he almost wants to laugh bitterly, to let another pessimistic thought free about how the world just isn’t like that. while he does agree wholeheartedly with the doctor, he doubts any change would happen like that. but.. the doctor speaks so passionately about it that he’d almost feel bad about interrupting him with his own negativity. instead, he just quietly watches as the doctor works while running off into a tangent, almost wishing he had as big of ideals as he did ( maybe he did… somewhere deep down…? )
“ a-ah, thank you, sensei. “ he picks up the mug, cupping his hands around it to suck in the warmth through his fingertips. it’s nice and comforting, and he blows on it once before taking a small sip. “ it’s so good.. “ he mutters to himself, his usually dead eyes lighting up for once. he eagerly takes another sip, ignoring the fact that the tea is still hot as he does ( honestly? he’s drank hotter in one sitting.. ).
his eyes glance away from the mug to the other once he realizes the doctor is still watching him, blinking a bit before shaking his head. “ n-no, i’m fine.. i haven’t really been hungry all day, to be honest… “ ah, he just realized how bad that sounded. “ n-not that i haven’t eaten anything all day!! i did have some crackers… “ a hand reaches up to rub the back of his neck as he glances away. he’s not making it any easier for jakurai to stop worrying about him, huh…
“.... You’ve only had crackers?” He echoes softly in mild disbelief and surprise, looking rather startled at such a revelation. Concern flares up in his chest once again, but he takes a pause - leaning back in his chair with a small nod. “.... It is understandable if you don’t have much of an appetite, especially if you are not feeling well... However, you should have something else to eat before the evening.”
Another pause follows, contemplative before his spine straightens - struck by an idea.
“How about this - after you finish your drink, you can get your rest and when you wake up, I’ll have something made for you to eat. Maybe by then your appetite will have worked itself up - sleep does wonders for the body.”
He offers a reassuring smile, already beginning to think to himself what he could possibly make for his boyfriend - something hearty and arm, something with plenty of vegetables....
Okayu seemed like an ideal option - easily digestible and possessing a mild flavor that could easily topped off with carrots, greens, miso, and egg... He fishes a hair-tie out of his pants pocket, already making the effort of tying his hair back.
However, he wouldn’t start cooking quite yet - he’d see to Doppo’s comfort and help him to bed before anything else.
