La squadra hc when they were in school (highschool) like their attitude, were they like academic achiever, delinquent, did they date anyone?? (They’re in the same school btw)🙏🙏🙏🙏 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AND THANKYOU!!
OMG YASSS! I have so many hcs with highschool la squadra tbh😭
La Squadra Highschool hcs
Okay so first of all
I'm pretty sure they won't become one big friend group at least for a few months
Mostly because of personality differences
For example Prosciutto prays to all the gods imaginable not to have classes with Formaggio
It's not like he hates him, but he definitely finds him pretty annoying
Poor Pros just came here to study some math while there's Formaggio trying to show a lightbulb into his mouth out of boredom
And I definitely see him annoy Pros in a classic class clown way
-Pros... PROS
-WHAT?
-*giggles* nothin'
And if the teacher notices he'd blame Prosciutto too😭
So yeah.. nobody really likes having classes with Formaggio
I'm pretty sure everyone sees him like a type of guy who constantly needs to date someone, although he only got a girlfriend once (in 5th grade and it lasted for two weeks)
Thinks that drinking energy drinks is cool, so he drinks them CONSTANTLY
If you look closely you might see his hands shaking from all the caffeine he consumed
He's like a big ball of energy
And maybe a ball of stomach and kidney issues, he's not sure, visiting a doctor is not his style
And since he needs to spend this energy somewhere the only class he never skipped is PE
Tries to show cool tricks with a basketball ball, but just ends up looking stupid
Well.. at least Illuso is amused
In the mean way
I swear he's like a school diva
A mean girl
Nobody really likes him for that, but he kinda has frienemy dynamic with Formaggio
I swear, one minute they're laughing together and the other they're trying to drown each other in a water fountain
Illuso would have a school gossip instagram account
(Mostly he just comes up with tea himself)
Somebody held hands? Yeah, they're getting a whole article about their dating life.
"Name three songs of the band on your shirt" type of guy
So yeah, he just goes to school to get some tea
But I KNOW that at the end of the semester he tries to hand in all his skipped assignments like nothing happened
-Hey teacher, I've got this essay you assigned us
-...It was due two months ago
-...Well I still did it, didn't I?
Risotto is a quiet type of guy
Not in a cool mysterious way, he's just mostly in his own world
But if you want to do a project with him, or sit with him during lunch he's totally fine with that
Has his own collection of band shirts
(Uh-huh he's the one who Iluso asks to name three band songs)
-Metallica shirt? Hah, name at least three of their songs
-"Enter Sandman", "Ride The Lightning", "Fade To Black"
-..Okay you're no fun
Randomly mastered piercing so now he has both of his brows pierced
Not really an academic weapon, he just does what he's asked to do
Literally, if you ask him to write an essay for 2000 words he'll write EXACTLY 2000 words. No more no less
I don't see him dating at all, cause he sees no point in it
Sometimes hangs out with Prosciutto
He just complimented his jacket once
Cause I literally see Pros being the most fashionable guy in school
So he likes his outfits/pieces of closing being complimented
He's the one big perfectionist
Has everything organised
School locker, notebooks, pencil cases you name it
Tried to become school president once
But wasn't so popular among voters for being "too serious"
He was, in fact, too serious
I don't think he ever skipped a class
(He'll feel bad if he does)
Besides, school is for studying so what's the poing of going there if he would just skip classes?
Took Pesci, as he calls it, "under his wing"
Mostly because Pesci thinks that Pros's really cool
Okay so Pesci is like the shyest but the nicest guy in school
Pros told him to be less nice cause some students take advantage of that
Yeah, some people are really mean to him
Gets so upset if he gets a bad mark
He's an average students, but tries to do better
I see Prosciutto using aggressive motivation on him
-We're graduating in two years and you're planning to apply to college with those results???
And Pesci gets a major scare from that
Also tried to be in school sports team, such as swim team, soccer team etc
Found out that that's not his cup of tea the hardest way possible.
Melone's a straight A student without even trying
He doesn't care that much, but somehow he's magically one of the best students at school
-Did you study for the test?
-What? No, I didn't even open the book *Gets an A+*
Teachers always ask him to help if they have some sort of computer problems
Still, some students think he's a creep
And well.. he is to some extent
Just don't tell him your zodiac sign and you'll be okay
I see him being in some kind of computer club
Or generally something related to electronics
You know, even if he's a good student, he still got suspended for dress code violation once or twice
But I know he's still teachers favourite because he knows how to make Excel Tables
And I also know for a fact that the same teachers don't like Ghiaccio
Especially literature teacher.
Ghiaccio is weirdly educated in literature, and he thinks that only his point of view is right
You don't agree with his view of some characters? Oh well, obviously your opinion is the wrong one
So the poor literature teacher spends like 45 minutes only to make Ghia stop try to argue with him
Also constantly tries to find loopholes in the school rules
And there's no reason to it, he just does that
School office secretary hates to see him coming.
Ghia is another perfectionist so instead of using eraser to correct a misspell, he just throws away an entire sheet of paper and starts again
How do you usually do research for fics? Any recommendations?
I WONT LIE recently I've been finding it extremely difficult to look for fics, because I tend to have a very strict criteria for it:
The fic NEEDS to be above 30k (15k, if I'm desperate) or it wont catch my interest, and I also have a REALLY specific taste in fanfic - I mostly read x readers, which you all know by now, but I have a very specific taste and I refuse to read anything that is below my writing level SO LET ME GIVE YOU
Chronicallyonline101's FANFIC RECOMMENDATIONS!
For La Squadra Di Execuzioni:
Lovely Weather, by Canta1oupe on AO3:
'On a late train back to Naples, an assassin meets a foreigner. (Ghiaccio doesn’t expect to gain a tenuous friendship afterwards, but that’s exactly what he gets.) He's got an opinion on everything and you’re the only person willing to humor him.'
18k words, last updated in 2020, it is one of the best Ghiaccio/f!reader fics I have EVER read, but is unfortunately unfinished :(
First Love / Late Spring, by Anonymous on AO3:
You have to leave, you can't take it anymore. You are given the oppurtunity to leave your old team in Passione for a new one. You jump at the chance.
67k words and being consistently updated, a general La Squadra/f!reader fic and is REALLY good, the story is engaging, the MC likeable and her stand VERY creative! I cannot recommend this enough it is SUCH a good read
more below!
Stationary Traveler, by flauberries on AO3:
In which Prosciutto enlists the aid of a waitress to fulfill a hit placed on two former members of Passione.
Roughly 50k, it is an explicit Prosciutto/f!reader fic that features a LOT of heavy and mature themes (noncon, sexual assault, older man x younger woman trope, ect.) and should be read with caution, it is very well written, extremely detailed, and doesn't get nearly enough praise as it deserves! Unfinished and last updated in 2023.
Hold Me Tight (Or Don't), by TenthGrove on AO3:
When the strange but beautiful Risotto Nero abducts you, he swears that everything he does is for your own good.
Completed, 32k words, soft yandere Risotto Nero/f!reader fic where reader gets kidnapped by Risotto WHICH SOUNDS BAD but its very sweet, well written, and has eventual smut. Highly recommend if you aren't looking for anything *too* heavy!
Daily Routine, by Gorephobia on AO3:
When you are able to see the riddled corpses of those who once walked the Earth in a translucent form only you could see, it comes to no surprise that you have tried (and failed) to grow accustomed to them, and tried to avoid them your entire life, living day to day as of you don't see twisted, surreal forms of people that once were. Though, this becomes extremely difficult as a group of souls had found themselves attracted to you. Your normal routine is now threatened as you try your best to avoid the affections of these mangled ex-hitmen. No matter how hard you pray, you can't see to shake them off. You are left to live your daily life with a group of corpses breathing over you.
11k, unfinished and last updated in 2020, this fic (despite its odd formatting) is extremely well written and focuses on a reader who is able to see the ghosts of la squadra, but pretends they don't; I read it the first time after an exam in 2023 at 16 and I still hold it close to me - IT IS however rather dark and gory.
Every Breath You Take, by Murazze on AO3:
You didn’t know these men faces or names, but it was a fun little game trying to guess how they were and how well you’d get along with them based on the little details you could get from what they left behind. You didn’t dare to put your hands too deep into their belongings, just making the rooms presentable, but your eyes would catch some snippets of the people behind the objects thanks to books, clothes or notes they’d leave behind.
58k, unfinished, last updated in 2023, this is a yandere La Squadra/gn!reader fic, it is EXTREMELY well written and one of the first fics I read when I was getting into la squadra - the fact that it was unfinished was actually one of the reasons I decided I wanted to write Dumb Killers! SO if you liked DK, you may like this
Ghost Rule, by empresscomplex on AO3:
The first time Melone and you meet, things don't go as smoothly as he would have liked, but he doesn't give up that easily.
63k finished Melone/reader fic! It's one of my favourites, and possibly *the* best written sole Melone/reader there is on AO3, though it has mild yandere themes and noncon, it can get very dark and explicit at certain points so please heed the tags before reading
Wildest Dreams, by NekoNo999:
In this fantasy world, La Squadra is a shadow troop doing dirty works for the tyranny king Diavolo and you are the prize for their latest successful raid. It would be easy to just fulfill your duty as a prize for pleasure. But your traitorous heart tells you that you want more.
50k words, still ongoing though updates are slow, this is an explicit La Squadra/f!reader fic that takes place in a fantasy AU; there are EXTREMELY mature themes like prostitution and sexual assault, so read at your own risk, but it is very well written and one of the best fics for La Squadra I have read
OTHER JJBA:
Organic Obsession, by HorizonDemise:
Rohan needs reference material for a one shot, but he just can't seem to make it flow. The best reference comes from experience and surely you won't mind helping him gain the experience he needs...right? At the same time, you begin to notice a particular customer visiting your shop more and more frequently. It felt harmless at first, but it begins to make you feel a bit uneasy...
24k words, unfinished and last updated in 2024, this is a Rohan and Kira/reader fic! There's a love triangle and mild yandere themes, it is very well written and one of my person favourites!
