They weren’t even the first  thing I’ve made in my lab. As for what I need, it should be obvious, I need your semen. But more importantly, what exactly am I getting paid for this?❞

❝Oi, Dr. Asshat. Were you taking the boys or was Miri coming with us today?❞

Taking? Miri? Oh, shoot. Having been entirely preoccupied with something entirely unrelated to children, Nils had forgotten that there was a play date to be had between his own sweet daughter and Sebastian’s little terrors sons.

“I ah, honestly can’t… recall. I’ve been… busy, you see. Erh… which would you prefer?”

⊰ ≈ஐ≈ ⊱     Sebastian rolled his eyes, really? Of course he’d forgotten about the playdate with their kids. Why wouldn’t he have? A long, drawn out sigh passed his lips as he shook his head, even if he really didn’t care. Seeing Nils was apparently busy, he just shrugged.     ❝I have some work to get done, but Cameron can watch the kids, s I can take Miri. Has she had a nap or anything yet today? Or will she need one later?❞

He narrowed his eyes at the creature. It certainly looked fascinating, interesting enough to become to victim– subject of research, if only because he was frustrated with all of its running around. “Does that thing not have a pokeball you can put it in? It’s unhygienic to have pokemon running around like that.”

It didn’t exactly make Ted like him more but it certainly didn’t make him like Sebastian less to hear that he, too, disapproved of the Professors. None were deserving of their roles and the elitism that came with them. “The information they have is easily stolen. And it’s hardly revolutionary, what they study. If I were in your position, I would harvest their notes, and then rid myself of the nuisances”

At the hand on his back, Ted flinched away, shrugging it off and giving its owner a confused and angry look. Fortunately, he was far more interested in his notes than his over eagerness to touch him for whatever reason. He flipped through them, noting the headings and the said cross referencing. “Why haven’t you got an assistant to help you out then? The little rats are in abundance through out the labs, I’m sure they can manage the pedestrian task of looking.”

Ted squirmed and shrieked as the hand went into his pocket, leaning away from Sebastian. Something was wrong. He could feel himself clamming up, and he no longer cared where the sample came from. Too scared to put up a fight, Ted found himself inches away from the redhead, breathing heavy and squirming. It took him a while to summon up the courage to push him away, with a limp, non-committal shove. “Th-this is workplace bullying! I-I’m going to report this t-to Boss! Just see if y-you don’t get suspended for this!”

⊰ ≈ஐ≈ ⊱       ❝He does, but I enjoy letting my pokemon loose in my lab. As of yet I’ve had no issues with it. And if you think he’s the only one running around in here you’re not going to be happy.❞ It was a good thing the pups were all curled up in a corner napping right now.       ❝Maybe, but the way I gather information goes completely under the radar and I can find out things that may not be in their notes. Every so often they do have useful information so I’m not sure I want to be rid of them quite yet, despite my irritation with them.❞ Besides, if Professors didn’t exist, he couldn’t trick gullible kids into thinking he was one to mess with them. Like a certain blonde he had nearly forgotten about who still hadn’t figured it out.      Sebastian shook his head. ❝I don’t want an assistant. That’s why I’ve always refused. I can have one of my pokemon step in if I need another set of hands. Cam even disguises himself as a human to do so on occasion. And besides, this isn’t something I want just anyone looking into, but I think you’re cute❞ Did he? The younger wasn’t exactly his type so why was he acting like it? ❝so I wanted to give you a shot.❞

    The redhead soon found the corners of his lips tugging into a smirk. Did all of the other scientists react this way when exposed to physical interaction? He was amused more than anything else. ❝You’re going to run crying to the Boss because I tried to kiss you? You know, Nils usually waits until after I kiss him to get all pissy, and he doesn’t threaten to go tell anyone. Hell, I used to kiss him to try and make him pissed so he’d leave me alone, but he stayed. I’m letting you look at my DNA and telling you what I know, not something I’m known to do. Why not take a chance with me before I change my mind?❞

“Oh, I am sure. But I don’t want to just take ideas from other scientists. I value my originality, after all~ I’d hate to feel I owe you. I don’t like sharing my ideas nearly as much as you do.”

Ted gagged at the mention of Professors. “I hate the Professors. They are not people of science, they’re suits hidden under white coats to hide their abundant lack of curiosity. They wouldn’t know science if it was cutting them up on a cold, hard slab.” He felt tense all of a sudden, rubbing his neck to feel better. People he hated were not the kind of thing he needed to be talking about at the moment. He shook the mental images of his own repeated rejection away and looked around, spotting the little pokemon from before.

