Dark humor, absurdity, and so many comedy talents in one movie, WOW!

All We Imagine as Light (2024) by Payal Kapadia
Finally seen it! The New Yorker called it a "Gorgeous Mumbai Rhapsody" and there is something to it, the way Kapadia portrayed the city.
There is attentiveness and gentleness in this movie many of us seek in the real world. At the same time, it's not cheesy or soppy in any way. I love the friendships that these women form in spite of their differences.
Funny Girl (1968) by William Wyler
OK, I finally watched it, because it's such an iconic musical.
I appreciate Barbra Streisand's performance - I DO! - and the on-stage numbers with her are funny, spectacular and great to watch.
But the rest is just... meh.
The Wonder (2022) by Sebastián Lelio
Florence Pugh is indeed magnetic. Her blue costume, so different from other people's brownish clothes, makes her even more of an outsider - I like that. The green and windy Irish landscapes with humble, dark houses holding dark secrets draw you to the screen. It doesn't even matter if the plot goes somewhat slow.
When it starts, you might wonder if it's a horror movie. I'm happy it's not, even with all the horrors that it tells.
All in all, a very enjoyable periodic drama with great acting and beutiful pictures.

I watched right after The Truman Show as a 90s nostalgia thing.
Well, OK, maybe ONE opinion about the hyperallergic fiance: The scene in the restaurant with Meg Ryan? SOOO not believable.

Long time no see, Truman! Amazing how we still crave to see authentic emotions on screen, but now everyone tries to me a Truman in a way, posting their lives and streaming them live on social media.
Volveréis (Septembre sans attendre) (2024) by Jonás Trueba
At one point I got afraid they would overcomplicate the narrative, but all in all it was OK.
A bit repetitive and tiring in some points, but clever and funny at times.
Itsaso Arana instantly draws attention when she appears on the screen. Maybe it's the hair...? Just joking, she really is magnetic.
Primal Fear (1996) by Gregory Hoblit
My streaming platform was pushing it so hard for so long, than one evening I just gave in and watched it. I don't regret it, I love a good legal thriller from time to time.
It's not a masterpiece, but it's a good watch with great young Edward Norton. The only thing that was clearly outdated was the score, from time to time throwing me off. Otherwise, thank you, straming pplatform, I had a nice evening watching it.
Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003) by Charles Herman-Wurmfeld
This time I watched it (I think for the second time) right after the original Legally Blonde and boy oh boy, how could this be so much worse than the first movie?
The story is nonsensical, the protagonist is nothing more than a stupidly cheerful little barbie, and the only message seems to be 'be cheerful, wear pink and everything will go as you wish'.
It's a real disappointment.

Perfect Days (2023) by Wim Wenders
I've finally seen it. In the reviews that I've read 'beautiful' seems to be the key word. I agree, it is really beautiful: the pictures, the story, the music... And yet my main emotion after watching it, especially the last scene—wonderfully played by Kōji Yakusho—was sadness.
The Apprentice (2024) by Ali Abbasi
The Trump's faces, especially the 'duck' lips... Golden.
Tacky music suits the tacky, superficial world where there's no place for deeper emotions, just power and money. Funny? Yes, when you forget it's the reality right now.
It made me think of Apt Pupil (1998).
Gaucho Gaucho (2024) by Michael Dweck & Gregory Kershaw
Every frame of that movie is worth putting on a wall as a beautiful picture. The landscapes and portraits are just stunning.
But is it more than an ode to gauchos' unique world? Is it still a documentary?
That might be more of a philosofical question than an objection for some, but I've missed the 'ugly' parts of a gaucho's life.
Serpico (1973) by Sidney Lumet
At first I didn't realize it was a biographical picture, but when you know it, some things and choices make more sense.
Worth watching at least for the oh so many Al Pacino's fantastic outfits... I know, it might seem superficial of me, but if it wasn't for them, I would be (more) bored.
Pride & Prejudice (2005) by Joe Wright
I haven't seen this one for a while. Even after a few viewings it's still a good watch. Not a huge fan of Keira, but I don't mind her here.
Saturday Night (2024) by Jason Reitman
A massive chaos that you know is gonna end up just fine - that's a happy ending story I needed and I got it.
Fun, frantic, vibrant.