Revising Romance, another one by HorizonDemise:
You said you're unimpressed with his work, unimpressed with him! It shouldn't bother him as much as it does. It's like you've sunk your claws into his heart and won't let go, but the reality is that he's the one who won't let go. Rohan is going to get you to love him, no matter how many revisions he has to make in your "book".
47k, unfinished and last updated in 2024, another favourite I have from HorizonDemise! It is a Rohan/reader and the yandere themes in this are more prominent, so if that is something you are interested in then I recommend!
Future Games, by CannedBananaBread:
(Using the shorter version of the summary because the other one is extremely long) "For nothing enriches the world more than kindness. It makes mysterious things clear, difficult things easy, and dull things cheerful" -Leo Tolstoy, Dio learns to find strength in that which makes him human.
This was one of the BEST fics I have ever read on AO3, it is EXTREMELY well written, references advanced literature and novels, and has SO much content to read from; 200k and ongoing, it is an explicit Dio Brando/reader that I would personally recommend ANYONE read because it is amazing.
PERSONAL FAVOURITES AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
You guys should check out @night-ecl1ps3 's AO3! They have oneshots like Head Over Heels (Suzie Q/reader) AND Hidden In the Sand (Dragona/reader)
AND if you are into OCxCanon Characters you should read @theplayersau 's fic The Players!
Hello, I made a Risotto x Prosciutto fancomic where Melone asks them um... Important questions. It's only eight pages long and I'd appreciate if you'd read it 🙏
TWs: Lots of dirty talk, smoking, alcohol abuse and some 18+ scenes. Minors begone.

I’m not sure if you know, but apparently the new la squadra novel revealed the personalities of sorbet and gelato, and it’s suprisingly the opposite of their fanon personalities
What do you think?
Oooh, interesting! I just saw this, so I'm sorry if this response was slow, but thank you so much for sending me this!
I have not read the novel, and I will be honest, because of the nature of my work, I am not much of a reader for fun nowadays and probably won't read it, but!
On the one hand, it's an interesting thing to see - sort of subverting expectations based on their character designs in a way, because Gelato's outfit is way more "military" to me than anything about Sorbet. And there are some fun details here, like the sweets and such, I'll give them that. Who wrote the novel by the way? I'm guessing that one is not Araki's doing, but was he involved in any way, like coming up with the characterization?
On the other hand, I was not impressed by those character sheets. They have Stand but we can't tell you what it is! I laughed, honestly, I just guffawed, that feels like such a weird cop-out. I swear if they just left out that part about Stands, it would have been better to me personally, but with those caveats of undisclosed Stands added, I just laughed, I couldn't take any of it seriously afterwards. Plus, I feel like their being fleshed out is coming in so late and in such a roundabout way - especially after all the no homo disclosures in previous material - that I will chose to ignore this new characterization altogether and just stick to what I made up because I enjoy that better. Part of the magic with these two was that you could tell they were basically married and you were free to fill in all the blanks their sad and short narrative left behind, and fans have been allowed that range for so long that I would be surprised if anyone worth their characterization salt just threw out their previous interpretations in favor of this. Bringing over elements? Maybe, but honestly, I find this less compelling than what I personally had (and obviously, it is way less queer as well, which is something I will NOT compromise on. Canon and pseudo-canon can pry drag queen Sorbet from my cold dead hands.)
All in all, I appreciate you sending this and it's interesting to look at, but it definitely did not make me want to read the novel... welp. What about you all? Are you excited for the novel / do you like the characterizations?
(Disclaimer on not being much of a reader: I'm a translator, and I just finished a five-month workload where I basically read and reread the same text dozens of times from original language version to target language version, and it drains me so much that reading for pleasure in my free time nowadays is only doable through audio books because text will MELT in front of my eyes when my brain has had enough. Because of this I am behind on every single thing I care about that involves reading texts. It would take a hyperfixation and me absolutely starving for content on that front to beat the brain fog, and right now I don't see that in the cards for me...)
could i please request a reader/sorlato no powers au where reader is kidnapped and held in their basement and is corrupted by them through sex and knifeplay? (and maybe with some mind break as well)
breaking point - sorbet x reader x gelato (5.6k)
sorbet gets to choose the toy this time.

“You’re awake.”
Your head is pounding as you slip out of an awkward, darkness-soaked dream and back into consciousness. You’re expecting to feel your bed beneath you; the mountain of pillows and blankets you’ve unavoidably tangled yourself into whilst you’re trying to sleep. But as your eyes adjust to the dim light and you become more aware of yourself, you soon realise that this is almost as far away from your bed as it’s possible to be.
Something metallic and cold is biting sharp into your wrists, wrenching your shoulders back – something just as cold, just as hard is beneath your ass. You rock yourself forward slightly and hear an alarming creaking, and as your vision fully focuses you realise you’re handcuffed to a folding metal chair.
Oh my God.
Vague memories of last night come pouring back to you; the bar your friends had dragged you to, sitting awkwardly whilst they danced, the two men who had taken pity on you and who you had assumed were safe because the way they were all over each other, there was no way they weren’t a couple--
You look for the source of the earlier voice and see one of them. The taller one, with the dark hair; the one who had been quieter, had gently scolded his boyfriend when the blond had gotten wrapped up in a story and had started gesturing wildly. He’s looking at you with mild interest from where he’s sat, a book propped up in one hand.
“Normally they’re screaming by now,” he tells you, off-handedly, and your heart seizes up.
“Are you going to kill me?” You breathe, so softly that you’re not even sure if he’ll hear it. The corner of his mouth twitches slightly as he lays the book down onto a metal table, scoots his chair towards you and leans forward, his elbows on his knees.
“Would you like me to?” He asks. It is not a comforting question. You blink up at him – his face is perfectly serious, smooth, unbothered. Your eyes dart around the room you’re currently in and bounces off the refrigerator in the corner, the table and chairs, the metal table under a wall that’s absolutely heaving with weapons, guns and blades--
You feel yourself start to shake.
“I-I d-don’t--”
Another one of those twitches. You remember, vaguely, from last night, that he wasn’t prone to smiling – unlike his boyfriend, whose grin was always just a little bit too wide. Had they slipped something into your drink? The idea makes you shudder. If this is in their home (and judging from the dank concrete walls and the lack of light, you think it’s very likely you’re in a basement), why do they need so many knives? So many guns?
Oh, you’re in horrible trouble.
“I’m going to tell Gelato you’re awake soon,” he says – and you assume that’s the blond’s name. “So if you’d rather die now, let me know.”
He says it all perfectly seriously, without an ounce of remorse. Fear is bubbling white hot in your throat as you whisper;
“Am I going to die no matter what?”
He tips his head to the side a fraction, his eyes roving over your skin in an appreciative way that makes you shiver. You’d thought they were handsome last night – older than you, self-assured, both clearly well-built (though Gelato had been shorter, with a little more softness around his middle) and muscled, but you’d pushed back those thoughts the moment you’d realised they were together.
“We all are,” he says. “But . . . if you’re asking about us, no. There’s no guarantee we’ll definitely kill you.” He leans forward just a little more, his face too close to yours, and you flinch as for just a moment a smile that’s all wolfish teeth flashes over his face. “I don’t want to, anyway. Yet. Usually Gelato chooses, but you were my choice.”
“What do you mean?” You ask him, swallowing the lump in your throat. Now you look closer at the floor, you can see there are dark stains on it, and though your brain doesn’t want to connect the dots, you can’t help thinking you know exactly what they want.
“Gelato likes the flashy ones,” he says. “I thought quiet might be more interesting for once.” He reaches casually into the pocket of his trousers and pulls out something small and silvery, whipping it to tap once against your face. A sting blossoms from your cheek and you realise that it’s a knife he’s holding. “So far, I think I’m proven right.”
There’s a bang from the floor above, and the man pulls back, smiling up, sickly sweet. He stands, leaving you panting in fear but still not screaming, and goes to the bottom of a set of rickety metal stairs.
“Caro?” He calls, affection reading in every syllable of his tone – and a door swings open and a smaller figure bounds down the stairs and straight into his boyfriend’s arms with a chuckle and a soft;
“They’re awake? Finally. I think I put a bit too much in their drink this time!”
The man whose name you don’t know ruffles the other’s hair affectionately as Gelato’s eyes wander over to you.
“Huh!” He says. “They’re not screaming or struggling yet! Have they called you a bastard and begged for their life? Ooh, I love it when they do that.”
“Not yet,” the lower voice hums, and Gelato laughs like an iron gate swinging and screeching in the wind. “I like this one. Nice to have someone quiet around the place.”
“Ah, not for long, I’m sure!” Gelato wrenches himself out of Sorbet’s embrace and comes to stand in front of you, placing his hands on his hips with a wide grin plastered across his face. Closer up, you can see that the shirt he’d had carefully buttoned last night is half-open instead and pushed up over his forearms, revealing a mass of shiny white scar tissue covering him almost everywhere. “Good morning, passerotto!”
The affectionate pet name makes you wince, and immediately a rough hand is tugging at your chin, too hard. His smile doesn’t fade a whit, just seeming to get brighter and wider.
“Say good morning,” he tells you. “Be polite. I don’t like it when people don’t have manners!” He notices that your cheek is bleeding and leans in even closer, tongue flicking out against the wound and making your face scrunch in disgust. He laughs. “If you’re not polite, I’ll give you a matching one on the other side, yes?” His voice drops a semitone. “I cut deeper than Sorbet does.”
You blink back the tears that are threatening to spill down your cheeks, knowing they’ll sting the wound – what did you do to deserve this? You’re a good person, you think – you’d only gone out last night because your friends had asked you to, you recycle, you’re quiet and boring and just get on with things--
“Good morning,” you say, your voice dry and aching, your throat prickling with pain. Gelato laughs and pats the side of your cheek with the cut a little too hard.
“Good!” He says. “That wasn’t so hard, was it?” He stares directly into your eyes, his own far too bright, far too wide – the smile on his face showing slightly crooked teeth, as if they’ve been knocked out of place in many fights. There’s something unhinged about both of them, but you think it’s far closer to the surface in this one.
“What are you going to do to me?” You ask. Gelato laughs delightedly at the question, slamming a hand down on your shoulder.
“Wait and see,” he says, and he reaches into one of the many pockets of the fatigues he’s wearing and pulls out a far bigger knife than the one Sorbet had used on you. Your blood runs cold. “But I know we’ll both enjoy it!”