Ice blue eyes followed it around the room, wondering what it had seen, when it ran back into the arms of its owner. Before he stared Sebastian in the face, he turned sharply around, as if to pretend he’d always been looking at the sample, peering down the microscope again at nothing to reinforce it. “An analysis of DNA isn’t exactly the most efficient way to find that out. You’d be better off putting the specimen under intense observation, perhaps a little testing. But if you insist on doing things this way, then you’d really need to cross reference the matching base pairs of DNA with that of a Gengar. Or at least the parts of interest.”

It all seemed fairly logical. The change in coloured irises was likely to do with Gengar’s chromataphores that they used to blend into the shadows, and understanding Ghost pokemon was likely to do with some kind of sensitivity all members of the type shared. Looking through a microscope didn’t necessarily prove any of this, but Ted had to bluff something. “Would you mind telling me from what part of the body did this sample come from?”

⊰ ≈ஐ≈ ⊱        ❝Oh. Alright.❞ Sebastian chuckled softly. ❝I also value originality. which is why my little Enigmeons are running around. I don’t take ideas. I make my own, but research that already exists is useful. I’m not generally one to share either. I’m not sure what’s gotten into me to be quite honest.❞       The redhead crossed his arms over his chest, a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. ❝Hey, hey. Calm down. You don’t have to sell me on the fact that’s a horrible breed. I hate them too, and for very good reasons.❞ Well, save for one, but he wasn’t really recognized as a professor anymore. ❝But at the same time, they have access to useful information which is their only use to me.❞      Even though it was obvious he hadn’t been looking at the slide the entire time, Sebastian let it slide, a hand coming to rest on the other’s back. ❝I have cross referenced the two already, which you can see clearly in my notes. Though observations and tests on this particular subject are a bit difficult for me conduct on my own. Which is precisely why it hasn’t yet been accomplished.❞     Ted’s question only caused the redhead to grin widely as he slid a hand into his pocket to retrieve the stolen slide. ❝It came from a swab of the specimen’s mouth. If you’d like...❞ A hand grasped Ted’s arm to turn him around as Sebastian leaned up, hovering his lips just inches from the other’s. ❝...Instead of attempting to steal my sample, I could easily give you one of your own.❞

“Well, yes. But that would require interest first. Such as your interesting little sample of DNA. You managed to tempt me with that, but it’s a one off situation. It doesn’t mean I want to chat idly to you in the labs”

His chest puffed up as Sebastian dismissed his position. How dare he doubt his credentials? He’d impressed Boss, so why not this nobody? Shouldn’t the white coat he wore now instead of the ghastly grunt uniform be enough proof? “I am impressive. But I won’t show you my work. I don’t want you stealing my ideas.” He narrowed his eyes at the scientist and the creature in his arms. It wasn’t familiar to him… or was it? No, no it couldn’t have been, it was one of a kind.

“Tch, I don’t need to see where it came from. Just the sample. What do you need my help with.” Ted sat down in front of the microscope, busy analysing the cells and their formation. As he did, the thought maybe it would be interesting to see where it came from. He turned back to Sebastian collecting his notes to make sure he was preoccupied, and then back to the sample, dedicating every detail to memory. Then he took the slide and pocketed it.

⊰ ≈ஐ≈ ⊱        ❝I don’t think you realize the use idle chit-chat can serve. You can learn a lot from it. And I wouldn’t say his is a one-off. If you’re interested in this project I have plenty you might want to look at.❞       Sebastian shifted through the pile of notes that sat on his desk. He really needed to organize it better...but with the triplets it often became difficult. A hand ran through his hair as he rolled his eyes. This conversation was actually amusing him. ❝Don’t worry, I don’t want to steal your work. I’m already busy enough stealing work from a few other people. You know it’s useful to know someone who’s friends with the Professors.❞      Though the redhead’s back was turned, there were several pairs of eyes watching the younger male that took note of his actions. The Enigmeon being one of them, which dashed over to his trainer’s side. After locating the notes, Sebastian knelt down to see what the little ghost wanted before his eyes shifted to Ted. ❝Well, I’ve been attempting to figure out what that Gengar DNA may be doing to that specimen, heightened abilities or senses, and if I can create this effect with others.❞     Making his way over, Sebastian stood a bit close behind Ted, reaching around to present the notes. ❝So far the only abilities I’ve found are a change in the color of the specimen’s iris when feeling intense emotion, and the ability to understand Ghost-type pokemon.❞ His head tilted to the side, hovering over the other’s shoulder, his voice lowering as he spoke. ❝So tell me, did you find anything interesting?❞

“Of course I’d rather ignore you. You’re not someone I’m fond of, why would I help you?” Ted had forgotten who Cam was, but he didn’t like the feeling that Sebastian was making him miss out on something.

He slipped out of his seat, straightening out a little before inviting the other to lead the way with a gesture. “Sorry. Force of habit. Certainly not cute. He’s not even my boss any more… not directly, any way.” Where were all these propositions coming from? Something felt off. He was never invited to work with the other scientists, even though he’d seen others work in groups. Besides that, he didn’t want to. Mewthree was a tempting idea, but cloning had really been done to death in these labs, and he was bored of it. Besides, he had his own samples of Mewtwo DNA to play with.

