The space was internally-toned, pulsing with electricity… surrounding
them with vibrations not unlike those of a living being. However, there was
no rumbling– no grinding of many large, sharpened teeth… no familiar sand.
Undoubtedly metal, in use… but blissfully un-alive.
Lariat picked herself off the floor, grimacing as she gazed about the room.
“…pink! Why’s it always gotta be fuckin’ pink!?”
“When has it ever been pink?”
“It is! Just now! Use your damn eyes.
You go colorblind from the landing or something?”
“No, I did not. You’re overreacting over a silly col- oh.”
Too busy with bickering, neither had noticed the child’s polite, utterly harmless
approach from the shadows– until now. Blinking, the spherical A.I. swiveled on
his axis to give their new guest a better look. Going off attire alone, it would be
appropriate to guess that they were the owner of this strange… house? Cave?
And by complexion… they definitely weren’t human. At least, he thought so.
Humans couldn’t have green skin… could they?
“O-oh, I’m sorry… little guy. About the… mess.
Didn’t mean to drop in on you. We’ll be going now. Right, Lar?”
“What? No! m’ not done poking around this place yet!”
she whined, knuckle deep in the wall’s thick, vein-like cords.
Whatever resulting insult he’s loaded as his ammunition against the
enemy catches in a horrified gag, trapped in his throat; immediately to his
feet, he demands, shrill, ❝ don’t TOUCH that, you INCOMPETENT --
HAH, heh, I mean. Oh, no, that looks dangerous. ❞ He lifts his hands in
some sort of general gesticulation of helplessness; uncertain exactly how
to act helpless as he’s never ever been helpful before, he settles for
putting them on his head. ❝ I would heavily advise that you keep your
FILTHY MITTS to yourself, lest this SUPERIOR TECHNOLOGY
surrounding you and I prove to be too much for inferior biology. ❞
He needs to expedite their demise and get them vaporized, or something,
but acting with too much pressing urgency may send them into suspicions;
this is a balancing act, indeed. Although Zim has nascent
INCREDIBLENESS on his side, he can’t congratulate himself quite yet.
❝ As I said before, the way out is THIS WAY, past that -- don’t TOUCH IT !!
JUST GO PAST IT !! -- and, eh, hah, over here ... the reasons as to why I
know this information is irrelevant and entirely unimportant. What is
important, however, is returning to our ... our ... familial units, safe, and
unharmed, with all our bones mostly still inside our bodies. ❞