You can’t help but think that the ‘you both’ is about Sorbet and Gelato, and does not at all concern you.
The knife is gently ran down your middle, and you flinch again as you feel the fabric fall from your skin, leaving you bare and shivering in your underwear. Gelato looks down at you in brief interest, before his eyes snap back to your face – the wide, terrified eyes and the trembling lip and the place you’re still bleeding.
“I think this one’s cute,” he decides, eventually. Sorbet walks up behind him, wrapping strong arms around his boyfriend’s waist. The taller presses a kiss on Gelato’s cheek before he looks at you – and his gaze across your body is a lot more predatory, making you squirm on the chair.
“I’m glad you approve, caro,” he hums, pressing a kiss to the scarred throat. You hear a light clinking, see the flash of something shiny, and realise there are dog tags around his neck. That explains the fatigues and some of the scars and maybe some of the guns that are on the wall--
Your mouth moves before your brain as you whimper out;
“Please. I-- I’ll do anything. I won’t tell anyone. Please let me go--”
“Ah, ah!” Gelato grins and the sharp tip of the blade presses into your other cheek, making you wrench your head back in fear of how much more the bigger knife might hurt. “Don’t be silly! We’ve barely gotten to know you at all yet! Sorbetto . . .” Gelato’s tone is sing-song, heavy-lidded eyes looking up at him. “This one needs a crash course in what we could do to them if they don’t learn quickly. Will you get them in the chains for me, whilst I get things ready?”
Sorbet chuckles lowly.
“Of course, tesoro,” he hums, low and dark. “I can’t wait to see what makes them break.”
In the end, it takes more than they’re expecting to make you break.
It’s not the light brush of their knives against your skin, or the feel of their tongues lapping at the blood that wells in the shallow cuts. It’s not the teeth digging into bare flesh, nor is it Gelato’s smile when he puts a hand on your throat and you thrash wildly and he breaks one of your fingers.
(“Next time, I’ll break two,” he’d said, afterwards, as Sorbet had bandaged it. “I like the sound it made.”)
It’s not even the other victim they drag down here; a man with dark hair, apologising for not paying something back, squirming in their grip and sobbing. You realise as he insists that he’ll have the money in a few days, he’s sorry, can’t they ask Risotto for an extension, that Sorbet and Gelato are involved in Passione, the crime syndicate.
Gelato looks at you, where you’re still shackled against the wall, and smiles.
“Next time,” he says, sickly sweet, as he wanders over to the weapons wall and takes his sweet time running his fingers over his various toys (Sorbet’s heavy boot is on the man’s back, pinning him down, as he gurgles and begs), “We’ll let you do the honours, passerotto.”
He picks out a handgun.
“Sorry,” he says to Sorbet, with a grin, “but I don’t want to get anything on them. This one looks filthy. No fun at all.”
Sorbet smiles fondly at his boyfriend.
“Plenty of meat on his bones, though.” Sorbet says, and Gelato laughs again, walking over to you. Your heart leaps into your throat as the barrel of the gun that Gelato is holding is thrust in front of your mouth. “You’ll leave me the bulk of it, won’t you?”
Gelato is still looking at Sorbet, even with the gun so close to you.
“Of course,” he says, adoration dripping off every syllable of his words. “We can even share with them. It’s a very intimate act,” Gelato turns back to you, jabbing the gun closer, so the barrel pushes against your lips, “eating the meat someone’s lovingly prepared for you. And we want to share it with you. Doesn’t that make you feel happy, passerotto?”
You’re shaking. You open your mouth even with the gun so close and mumble;
“Yes.”
You think you understand what they’re implying and the thought of it makes you sick to your stomach, but you also know that they hate it when you argue. You’ve gotten very good at agreeing with them, at taking whatever fun activity they want to dole out, at knowing what can set off Gelato’s hair-trigger temper and make Sorbet go cold and dark and icy all over.
“I can’t hear you,” Gelato taunts, and this time he shoves the gun further into your mouth and you cough and choke on the metal-smoke taste that rests on your tongue. “Say it again.”
“Yeth.” Your voice is muffled, but louder. Gelato is still looking at you, and you force the corners of your mouth up into a smile.
He pulls the gun out and you take in a ragged breath, wanting to spit out the taste of it still lingering on your tastebuds but knowing you shouldn’t. The trail of saliva connecting it to your mouth makes you cringe in disgust, but Gelato doesn’t pull it away.
“Kiss it for luck,” he demands. Your eyes look desperately towards Sorbet, who is watching all of this play out with interest. The man on the floor has been reduced to mumbling prayers in between sobs; he seems to know there is no way that he’s getting out of this basement alive. “I won’t ask twice.”
You force your mouth to pucker, to press one quickly and chastely onto the barrel – and Gelato seems satisfied for now, dragging it back and walking to where Sorbet is. He holds the gun up to his boyfriend, who dutifully leans down to push his mouth against it--
The way that Sorbet kisses the gun makes you squirm, heat rushing to your face, your gaze quickly averted as the bigger man’s tongue runs across the metal in a caress and he groans against it.
When Sorbet pulls back, he’s panting, his cheeks reddened.
“Do it,” Sorbet begs Gelato, voice hungry. You are not looking. You are staring at the wall ahead of you, waiting for things to be over.
You do not break, then, as you hear the gunshot and hear the cracking of bone and the wet crunch and splatter that you know is a man’s life bleeding out on concrete floors. You cry, but you do not break. You sag against the manacles keeping you chained to the wall, metal biting cruelly into your sore wrists, but you do not break.
“Mm,” Sorbet says, suddenly beside you, tipping your chin to look at him. There’s a splatter of blood on his cheekbone. “Did you know you’ve been here a week? We’ve never had one last so long.”
You do not break.
You watch Sorbet prepare the man’s body, immaculate and neat and practised. Gelato drags a chair next to you and sits, recounting every step that Sorbet takes and telling you about all of the various ways the two of them have enjoyed their victims, giggling when you say, softly and shakily in a voice that has not had much use in the past week;
“Is that what you’re going to do to me?”
“Of course not,” Gelato says, petting your thigh, not caring about the way you cringe at his touch. There’s blood caked under his fingernails. “We wouldn’t have kept you this long if we were.”
There is a small bathroom off the basement, with a toilet and a sink in it – even having to ask Sorbet if you may use it does not make you break. It seems almost natural to ask them if you may be permitted to do basic human functions. It’s normal for you, now, the way Sorbet feeds you and Gelato cleans your wounds with pure alcohol and laughs when you flinch at the sting. It’s normal to be accompanied to the bathroom whilst one of them lounges against the door, waiting for you to be done. It’s normal to have to press your thighs together and pray one of them will check on you soon so you may ask if you can go to the bathroom or risk disgracing yourself.
So when Sorbet sits in front of you with the plate of meat on his lap and holds out his fork with a dubious piece of the meticulously prepared meal speared on it, it’s natural that you open your mouth and chew.
“Is it good?” Gelato asks you, breathing heavily, watching you as you swallow and try desperately not to think about the not-animal that the meat came from. Sorbet’s mouth is tilted up as he waits for your answer.
“...Yes.”
It’s never good to make them angry. Gelato laughs and claps his hand together.
“Right answer, tesoro,” he says. He grabs the fork from Sorbet and spears another piece of the meat on it, leaning forward to push it against your lips until you open and accept it. “Good, good! You’re doing so well! Mmm, you look so cute with your mouth full like that!”
Chew. Swallow. Repeat.
Don’t think about it.
You don’t break, but you feel yourself hanging on by a thread as Sorbet and Gelato kiss each of your cheeks before they leave you for the night and you find yourself missing their presence as they ascend the stairs.
Because, if they didn’t come back . . . what would you do without them?
You can pinpoint the exact moment you break.
Gelato comes down the stairs thirst, thumping excitedly, grinning when he sees the way your head perks up at the noise.
“Ah! A special night for us all tonight, tesoro!” He says, excitedly, as he bounds over to you and fiddles with the manacles that keep you attached to the wall. You gasp in relief as they fall, letting yourself rub over the raw ridges where you think you’ll have scars of them for years. “We’re going to see if we keep you!”
You look up at him with coldness drenching your spine, and he gives you a grin that you don’t know whether is supposed to be terrifying or comforting. He pats your cheek affectionately, and you only wince a little at the way his fingers dig against the healing scars.
(“You look best with blood on your face!” Gelato had chirped, as he’d dragged the knife underneath the cut Sorbet had made on the first day. “And things always look better when we can keep them symmetrical! Smile whilst I cut, passerotto, or I’ll cut a smile into your pretty mouth instead!”)
“Ah, don’t look so worried! We’ve never even wanted to keep one before.” He crouches down so he’s at your level. You’ve grown very used to the feeling of the cold concrete on your mostly bare skin. “So the ball is really in your court! Just be good for us and show us you’re going to be as well-behaved and agreeable as we know you are, and we’ll even let you sleep in the bed with us!”
A bed . . . a bed would be nice. Even between the two of them. Anything would be better, surely, than the basement and the weapons wall leering down at you and the knowledge that the metal table against the wall is a butcher’s table, and Sorbet is a very capable butcher.
“Okay,” you say, your voice just as broken and dry as ever. You have no way of counting the hours down here, but you think it might have been three days since they’d fed you – and themselves, and you don’t know if that makes it better or worse - the flesh of another human being.
“I knew you’d be good for us! Ah, I should’ve let Sorbet pick sooner – I’ve never liked one of our toys this much before!” His fingers wrap around your poor, sore wrist, pulling you up and onto your feet. You stumble, overbalancing, pressing into him.
You can smell blood and iron and gunpowder, and Gelato grins at how your head falls onto his shoulder with that crooked smile that makes you prickle in fear.
“Mm.” He says. “You’re soft.” His hand skims over your back, calloused palm tracing the curve of your spine, and you’re suddenly horribly aware as he takes a shuddering breath that you’re only in your underwear. Sorbet and Gelato have made no move to do that to you, beyond being touchy as they rub their hands over your skin and make you open your mouth to kiss and suck on gun barrels, but . . . the way they talk about you and look at you, you’d be a fool to not realise they think about it. “Heh. I shouldn’t do this until Sorbet is here too.” There’s a note of wistfulness in his voice – and he palms at your ass, giving it a hard tap that makes you jerk. “Mm. Plenty of time later. C’mon.”