“No thank you. I work alone. So I can get a hundred per cent of the credit. I’m only helping you now out of the kindness of my heart.” And because he was curious.

⊰ ≈ஐ≈ ⊱        ❝If you say so, though sometimes you’ll find yourself interested in people you dislike. And it doesn’t matter if you like someone or not. If it can get you further and open doors there’s no reason to say no.❞       Sebastian rose a brow at the gesture, but only continued to grin as he led the way back toward his own lab. ❝It’s adorable. ‘Boss’.❞ The redhead snickered to himself. ❝So you got promoted? Congrats. Though until I see you do something impressive, you’re still just an assistant in my eyes.❞ As they entered the lab he scooped up one of his two Enigmeon as it was dashing past, his grin only widening when his offer was refused.      ❝The kindness of your heart my ass.❞ The small ghost-like fox lay across Sebastian’s arm as he stroked his fur. ❝This isn’t a Team Rocket project yet. It’s something I might present and you’re lucky I offered. I was even going to let you meet the specimen it came from as well as the process it took to create it, but I’d only share that with a partner.❞ The redhead set the pokemon down and motioned toward a microscope.    ❝Go ahead and have a look. I’ll grab my notes so we can get you out of here. I wouldn’t want to waste too much of your precious time.❞

“Not for me! I will practically relish ignoring you,” he said, doing just that, not even giving him a second look as he leant against his desk.

Usually, Ted was completely happy to do his own thing, ignoring whatever anybody else was doing, but with the deliciously interesting tidbit dangled in front of him, having it (and all the glory of discovering what it might be) taken away and, worse still, given to Nils made him stop. 

“Wait!” He reached out to grab Sebastian’s fore arm to stop him leaving. “Don’t bother Boss while he’s working. I will handle this… I suppose… I can reschedule what I am doing.”

⊰ ≈ஐ≈ ⊱       ❝Suit yourself, but after realizing just how thin I’ve been spreading myself I’ve been considering seeking help with a few of my projects. Including Cam. But if you’d rather ignore me, fine.❞       Though he preferred to be on his own, the redhead generally knew how to get what he wanted when it came to people. And for some reason he suddenly wanted the other’s attention. The feeling of a hand on his arm only made a grin spread across Sebastian’s lips.         ❝Boss...that’s so cute. I remember when I used to call him that. Of course before I single-handedly made a name for myself. You should consider working on my projects with me. With only the two of us on the that’s more credit for you. Not to mention you’d get to work with Mewthree. Let’s head over to my lab so you can look at that DNA.❞

Ted scowled, ready, but not willing, for a lecture from the red head, pre-emptively bored at what he had to say. He couldn’t have been more happy when he stopped speaking. Silence was the best way to get work done. 

And not even a change in tune could make him appreciative of him to starting to talk again.”I thought we agreed to stay out of one another’s ways? Although, that does sound fascinating. If you’re interested in my opinion have a sample sent to me when you can. For now I have notes to make and a presentation to finalise.”

⊰ ≈ஐ≈ ⊱      ❝We did, but working in the same place as we do, don’t you think it’ll be a little difficult?❞ Sebastian leaned back against the table near where the other was working, idly flipping through his own notes.    ❝Ah, presentations. Always fun. But...This sample isn’t exactly something I want floating around. And unfortunately, time isn’t something I have an ample supply of. I didn’t particularly want to, but maybe I’ll just ask Nils for his input. Oh well. Have fun with your notes I guess.❞

“Hm? No, I don’t remember that~” He smiled innocently for a while, scribbling away and recording notes from his previous lab session. The smile was wiped off his face as soon as the other bumped into him, a scowl replacing it. 

“No, I do not have any problems staying away from you, but do you have a problem leaving me alone?” He gave Sebastian a dark stare.

⊰ ≈ஐ≈ ⊱     ❝Well I do, quite vividly actually.You tried asking far too any questions about my project-❞ Violet hues blinked at his notes for a moment or so before looking back to the other, his expression much softer than usual.       ❝You know...on second thought...❞ He walked past him again, obviously contemplating something. ❝Ted was it? I’ve been studying this sample of DNA recently; human though I seems to have a bit of Gengar as well. I’m making a fresh batch of Cocoa, so if you want to come take a look you’re more than welcome to.❞

“When have I ever begged you for work?”

Ted was intently focussing on his work, and took his sweet time about turning around. It was the voice he recognised any way. “Oh! So that’s what you look like… disappointing.”

And back to work he goes.

Sebastian rolled his eyes and intentionally bumped into the other as he went to retrieve his notes.         ❝Just don’t get in my way. Since you can obviously see again, that shouldn’t be an issue, right?❞
