DESIGN A TITAN TRAPPER: A GUIDE
Bare minimum visual research from me on the culture that appeared for 1 episode and has no deeper exploration than that. (If I missed anything I may make add it later.)
This guide points out things that are most common. Trends of Titan Trapper's looks. So the "rules" are pretty loose and you can bravely add any variations to the design that would be faithful to your character and their story.
We only have the paintings and drawings of Titan Trappers from that vague really far past past. So there is what we can take from it.
Not full Titan-Fursuit/Disguise: head only - skull and furr of shoulder length.
Leather belts (wip) Crossing the chest in an X shape.
Cape on the back. Reaches the ground.
Breechcloth \ loincloth. Can be made with the furr or just skin \ leather.
Macho bodybuilder type. Bulging raw muscles of pure physical strength.
Barbarian-like aesthetic? I don't know how else to explain it.
Clear He-Man inspiration.
The last point actually makes me imagine that Titan Trappers have a historical/legendary figure that is just litteraly a He-Man with all the show's characters also being there. If you watched that old show, get all that inspiration for TT's cultural heritage! Pwese! It would be so awesome.
Fake Titan-paw gloves and boots.
Fake tail dragging on the ground behind its owner.
The dark colour of the furrs (doesn't have to be black).
The colours of different fursuit parts may not match with each other.
The way the TT's treated King in "Edge of the world" may imply that full-fursuiting is technically possible, but there is no examples of that being the case in that congregation.
As long as possible. That includes facial hair.
Is used as a part of the titan fursuit. Can cover up the face under the skull or be a full-on replacement for the fake fur on the head and neck if big enough.
Clearly has different colour/hue from the fake titan fur.
Barely styled if at all. In most cases just flows free.
Long robes touching the ground. Damaged at the bottom edge.
Cloth based belts around their body (maybe waist) with the knot in the front.
Undershirt with long sleeves. (Especially if the main robe is sleeveless.)
Mantle? Capelet? Poncho? - An overwear covering both shoulders and doesn't open in the front. Doesn't have sleeves and just lies on top of the person's back, chest, shoulders and arms. Elbow-length, circle in overall shape.
Fake fur can stick out from under the mantle but above the undershirt when the the robe is sleeveless.
Cape? An option to take instead of the mantle. Varies in length.
Clothing such as a robe, undershirt or a mantle can have a different coloured trimming along the edges.
Both arms are completely covered. From the shoulder to the wrist. Either by the robe, urdershirt, fur or armor!
Isn't necessary for the recognisability since not all the TT's wear it.
One single shoulder round pad.
Hip armor / Fauld. Simmetrical on both hips.
Generaly Titan Trappers designs give out a mushroom-like siluette.
Colored whites of the eyes. Can vary from a very light to pretty bright, but never white.
No lights in their eyes (probably caused by proximity to the Archivist-magic).
Blue face tattoes. Celectial themes (suns/moons/stars).
It would be cool to come up with a reason why Titan Trappers have a tradition to tattoo their faces (and most likely whole bodies) and what meaning do they put in those. Maybe they are trying to copy the Archivists that they worship or it is their way to show their loyalty to their religion
A concept that wasn't utilized in the episode and show itself. So all we have on the tradional priesthood attires for TT's is this single concept art image.
Things that can be pointed out in these that are unique to priests are:
Golden accessories / jewelry. Be it hornes, neck, skull or hair.
Sleeveless overwear on top of the robe.
Fancier clothes. Different patterns.
Aaand the last design (C) looks similar to Tarak. The only differences are the lack of obvious jewelry, hairstyling, the existance of wings and having fauld instead of fancy clothing.
Also, out of all Titan Trappers whose faces were shown, Tarak is the only one who has a tattoo that copletely covers half of his face. That also reminds me about the face of the only member of the Archivist we had seen in the show.
So, if we take a guess that Tarak is a priest for the local congregation of TT's, then having big tattos like that may also be related to that role in the community. They also may also serve as an imitation of their God's - The Great Huntsman - looks.
Tarak also is the only Titan Trapper who has the light in his eyes. I have no idea why.
Some other subclass of wariors (speculation):
These guys appear only 2 times through the whole episode, so we litteraly know nothing about them.
This ""warior"" subclass seems to have a single style uniform. Which may be compared to the ways how the emperor-coven scouts dress: with no uniqueness or personality. That also means, I dont have to describe any general trends here!
Bill has clothes that are distinct enough from the general population of the congregation, so we can assume it can be related to his position as a leader of his people. (And not simply due to his size. (Although that would be funny. (Him wearing kids clothes bc nothing else fits him.)))
I will make a list but it is just a describtion of what that single character is wearing.
Candle on the top of the Titan's skull. Why? No idea. Maybe it is a sign of leadership because it isn't found anywhere else.
Shorter than average robe (to the knee level). Most likely opens in the front.
A waist bag/satchel on the belt.
Wide Medieval Pants. (I searched for the name of it but that is the best search prompt that would give me the results I was looking for. It also may be "Viking poofy pants" or "Lancer pants") Apparently wiki describes them as pantaloons.
Golden vambraces / braces and greaves OR Golden cuffs from wrist to elbow and knee-high socks (?)
Bill has average-looking face tattoos, so you are free to do whatever. (Maybe this implies democratic choice of a leader from the common-folk but I am not sure.)
Examples of people not following trends of fashion. Slaaay.
YOU DON'T NEED TO FOLLLOW THE TRENDS TO A T TO MAKE YOUR TITAN TRAPPER OC RECOGNISABLE AS SUCH!
BUT THEY MAY BE HELPFUL TO UNDERSTAND THE GENERAL DIRECTION FOR THE DESIGN!