You’re dragged over to the weapons wall. Now that you’re closer to the stairs, you can hear rhythmic thumping from above – like a body being dragged over floorboards.
“What do you think?” Gelato asks, proudly, looking over all of the various weapons that cover it. “Which one do you want to use?”
Your brain short circuits.
“U-use?” You ask, eyes fluttering from gun to blade to axe to all manner of other instruments you don’t quite yet have a name for.
“Of course,” Gelato groans. He pushes into your back, gripping your cheeks between thumb and forefinger, forcing you to take them all in. Something hard and hot presses against the base of your ass. “I like blades, but maybe a gun would be better for your first time? Mmm, but you’d look so pretty with a knife in your hand . . .” He sighs again, the exhale shuddering with what you realise is arousal.
“I d-don’t . . . want to . . . hurt anyone—”
You have a dawning fear of what it is they’re going to ask you to do. Gelato laughs, rusty, creaking like hinges.
“So you want us to hurt you instead? After all of this?” His words in your ear are almost sibilant, wrapping around your heart and squeezing like snakes. “After how hard you’ve tried? You’d just give up?”
“G-Gelato—” you whimper his name, hoping that it will appeal to whatever better nature he might have – it does not. The fingers on your face squeeze a little tighter.
“If you don’t pick, I will,” he growls. “And if you don’t do it . . . you’ll have picked your own murder weapon too, tesoro.”
Your hand is trembling violently as you reach out.
Your fingers brush the handle of a gun and Gelato tenses – but you think about gun recoil. You think about accidentally shooting yourself.
(You, briefly, think about shooting them – but you are weak, and tired, and even if you got one of them the other would be on you in moments. They have the upper hand by far in such a scenario, and you are not willing to make your death any more painful than it might already be.)
Your hand fastens around the hilt of a large knife, a glinting blade that looks so sharp it could cut through glass. The tip is slightly curved; you do not know for what purpose. Gelato groans aloud again.
“Good choice,” he breathes against your ear. His words are shuddering, breathless. “We should . . . make sure it’s in peak condition. In case we need to sharpen it, you understand?”
You nod. You can feel your own heart beating in your ears. You hate to admit it, but there’s something about the arousal that’s saturating Gelato’s voice and the way that his body is pressed against yours that’s making something deep and primal stir within you, making you aware that there’s a curl of heat in your lower belly that is suffusing you all over with warmth.
You’re moved around by the shoulders. Gelato’s face is pink with pleasure, his pale hair tousled wildly, his mouth half open as he holds out his arm for you.
“Cut,” he growls, and your eyes fly to his in alarm.
Is he asking you to . . . But . . .
“Just a little,” he demands. “Cut a little to make sure it’s sharp enough. If you push too hard, you know I could gut you in five seconds, don’t you? Make me fucking bleed.”
It’s an urgent, breathless request.
“I—I don’t want to hurt you--” You’re whimpering, tears spilling down your cheeks. You realise that you’re right. You don’t want to hurt him. Gelato and Sorbet are all you have.
“I’m asking you to,” his eyes are sharp. “I don’t repeat myself.”
The blade cuts into his skin too easily, even with the short sharp slash you force yourself to make across his forearm. They’re already such a mass of scars, you’re frightened- but the noise that escapes Gelato is nothing short of animalistic, a low, rough panting as if you’ve kissed him and not slit his skin open.
“Perfect,” he pants.
And then he calls Sorbet.
Sorbet is dragging another body down the stairs. Another man – middle-aged, balding, sobbing and offering money to your other captor and desperate pleas that Sorbet is utterly immune to as he’s unceremoniously dumped in the centre of the floor.
“I’ve already broken his ankles,” Sorbet says, as if he’s informing you of a change in the weather. His eyes trail over the knife clutched in your sweaty grip and the neat gash on Gelato’s forearm, lips curving into a smile. “He’s an easy kill for you, amore.”
It’s the first time Sorbet has called you a pet name, his deep voice an intimate caress. You want to please him. You want him to call you nice things again.
Your knees buckle and the man they want you to kill looks up at you with terrified eyes, like a prey animal aware that it’s been cornered.
You have never considered yourself a predator. Your wrist twitches. You don’t know if you can do it.
Hands rest on your hips, a chin on your shoulder, as Gelato murmurs with ragged breath.
“Don’t forget what I said--” and then, there’s a flick, and Gelato is holding a knife against your neck whilst you hold the life of this man in your hands. Sorbet chuckles, the sound like dark velvet. It’s a soft sound. It’s too soft, for what the two of them are – too soft like the way they kiss each other, the way their fingers tangle together, the way they call each other pet names and drape themselves around one another and share in everything.
The pocket knife that Gelato is holding against your throat is sharp.
“Do it,” he urges. He’s still excited. “We know you can.”
The knife cuts through the man so easily. You never realised how fragile human beings are – how soft and easily they yield to something sharp. You barely hear the death gurgle in his throat.
You break.
And when Gelato grabs your face again and kisses you hungry and wanting, you kiss him back like he and Sorbet are the loves of your life.
And perhaps they are.
Gelato’s fingers are in your underwear, tugging it down your thighs. He’s rutting against your leg hungrily, groaning with every flex of his hips, as fingers dip inside of you and you whine against how good they feel, how right, how full. There is blood on your hands as you drag them over his shoulders, but neither Sorbet nor Gelato say anything about the blood getting on the sheets of their bed--
Their bedroom is warm, cosy, intimate. There’s a photograph of the two of them on the nightstand, a packet of half-finished cigarettes, a lighter engraved with ‘S&G’ in fancy calligraphy. It does not feel like the bedroom of monsters – but as soft pillows meet your bruised, scraped up back, you do not care.
You do not care about anything as Sorbet’s hand cradles the back of your head and he tugs down his trousers, pumping his cock slowly as he watches your mouth fall open. He chuckles at the look in your eyes.
You cannot see it yourself, but you have been thoroughly broken. For you, it’s the most natural thing in the world to whimper and paw at him, practically begging him to fuck your throat – because Sorbet and Gelato take care of you, don’t they? Like you more than they’ve liked anyone else? Are going to keep you?
And you want to please them, more than anything.
“Alright, amore,” he purrs, low and dark still. “I’ll let you suck my cock whilst Gelatino gets you ready for him.”
“Thank you,” you croak out, and Sorbet drags his thumb over one of the scars on your cheek with a fond cast to his eyes.
“Good,” he praises, and you open your mouth and manage to wrap your lips around the tip. He hisses through his teeth at the sensation of your tongue tracing his slit; at the way you work your mouth further and take in more of him as if there’s nothing else in the world you’d rather do than suck on him. His hand does not move from the back of your head as he watches you struggle to fit him in.
He knows he’s big. He knows they haven’t been giving you enough fluids – but it’s so very entertaining and endearing to watch you try anyway, and feel your tongue make clumsy attempts at pleasing him.
You groan around his cock as you feel Gelato’s fingers scissor inside of you, opening you up wider – your hips squirm, your cheeks getting warm, your face scrunching at the stretch.
“We’re both going to have you,” Sorbet tells you. “We’ve waited far too long to not. But . . . I’m more patient than my Gelatino is, so I’m going to fuck your throat first – do you understand me, tesoro?”
You nod, and Sorbet watches you make a conscious effort to relax your throat for him.
So obedient. So good. So lovely with blood on your face and a knife in your hand. Sorbet thinks he’ll show you how to prepare the bodies; Gelato gets far too distracted and excited, but you . . . It would be nice to have an assistant at the butcher table, wouldn’t it?
And he knows that Gelato wants to show you the rest of his knives, wants to teach you to spar, wants to let you strike the killing blow – he’s never seen his Gelato so soft with someone who isn’t him before, and if he were jealous of nature (if he hadn’t had a part in thoroughly breaking you so that you could be their perfect shared little toy) . . . perhaps he’d choke you out with his cock right now.
He is not. He’d chosen you, and he’s thrilled that they’ve finally found their pet project. So when he begins to fuck your throat in earnest, he makes sure to be lenient and give you a few moments to breathe in between strokes.
You take it so well. He hears Gelato groan in pleasure, pausing in what he’s doing to enjoy the sight of Sorbet fucking your mouth and the utterly brainless look in your own. So sweet. So cute. So perfectly moulded into what they wanted. His cock throbs as he looks at the cuts marring your skin that they’ve left and the blood all over your hands and the slash on his own arm.
His cock nudges between your legs and you whine broken and needy, the noise only barely escaping around the stretch of your lips.
“Don’t worry,” he promises. “I’ll fill you up first--”
He does. He is not gentle; his cock is smaller than Sorbet’s, but it doesn’t mean that it’s small. You jerk under his grip, your throat and your body tightening around both of them. But Gelato isn’t deterred, as sharp snaps of his hips have him buried deep inside of you and you’re helpless between them as they fuck you hungry and fast.
You lose track of the amount you come that night.
You lose track of the amount they come; inside of you, across your stomach, your thighs, your face. They kiss you and bite you and kiss one another until you can’t tell where each of them starts and each of them ends. They scoop their cum from between your legs and press it into your mouth until you swallow. Sorbet fucks you whilst Gelato holds a knife to your throat.
You fall into exhausted sleep with Sorbet’s hips leisurely pumping into you, your chest heaving, the sheets beneath you a mass of blood and cum and tears and drool and sweat. Gelato traces patterns on your thigh as Sorbet stills with his cock still buried deep inside of you, and the two boyfriends share a fond look over their new . . .
They’re not sure what to call you, yet. Their toys last days, at most. They had considered making you a pet, but both of them know that the fondness that surges through them at the sight of your face finally peaceful and you in their mess and their bed is far more than just that.
“I think tomorrow,” Sorbet murmurs, “we should carve our names into them.”

I always imagined Abbacchio to be a bit of a teacher’s pet as a kid lol. Your writing brings me life tysm!!!!
warnings for abusive family, human experimentation, misogyny, illness, hospitals, death, etc!
Risotto’s family did not care much about him. He’s the middle child of five - they grew up in a rural part of Sicily, in a house that used to be a farmhouse but was merely a house by the time Risotto came along (aside from a flock of chickens constantly in the gardens). He had a traditional Italian family full of people - various aunts, uncles and cousins - but his cousin was his favourite, seeing in Risotto’s quiet nature something similar to his own. Risotto was uncomfortable with there being too many people around and found his home life cramped and uncomfortable and loud. At the local village school he was often hunted out for games of sport (his height and muscle growing in at an early age), but he shied away from making friends, not sure how to handle himself around people who shouted and laughed, envying his siblings for everything seeming so natural. He often stayed with the cousin, and it’s through them he discovered metal music and his now signature look. His parents didn’t have time for him, but his cousin always did, becoming a makeshift father figure where Risotto’s failed. He grew very attached, and as we know, his cousins death hit him hard.
Formaggio grew up with a single father; his mother simply disappeared in the middle of the night and he never heard from her again. He was always loud, brash and cocky - his father was much the same way. They moved around from place to place, his father taking odd jobs to sustain them and never really getting the hang of them. His father was fairly young and a perpetual teenager, and Formaggio was much the same way. Despite living in occasional poverty, he always had a smile and he and his father were close to one another. He did not really make friends - other children were aware of his unwashed clothes, the fact his lunch was not made as neatly as theirs, the fact that his address was a one-bedroom apartment on the bad side of town - so he turned to acting out and violence, gaining a reputation as a Badly Behaved Child. His father fell into Passione in the need to support his son, and like father like son, Formaggio followed in his footsteps at fourteen (finding a camaraderie and sense of responsibility he never had at school and subsequently just stopping going there).
Illuso got into Passione for the money and the power. He was an only child and he had a nice upbringing, honestly - he just found himself not special at anything, and he desperately wanted to be. He flitted from hobby to hobby and interest to interest; he was clever and he noticed things, and neither of his parents really knew how to deal with their sharp-tongued child. He was a bit of a bully at school, but not the kind that is ever found out - Illuso’s bullying was quieter than that, whispered words and rumours that never seemed to find their way back to him. He was well-acquainted with blackmail before he turned sixteen. He knew how to sniff out weaknesses in other people - he was always surrounded by people, but it was a lottery as to whether they liked Illuso or whether they just didn’t want to be on his wrong side. Always willing to volunteer for things, too confident for his own good - eventually, he stopped caring about being ‘special’ at something, and just worked on being the ‘best around him’.
Melone’s backstory can be found here. Both of his parents were academics and lecturers in genetic science, and he’s the eldest child by eight years. His family moved around rather a lot. He has two younger sets of twins as siblings; one set of boys, and one set of girls. Growing up, his parents considered him less interesting and a little slow - he turned to science and genetics as a way to get their attention and praise; despite the fact he showed a natural affinity for it, by this time, they were far more interested in experimenting on their younger children and Melone was ignored. His nature is curious and insistent - he learnt to insist or to be ignored. He had to look after his younger siblings a lot growing up; they were home-schooled where he was not, and the strange separation of them and him and all of the children at school (Melone not quite fitting into either group) meant that he always seemed just a little off.
Prosciutto is a mafia man through and through. His family are entrenched in old bloodlines and uninvestigated deaths - unfortunately, though, they are a family that had somewhat fallen from grace by Prosciutto’s birth. The definition of faded glamour and keeping up appearances; rooms in a big, drafty old house that have an old bed and a falling apart dressing table. His father always talked to him about how it was his and his brothers’ job to keep the bloodline going - a traditional chauvinist of a man. His mother was very quiet and pretty; she encouraged him to small interests like old music and fashion, but was always silent around her husband. He grew up knowing his life was expendable. Youngest son of two; his elder brother died within months of finally being given his assignment within Passione and honestly, Prosciutto knows his father would rather he have died. A quiet little boy who did not make friends (he had a tutor) and had too much of the weight of the world on his shoulders in the knowledge of how many of his mother’s jewels were pasteboard, where the guns were kept, and just how many people he saw regularly were murderers. At his assignment at sixteen, Prosciutto had to learn exactly how to blend in, because many of the mafiosos he was suddenly surrounded by did not appreciate what they saw as his superiority.
Pesci was an only child of a single mother; his father passed away when he was young. He was rather sickly growing up, and it made his mother indulgent - despite growing up fairly middle class, he never wanted for anything, and they lived well beyond their means. His mother fussed over him, always afraid that he was going to have a relapse into his childhood illness - very much a child wrapped in cotton wool. It gave him his own complex about taking risks; he didn’t want to get hurt. He didn’t want to be rejected by other children. He was slow at his schoolwork but devoted to his mother, and other children saw him as a prime target to bully. He was kicked around a lot at school and it eventually made him too easy to subdue when he suddenly filled out and shot up and became a threat; found himself, too often, a henchman to more articulate, meaner children. Grateful to be accepted, he went along with the flow, despite feeling in the very core of his gut that he was disgusted by them. He ended up in Passione because his mother needed medical treatment and in trying to sort it out realised just how much debt they were in.
Ghiaccio just had a normal run-of-the-mill described as ‘average’ by everyone upbringing - both of his parents, an only child, a mother with a professional job, middle-class. His father was partially deaf - in my experience, people with deaf parents either speak very loudly or very quietly, and Ghiaccio has gone for the former. He learnt LIS at a very early age, and it’s part of the reason he can be so anal about pronunciation and language as a whole - he’s utterly fascinated by it, and that fascination started in early childhood. His parents were also indulgent of him, but having a younger brother meant that he didn’t get the full brunt of that indulgence - his brother was a little more of a ‘rough and tumble’ boy. He liked football and weights, and when he took up a sport Ghiaccio’s parents decided Ghiaccio should learn to do something too and asked him what he thought - they were surprised when he said ice skating, but figured he would go into ice hockey or something. He didn’t. For a while, he was fairly well-known in the competitive figure skating under eighteens circuit. It gave him two things; one, a competitive need to win and be good at things (and a propensity to tantrum when he lost) and two, a taste for flashy, expensive things (have you seen this man’s car). His parents eventually didn’t know how to deal with his arrogance, and he fell into Passione based on a ‘sponsor’ he ended up embroiled with at nineteen when his parents didn’t want to fund his ‘hobby’ anymore (they kept pouring resources into his younger brother, of course - Ghiaccio always felt a bit like they didn’t take him seriously). He left ice skating competitively behind, but he couldn’t leave behind the nice things or the anger issues he accrued.
I’ve written about Sorbet and Gelato’s childhood/backstory here! But a brief, shorter version:
Gelato had a loving family and a privileged upbringing. Always enough money, always enough to eat - an only child, who perhaps was a little rowdy at school but whomst his parents were very proud of. Both of them were traditional types; thinks a man should be strong, should be the real driving force of all relationships - they were extremely proud of him going into the army. Cleverer than people tend to give him credit for, sharp-eyed, a constant humming need to be doing something with his hands.
Sorbet was orphaned at a young age in a house fire and taken in by a church orphanage. He’s quiet but equally clever; his cleverness tends to be a little less in your face. He was a comforting presence to other people and took care of the younger boys (even now, he feels a sense of duty to some of La Squadra) - being low-voiced, soothing and commanding. He spent a lot of time reading. The church orphanage was poor; Sorbet has learnt to appreciate luxury where Gelato takes it for granted and it’s part of the reason he’s so concerned with finances even in his forties.
Abbacchio grew up in a houseful of women. His father left when he was still young; he was . . . not a nice man, and Abbacchio has vague memories of his mother carefully applying concealer over black eyes. It’s part of the reason Abbacchio became a police officer - knowing that he was still out there, not paying for what he’d done . . . Abbacchio wanted to ensure other people did not go through it. He had a little sister (by six years) who adored him, and his grandmother (who had once been an opera singer and still had a touch of that old-time glamour). He was fairly well off; at least, after he and his mother went to live with her mother again. His grandmother was EXTREMELY indulgent of her serious pretty-eyed grandson (his affinity for opera comes from her) who wanted so hard to be a Good Man. He was made fun of as a child for being a teacher’s pet and a nerd, you’re right - he adopted being a goth and dressing like that fairly early in his life. Nobody was going to threaten to punch him in leather and black lipstick, he thought - and nobody, too, needed to know that his CD player was blasting Monteverdi and not heavy metal.
Mista was the only child of an unreliable mother and a father who left when he was four (he kept very vaguely in touch; Mista has three little sisters who he sees occasionally but keeps quiet about his employ to. After the events of VA, he’s established a fund for each of them, but he wasn’t really permitted to see them much growing up). Even after his parents leaving and his neighbour’s loss of an eye (and the subsequent setting in of his fear of the number four), he was an easy-going child who made friends easily and smiled at all and sundry; he was never particularly book-clever, but he was good-natured and had many friends. His mother’s lack of reliability meant that he became very fond of simple things other people took for granted - when she died, he was sad, but his life did not change much. He’d already learnt to fend for himself when it came to food and the like; often coming home to an empty house and simply making do. (The lack of food in the house is part of the reason he gained such an affinity for things he saw as luxuries like wines and cheeses). He learnt to use his dark eyes and charming smile and warm nature to win sleepovers with schoolfriends and evening meals with their parents. Always a little bit behind his peers in having cool gadgets or interesting stories, Mista was content just to have a simple life and good health.

Thanks to a kind person, I finally have a link to an English Translation of the recently released short novel about Risotto Nero, called „Risotto Nero Observes“, written by Ayato Toya and translated by Hudgyn Sasdarl. It was published in the official JOJO SUMMER Magazine 2025 along with other short novels, also some festuring La Squadra members. But this one here is focusing on Risotto Nero and it is honestly a fantastic read. I would appreciate if you also share it around, so more people learn about more about Risotto Nero, since he is a beloved character of the JJBA fandom.
⚠️TW for: Canon typical violence (also involving children), murder and the whole mafia stuff you should be familiar with.
Risotto Nero Observes Ayato Toya Translated by Hudgyn Sasdarl The jet-black executioner swears only by the code of blood and iron… Chapter
Below the cut, I will talk about my own thoughts about the short novel of my favorite character in fiction. It is just yapping in the end I needed to write down, but I also tried to analyze some stuff. I am not a native English speaker, so I am sorry for my mistakes in language. I did also not proof read it, so I am sorry for missing words or typos.
I am also adding some art I made of him because why not ✂️
First of all. Hi, my name is Kuja. I am a dedicated Risotto Nero centric artist and also a yumejoshi of him. Maybe you saw my art before if you like this character. If you do, maybe you also know how much this character means to me since he basically changed my life and brought me back into art and is the reason I found a wonderful community. Which is the reason I want to take my time and talk about this novel in my own interpretations and observations.
In short, this novel is exactly what I wanted to read about regarding to Risotto Nero.
It features no romance, introduces all of the members of La Squadra Esecuzioni and their steuggles, new characters and mostly is focusing on Risotto and his thought process, aka. his „observations“ which will be a reoccuring theme in this novel, which makes it a joy to read.
The short novel is timeline wise in the time around Christmas playing shortly after the murder of Gelato and Sorbet, which will also be a central theme.
Chapter 0:
A short scene where we witness Risotto Nero committing another successful assassination. As imagined, he is mostly using the camouflage abilities of Metallica to hunt down his targets. The kind of k1llingd he does keep being brutal and bloody, as we know later on also often to send an example and message from the highest of Passione.
It is interesting how peaceful the scene was written with the festive christmas music in the background which slowly fades into horror as the corpse is getting discovered by the passengers on that festive day.
Highlight of this chapter is for sure the absolutely high contrast of Risotto's deeds. On the one hand taking a life in a cold way, as expected from the leader of a hitman team. On the other we are experiencing a softer side on him, which many fans often speculated about. The target of Risotto's mission was just kicking a young pickpocketing girl away, making her almost fall to the ground and hurting her while Risotto, still invisible, catching her hand. Her only seeing iron powder on her small hands, probably wondering what just happened.
Seriously guys, this scene alone made me as a die hard Risotto Yume tremble in joy since it confirmed a lot of my own interpretations and headcanons about him, like having a soft spot for the younger generation. He did NOT have to help the girl, but he did, without ever getting anything in return since the girl could not even see him.
Risotto then sends a message of the confirmation of the hit to the boss who interestingly immediatly answers. Diavolo, are you camping your phone and computer all day?
Chapter 1:
One of the most interesting chapters for me personally because of the amount we learn about the hitman team again by observing how they interact with each other.
It is early in the morning and the hitman team is interacting not in person, but in a computer group chat, their personalities shining through.
We learn that Risotto Nero is currently residing inside a room which is part of a cheap apartment inside the outskirts of Naples. So is this only a temporary spot? It is written that Risotto brought his computer so it seems like he is only for a brief time living there. Do they have actual homes? Or do the members rather travel between short lived hideout spots from Passione? In the end, it is no luxury how they live. And this story often reminds us about this fact.
The hitman team is discussing about the most recent news recieved from the boss himself, about a new hit of a man called Rossi who plans to flee real soon and that Passione is entering the business of waste disposal. And two of their members should forcefully (a no won’t get accepted) transferred into this new branch: Formaggio and Illuso. Which causes a big uproar in the chat. Not gonna lie, it is very charming how they all are interacting and even throwing jokes in between. You see once again they all seem to have close bonds to each other. The typical duos are interacting, Pesci with his anniki, Illuso and Formaggio and once again Melone and Ghiaccio who really seem to get each other well, how they interact with each other really tells a lot about their dynamic.
Only one is not fully participating and rather „observing“, Risotto Nero, who tries to read in between the messages and how his subordinates are really feeling in this moment.
Also because of the most recent trauma they endured, the brutal loss of Sorbet and Gelato, two members who were tired of being treated like dirt and dismissively by the whole organization. Not respected, awful pay and the high risk of losing their lives on the daily. It is always interesting how sympatheticly La Squadra Esecuzioni is written, sure, they are assassins for the most dangerous Italian mafia but you can still emphazise with them. Many of us probably can relate to these feelings, not being treated and paid properly for the hard work we do and wanting to get their deserved amount. Their coworkers and close friends being sent to another occupation without their consent. Their capabilities not respected. Who wants to be treated like this? Sure, the motives are mostly motivated in an egoistical sense compared to an altruistic like some members of Bruno‘s gang do, which is one of the main differences of these gangs. But this is also why the hitman team feels more close, since they operate and think as a group, they want the best for themselves, the others coming afterwards, contrary to wanting to stop entire branches of their business for a better cause as a whole.
Even the boss is sending them more and more not so subtile threats how they have to submit and be obedient to his will. Like Pesci realizes, the messages are hidden in numbers. „Smorfia napoletana“ as it is called and we learn about which is a very clever stylistic choice of this novel which are basically numbers with meaning. And the boss knows very well what he wants to communicate to his hitman team, that he has the sole power over them.
And then we have Risotto Nero again. Who is, like I mentioned before, rarely participating in the talk and more inside his head and thoughts, trying to form plans, trying to see patterns and things. Now even more than before.
Because he feels guilty. Because he feels responsible for the death of two of his subordinates. He is angry at himself to not catching on clues of their planned rebellion against the organization. For not preventing them. For not hinder their deaths. In the end, he has to grief again. Something Risotto Nero always has trouble to deal and process. Once again there were people close to him taken away from him. By death. Something he now himself is known for. He, as the jet-black executioner of Passione. It is quite ironic.
Risotto really can’t let these thoughts of guilt go, he constantly is tormening himself about his and now decided to be even more keen on his men. To analyze, to think about their next steps, to prevent such a mistake. To observe.
It is not only that Risotto Nero is „surface“ level invested in his men. No, he „couldn't“ lose anyone else. He is responsible, as their leader. But why he can’t lose them?
Is it just because of the team itself? Do endure even more consequences by the boss and being dissolved by being useless? Is it because of the team spirit? Is it because he needs them for being able to work in the first place? Or is it actually because he can’t stomach any more losses? We don’t know anything about the lives of the hitman team outside their job. Do they have friends? Family? Or only each other? It seems they go around quite a lot, and being gangsters is not easy forming honest relationships between them and civilians. And even other teams inside Passione seem to be cautious, even hateful towards them. They don’t seem trustworthy for anyone else outside the team.
Also, this novel also confirms that Risotto truly cares about his subordinates since he is absolutely trying to analyze and insight for their mental states. He knows his team is processing trauma. They are still human. Luckily he knows as well how many of his members can deal with the stress or who of them is capable protecting themselves most efficiently. He thinks a lot, analyzes a lot and tries how to make a change and impact for their benefit and therefore a raise of the group morale. The mention that Risotto is thinking about giving Formaggio missons with a high chance of succeeding, just to improve his mental wellbeing because he alone found the corpse of Gelato…it tells so much about him. Risotto is absolutely observant and does not tolerate his own mistakes and puts on actual effort of being a good leader for his men. He does not want to any bad causality ever happen again between them. And losing them. As their leader, he needs to look out for the hitman team, they only have themselves.
After the team points out how quiet Risotto is the whole time, he tells them to take on this assassination by himself alone. He really is losing himself a lot inside his analytical thoughts.
Chapter 2:
This chapter is more revolving about the setting itself. We get to know the urgent this assassination is, putting pressure onto Risotto who usually keeps a cool head. Risotto will take out this murder of the soon trying to flee Rossi in a very crowded place, directly inside the mansion of this man who is tainted by very crude and unethical businesses himself. To put an example. Don’t mess with Passione. A job suited for Risotto’s brutal Stand capabilities.
The party being thrown in the luxurious mansion was right before Christmas, Rossi is intending to show his new adoptive son, Gennaro, another central character in this story.
This decadent luxury is a nice way to show again the difference of the worlds they live in.
By the way, it is very cute to imagine Risotto Nero inside a proper elegant suit he is wearing for this event. Sorry, needed to let this out.
In the next scene, an elderly couple speaks to Risotto about the over the top interior of the mansion. It made me actually laugh that Risotto was seriously being called „a wallflower“. I seriously can see this, he does not seem like the center of attention of a party. He also doesn't need to, he is supposed to be blending into the scene after all.
Afterwards Rossi appears into the spotlight and talking about the mystery of the „unopenable door“ and also just spewing out some meaningless anecdotes.
Also a rising and uncomfortable heat is described by the pair which is unsually also affecting Risotto Nero himself, which is surprising him. But it the reason is a sense of unease he tries to pinpoint to, until he realizes it is actually Metallica wriggling and moving inside his body and not actual nervousness about the mission itself. They are reaction to something inside this mansion which also is affecting Risotto‘s body. All this while he is planning how to cover the walls in red real soon.
Later on the party, Gennaro, a 14 year old boy is finally introduced to the story and guests, seemingly innocent and youthful, full of enthiusiasm.
Then the party guests were starting a tombola game, an Italian tradition, where we also get to know about the smorfia napoletana again and get introduced to new numbers and their meanings.
While Rossi and Gennaro are playing a farce in front of the crowd, Risotto thinks about the numbers and their meanings, as well as getting further affected by the temperature and discomfort inside his body.
The numbers are really dire and somewhat ironic when we take Risotto‘s backstory into account. 14 and 18, which are ages which his life turned around. 14 meaning „drunk“ and „18“ blood-stained. It is incredibly ironic just how these numbers describe his past, while the 90, before in his apartment room poster, is also appearing on his tombola card as well. His reaction and realizing these numbers was followed by a snort of him.
It really is amazing how much the author of this novel is taking Risotto‘s backstory into account and building onto that or referencing it. He constantly gets reminded of the cruel acts he decided to do many years ago which led him chose a path without any redemption.
Right after this, when the party and speech of Rossi is reaching its climax, Risotto plans to kill him, approaching him to close the Stand distance. It is interesting how he also is pointing on the target. It seems a bit suspicious, but the whole story is constantly describing that the others are not paying any attention towards Risotto Nero anways, he mostly blends in.
Also, Risotto seems to view himself as a „professional“ regarding his job as a hitman, not doing these murders for the fun of it. As long as they are paid and not caused by his own Vendetta. It seems like it is thrilling for him to catch up the ideal chance to carry out the murder for the most dramatic moment for reaching the biggest impact.
But right before Risotto could activate his Stand, the light faded, panic invokes between the guests and he lost track of his target who completely vanished after the lights come back to, the family of Rossi, his wife and Gennaro, worried about his absence and calling the police. But Risotto does not give up yet, further being suspicious of the unopenable door which not even the police who arrived could open.
After many unsuccessful attempts of opening the door and getting a new signal of Rossi outside the mansion, the police leaves again, making the party end.
It is very fascinating to witness Risotto Nero using his brain power to connect the dots and uncovering the secret of this unopenable door, using Metallica again to form objects like forks to the keyhole, which is also fake and therefore detecting a lie of Rossi losing its key. Risotto Nero has such an analytical and smart way to approach matters, trying to stay calm and composed. He knows this mission can't fail, the stakes are high.
Still, he fails to control his feelings once again, as stone faced as he is, a remark even his team mates are using towards him, which is truly sweet in a weird way, how they joke about this with their leader. He got a new message from the boss, who revealed how poorly Illuso and Formaggio will get paid and basically disrespected on the waste disposal branch. Succumbing to his anger, Risotto Nero breaks his phone, not realizing it until he hears the cracking sounds of the broken phone and through his Stand again inside his bloody hand, who seem to express his true thoughts and burning anger, screaming in their usual noises ordinary people can’t hear.
Metallica here in this novel acts very metaphorical as they really seem to be a vessle for his true feelings at times he has trouble expressing at the exterior. Be it the need of a leader of a hitman team, his past trauma or other reasons, but Risotto Nero often seems not in tune about his own feelings until later on. It is heartbreaking in my eyes that the unfair treatment of his men causes such reactions inside him. He does not want such a reality for them, he as a leader can’t allow to fail them again. And he is so sick of getting treated like this by the boss, his resentment growing stronger as well as his own rebellious spirit he tried to bury to protect his team, despite being treated worse every day. It is an endless circle of torment these hitmen need to endure. The boss basically told them to put their lives on the line, it is understable how enraged Risotto gets by that remark.
Risotto‘s appearance also gets briefly mentioned. He seems to have scarred lips, afding to his very rough a gruff apperance. Are these scars because of a neglect of himself of are these results of his past encounters?
But there was an even stronger reason making Metallica roar, the door seems to be connected and controlled with magnetism, also being most likely the reason for his own permanent discomfort on this place, which only faded within the power outage, which he now realized, the dots are connected now inside his head.
Chapter 3
In the end, the police did throw everyone outside before leaving but knowing Risotto and his Stand, He camouflages himself yet again and enters the mansion once more, iron will determonstion to uncover the secret and to carry out his bloody mission.
Inside he not only realizes all the stolen and proudly displayed good from Rossi, but also meets the adoptive son, Gennaro, once again, who detects the presence of Risotto despite not being able to see him. All while Rossi knocks and screams behind the unopenable door.
The mystery as Risotto figured out was an electromagnet inside the door, which is also the cause of his Stand reacting before.
Interestingly this novel confirms another headcanon I had about Risotto since a long time, as he tells Gennaro about the mechanism of the electomagnet which he read inside a book about waste disposal. He really seems like an intellectual and sophisticated person, reason he seems to be naturally curious about a lot of the world and its functions around him.
Gennaro lies about his reason being here, but the knife in his hand reveals his true intention, as Risotto observes, seeing the boy as a hindrance and thinking about peacefully assassinating him as well if he keeps being an obstacle of his urgent mission. Seeing that Risotto thinks about this dark act but not carrying out this murder of a young man, shows his hestitation despite him being a ruthless and experienced hitman. But, he is also seemingly intruiged by him, curious about his motives and the plan of the boy and realizing the benefit of unrevealing the crime of the young man. Also we can see that Risotto very well decides how „brutally“ he will take out a murder of a person.
Risotto lays out his own observations and detective work how the disappearance of Rossi was made possible during the power outage, which was caused by the extreme indoor heating and the lights of the christmas tree.
Quite funny how Risotto also uses his Stand powers to make a metal Tombola piece float in the air, it must have confused the boy to no end, not knowing about the supernatural Stands. He reveals another meaning of the numbers, 77, the devil, which was Gennaro‘s own remark against his new father. The man the young boy planned to kill himself, just like Risotto Nero.
Risotto is seemingly impressed how well crafted Gennaro is in planning his own assassination, but even the boy begins to flinch by the ghostly presence of Risotto, being called a grim reaper, which was also always part of his overall design.
He is curious about the motives of the boy, who wants to reveal the secret in front of Rossi himself, so they release him, with ordering the boy to drop the knife.
Rossi, completely out of breath, storms out of the room behind the door, questioning his son about the reasons of his hostile acts.
Then Gennaro revealed it all, how much Rossi has tormented him all these years after making him witness the torturing and murder of his own mother, just to get adopted by him again, probably making him suffer even more behind the disguise of a noble man, a habit of Rossi‘s twisted games. He even underestimated the boy to remember him after all these years, showing his arrogance and belittlement of others. All while the boy suffered in silcence and played an act, until now the time for his own assassination and revenge has come.
A motive and reason we all know defines Risotto all to well, his whole life. We get a glimpse of a backflash inside Risotto‘s head of the funeral of his cousin, many years ago. His mind turning dark just like his clothes. Full of rage and seeking justice of losing someone caused by another person. A person who will soon endure the same cruel fate, to make up for it again. But at what cost?
Risotto sees himself inside the boy. He was in he same situation many years ago, being 14 as well, his mind and spirit not able to process the loss of a family member. But choosing revenge led Risotto to a path of no redemption, a path of endless crime, just to get disrespected at the daily and putting his own life at risk, just to witness his loved ones getting erased from life again, not being able to counter the perpetrator this time and to submit.
No, this is a scenario Risotto experienced himself, he knows what this path will involve. I am very sure Risotto wants another fate for this boy, despite knowing the cathartic feeling of getting the revenge one seeked out for many years. Would Risotto chose this path himself again when he was reliving time? A scenario we will never know an answer of but here we see him protecting the boy for basically ruining his future life, a life without a real future, filled with crime, surrounded by mostly mean spirited people despite the closest ones.
So he tells the boy leave, threathening him to kill him if he refuses. He will carry out the mission, not only for the job, but also to spare the boy a life full of darkness.
But Gennaro does not accept, he suffered way too much from what Rossi has done, sleepless nights, trauma, feeling helpless, he only wants the release of revenge. The boy shows a strong will of resolve. And Risoto can relate so much, he truly understand what the boy is feeling. He knows these moments, this burning hatred and just bringing justice to end this once and for all. This is affecting Risotto even in such a way, that he lets his guard down, revealing his appearance, making the boy gasp in surprise by his dark and ghostly presence.
The moment of tension and two spitits connecting only got suddenly interrupted by the police forces, not hestitating to shoot on Risotto Nero as a quick act to save Rossi. The leader shortly needed a moment to process what just happened but decided to remove enough iron from the bodies of the officers to make them unconscious - a fairly peaceful decision for a hitman. But is it because he does not want to harm people who are not involved in his job or is it rather to spare the uproar of the corpses of police workers? Maybe a mix, still, it shows quite a new light of Risotto, being surrounded by members of his team who do not spare the lives of people close to their target mission. At least sometimes. Even tho, these hitmen seem all to have their own moral codex they act on.
After all, Risotto Nero is still cruel and cold enough to traumatize the people around his targets with his brutal and merciless killings, like he just wanted to do some hours ago with all the guests and family Rossi. I really enjoy how morally grey Risotto is written which really makes him an appealing and interesting character, and I try to say this as unbiased as possible.
While this short moment of being focused on the police, Rossi takes action and stabs Gennaro with his own knife he dropped earlier, directly into the stomach of the young man.
Now it was finally the time Risotto needed to act, bringing a gruesome end and torturing Rossi with nails made from Metallica‘s powers, making him suffer a long time before he finishes finally his assassination.
It is very symbolic that Risotto basically crucifies Rossi with the way he pierced iron nails through hus hands, it is very symbolic for a multitude of reasons and made me think.
If we think about Christian Religion, the punishment of being cruzified was reserved for the sinners. A way to show dominance and control by the upper hand instances, which is Passione.
It was often used for „low-life“ criminals and slaves back then, basically mocking the luxurious life of Rossi.
The dramatic display of the corpse for everyone to see to give off a warning: do not act like this sinner. It is an open display of Rossi‘s long life of wrongdoings and crime and how he now must suffer the consequences, caused by his sins. Since it is also a tool of enforcing and showing social control, it also fits the method of Passione scaring other gangsters and enemies. They are in control and on the top. They are showing psychological warfare and invoking public fear.
But also, does this act also is an act of mercy to bring salvation to Gennaro? Making Rossi die for his cruel sins to release the darkened spirit of the young man? It is quite interesting to think about this potential interpretation.
Risotto then rushed to Gennaro, picking him up, telling him that Rossi will now suffer for his sins. As Gennaro is seemingly dying in Risotto‘s arms, smiling, he found finally peace of his mind. His last act is showing the tombola card with the number 90 again, and we finally get know its meaning.
Fear.
This is what Gennaro wanted to overcome, feared and suffering by his past, not being able to act, not knowing if the feel of being haunted by Rossi will ever fleet away, now that the boy was adopted by him, probably even abused by new methods of Rossi‘s twisted mind.
Fear is what is haunting Risotto Nero and his team since weeks, enforced by the boss, treating them like dogs, making with the hitman team whatever he feels to, not respecting them, humiliating them. No regard for their talents, always reminding Risotto of his failure as a leader he cannot stop feeling guilty for. He needs to act. He can’t let this continue. But it is fear he also feels, not wanting to lose more of his men. But what is the other path? An endless cycle of ridicule? Risotto has enough. In this moment the brave acts of Gennaro must have inspired him to also put a stop onto all this. He can’t let fear to keep controlling him and his men.
And then, while Risotto is scolding Gennaro in an endearing way, talking to him like as if he was scolding one of his subordinates, like a mentor, he transforms the iron tile inside the boys hand and forms a staple.
Chapter 4
A short time skip. The news were talking about the gruesome murder of Rossi by a gangster and how this gangster also tortured a young boy was saved by a „skilled police officer with a stapler“
…a story wirhout any sense. Only Risotto Nero, Gennaro and the reader know the truth about what happened. Risotto did an heroic act, no one will ever know about, probably not even Gennaro himself, since he was barely left conscious when Risotto stapled his wounds with Metallica.
It is unbelievably tragic but also needed, as Risotto Nero has a reputation to hold. On this day, he took a life but he also saved another. And not only in a physical way, Risotto prevented Gennaro, who returned into a orphanage, to chose the same path as him many years ago. He brought salvation to his tormented and young spirit, finally removing his tantalizer from life. The boy has now again a chance of a normal life, a life, Risotto does not have himself.
Once again, Risotto brought success to Passione, without ever getting properly rewarded, payment as low as ever. Nothing changed. Only Risotto‘s resolve has.
He gathered his men again, this time in person, inside their usual hiding spot we know of. Which seems to be a rare occurance as the hitman team remarks, last time being the day they got these dreadful horrible packages of thin pieces of one of their members.
The waste disposal transfer seems to be on hold, Illuso and Formaggio being spared from changing teams this time, and they begin bantering again. Knowing they are essential to the team and valueing being among them.
This scene also confirms the basically fanon of the fandom that Prosciutto is a smoker - he indeed does.
Suddenly Risotto began to talk, he is resolved. The boss won’t continue to play with them like cheap and disposable puppets. The incident with the determined Gennaro and collecting his strength depsite still being scared, made him realize to act as well. Or else he and his men will keep this vicious cycle of being a team of assassins who despite carrying out the missions with success, still are only good enough to get potentially transferred to deal with garbage. It is a clear message, like the boss always does.
It is finally enough, time to free themselves from the chains.
He swears to overthrow the boss and organization. His will and decision strong as iron. Wanting to claim what has been taken from „HIM“.
This remark seems to be a direct hint on his pride, how much he personally has lost in his life and how sick he is of all this, fighting for a better future, for himself. But also for his team. To avenge the deaths of Sorbet and Gelato, to make their loss not being unresolved.
His subordinates being in silence, making Risotto questioning how they will decide, will they stay loyal to the team or to the organization of Passione? By now, they can only hold themselves only the little clues and whereabouts of the boss, events which unfold in the storyline of Vento Aureo.
Until then, Risotto Nero will continue to observe, to catch every clue to fulfill his revenge and bring dark glory and a better future for his team, them alone, against the remaining world. The stakes are high, him being the leader is responsible for the outcome of this resolve. Unfortunately, we know how this decision will turn out in the end. They were so close but it still was all for nothing, the mostly self motivated team of assassins' fate has already decided and it will lose against the altruistic motives of the gang of Bruno Bucciarati.
Okay, this was long. I don’t know how many of you really did read this. If you did,
Thank you.
As a summary, this short novel is a fantasticly written story about Risotto Nero and his team of hitmen, also shining with hints of fanservice, as confirming many ideas the fans had about them, and letting them all stay in character without ever breaking depsite all the bantery conversations, how close these men are. In the end, they are all they have.
This story really did Risotto Nero justice as a character, not once ever conflicting with the hints we knew about his personality but also expanding on them.
He is ruthless, cold and stone-faced, as we witnessed already in the original source material. But what we learned in this novel about him throws a new light on him, showing also his softer side.
He IS concerned about his teammates, he feels guilty about his failures as a leader, he can absolutely not cope with grief and has trouble managing his outbursts of anger - even targeting against himself and hurting himself. He looks after the wellbeing if his men, concerned about their mental health and respecting their trauma, not ever ridiculing them and their feelings. Risotto Nero is absolutely not emotionless, his inner world and thoughts are rich, which he just isn’t able to express for probably a multitude of reasons. He even shows compassion for strangers. There was no reason to save the girl from falling harshly to the ground, there was no reason to spare Gennaro, he even knows Risotto‘s face and could be therefore a danger in the future.
But he did help them. And the most cruel fact about this is, no one of them or the others, probably not even his men, will know about these acts and truths (only if they will maybe figure it out by themselves by the staples).
He is not a person who wants to be a hero, he knows he isn’t and he will never be, too many lives did he take by now. But, these little deeds to mercy and kindness are probably a secret of him, no one ever needs to know about. He has his own reasons to act, his own way. His own moral code and his own way to act.
This all makes Risotto Nero such a very well written character in my eyes, combining some of the worst human sins but also showing signs of compassion and protectiveness, like preventing others from a path full of pain or wanting to fight for his men, to finally get what they deserve.
I thank the author of this story, Ayato Toya, by a lot. This novel was a joy to read, which I already did by a couple of times. Also thanks to Hudgyn for the wonderful translation, which is very well and clearly written.
This novel probably strenghtened my own feelings for this character by a lot. I can’t express how happy I am this was written at all, if now this story gets and animated adaptation, my life will be complete. Come on, who does not want to see Risotto inside a suit?
Thank you for reading.
Oh yeah, here is my artwork of him again I made for this novel, I did imagine how he might look with a suit.
Yes, yes, YES! This entire novel was such a wonderful read and confirmed things about Risotto that the fandom could just sense but couldn't confirm– until now!
Like Risotto's soft spot for kids, the fact that he's more of a chill wallflower who wears all black than a "super edgy stone-faced emo guy", the fact that he does feel nervousness and regret and panic, that Metallica shows the fear and agony that he never lets his own face show, that he is inquisitive, driven to knowledge, and will go off on tangents about things he's knowledgeable about (for example also, when he 'diagnosed' Doppio with DID), and that at the end of the day he understood the inherent need for revenge for crimes against family and saved the boy's life in the end when the evil man got the upper hand.
He. Is. A. Good. Guy.
Maybe not morally, but he has a good head on his shoulders and a good heart under those giant tits of his (sorry 😛), and whenever he takes to the screen or the page, he BECOMES the main character. He has that energy about him. He's interesting, he's mysterious, he's caring, he's thoughtful, he's tough as nails (get it?), and the amount of violence and carnage he can deliver is astonishing.
He's not a hero but he's not a villain either. He just wants what's best for his team, whom he cares for, and had a bad way of going about it.
I really enjoyed this read and despite the fact that I began writing my fic before this came out, I feel like I've already written him pretty close and I'm thankful for this further insight into his and the rest of La Squadra's character. I have other thoughts on this that I can't quite articulate (I just woke up), but I loved your analysis and I also have just generally agreed with your headcanons in the past so I thought I'd share!
This light novel WILL be influencing how Risotto is portrayed in my writing in the future, trust lmao
And OF COURSE Diavolo is waiting by the computer! He was probably bored as shit hiding from the world with his dogs out 😭 My chronically online king 💕💕
Okay okay so, I don't often think about all of them smoking, primarily just two of them. But then I remember that this is an assassination group and I realize that most of them have smoked for at least one reason or another, I've just never thought about it in detail.
Risotto smokes, though not very often. I made a post about him and his smoking habits that I think pretty much sums up what I think about him and smoking. Though to put a few thoughts here: Ris doesn't care for drugs, won't smoke anything other than kreteks, and only smokes when he's in a particularly bad mood or feeling extremely nostalgic.
Prosciutto smokes and he smokes a lot. He's not a chainsmoker, but he's pretty damn close to being one when it comes to him being stressed. Which, as the team's treasurer, can be a lot worse closer to the end/beginning of the month when rent is due. He's got expensive tastes and only smokes premium, filtered, Italian made cigarettes.
Pesci does not smoke. He hates the smell that most give off and he hates the taste. He made an exception only once after seeing Prosciutto smoke, and abandoned it after the first inhale nearly knocked him out. He's tried pot, but that smells just as bad and he didn't like the experience when he did end up getting a second hand high.
Melone used to smoke, but turned to drinking instead. Before, when he was stressed before graduating or panicked over the fact that the cops might find out he was working in a drug cover up, he would smoke. An old roommate got him in the habit and it took him a while to break it. Every so often, when he's alone with his thoughts for too long, he'll itch for a cigarette. He combats it by going to bother Ghiaccio.
Ghiaccio does not smoke. Like Pesci, he hates the smell and taste of smoke of any kind. He's also adamant that he can't perform his best if his lungs are "full of gunk and tar that will end up killing [him]", a sentiment shared by Risotto, but taken much more seriously. Additionally, his father used to smoke and Ghiaccio has very negative feelings surrounding him. Anything that can trigger thoughts back to his dad can and will set him off.
Formaggio smokes and is the most experimental when it comes to smoking. He doesn't have any particular brand he sticks to and doesn't care if it's a cigarette or a blunt. He started smoking when he was a teenager and only started smoking more when his father was hospitalized. What got him in trouble a lot was how he would "test the merchandise" before selling it and would always come up short when it came to paying his dealer back. You can find him shrinking down to snag cigarettes from Prosciutto, Sorbet, Gelato, and Illuso, but he never goes after Risotto's smokes.
Illuso smokes, but swears he doesn't. Which is actually hilarious because he smokes black and mild's - some of the strongest smelling cigarettes. Doesn't really care what brand, as long as it's a BnM. To keep up his ruse, he always goes into the mirror realm to smoke so that his room doesn't smell, but it always clings to his clothes.
Sorbet smokes with Gelato, but only smokes alone if he's having a bout of PTSD. Sorbet was a soldier and, before he was discharged from the military, was a damn good shot. Unfortunately for him, that meant he was one of the men that had to do some of the more gruesome missions. Being an assassin is one thing, killing innocent people was another and he's never forgotten about those people that he knew were innocent. Don't bother him when he's smoking alone, not unless you want to potentially get hurt.
Gelato almost exclusively smokes with Sorbet, but has been known to share a smoke with Prosciutto and Risotto. Gelato, having at one time been a therapist, is surprisingly a great listener and pretty easy to talk to, if you're open to talking to him and he's open to listening to you. As one of the oldest and primary members of La Squadra, Gelato saw each new recruit and could tell if there was more to them than what their records stated. While smoking isn't one of his favorite things to do, he did end up getting a bit of an addiction before and after his time as a therapist.
