old-ish utena stuff
things that this tweet made me imagine which almost definitely did not happen:
- a band of brigands waylaying a merchant caravan on the road and then after stealing everything, making the terrified merchants listen to their dissertations because SOMEONE HAS TO
- elite colleges in the ottoman empire putting out those “wondering what you can do with your history degree? here’s what our graduates have gone on to do!!” pamphlets and it’s just. a large list of Crimes
why isn’t this a sitcom? get on this Pruluflix or whatever you’re called.

Four roommates are extraterrestrials who have taken human form in the hopes of learning about Earth’s culture. Unfortunately, each alien is from a different planet and believes the other three are normal humans.
I would read this
OH MY GOD
Starring Jack Black, The Rock, Jeff Goldblum and Taika Waititi
And Mads Mikkelsen, the human neighbour that is weird enough that all the aliens think he’s an alien too.
they all are sure hes an alien and will go talk to him about how hard it is being an alien on earth, will even talk really frankly to him about it, but weirdly no matter what they say hes always like ‘oh yeah i can relate’
It got about a thousand times better than the last time I reblogged this I think.
The suitors when Penelope says she’s still not finished Odysseus’ funeral shroud even though she’s been working on it for three years straight
I think the reason I love Voyager so much is that you can take any two characters and pair them together and I am invested, and that doesn’t happen for me with the other shows (or at least, not to the same extent).
This is a crew where even if the episode plot is thread-bare or cliche or complete, utter nonsense - it doesn’t matter, because their interactions make it worth it. The other series tend to have stronger singular episodes, and even stronger characters, but the Voyager crew is just fun to watch. Even Neelix, who can be so insufferable, can grab and hold my attention as he seeks advice from Tuvok or chases after Janeway chattering the whole time. Kim comforting Kes, Janeway and Tom nerding out over history, the Doctor respecting Chakotay’s spirituality, Seven and B’elanna bonding over their feelings of otherness - any and every combination has occurred on the show and has been delved into and it is just so delightful. I’m a sucker for well-tied and strong crew dynamics and boy, does Voyager deliver.
Also every character has sexual tension with every other character and if that doesn’t make for the best shenanigans than I don’t know what you want.
Star Trek, Mudd’s Women by William Ware Theiss, Fall 1966/ Moschino by Jeremy Scott, Fall 2018
The bottom cut outs on the Scott dress match those on the pink dress on the far left. So the designer incorporated elements of both dresses. Wow.
holy shit you’re right. I didn’t even notice that at first so distracted by that chest cutout and GREEN!SPARKLES!

Betty Bates is a goddamn hero.
—“Betty Bates, Lady-at-Law” in Hit Comics #47 (1947)
“And while we’re on the subject, I’d like to say a few words about escapism. I hear the term bandied about as if it’s a bad thing. As if “escapist” fiction is a cheap opiate used by the muddled and the foolish and the deluded, and the only fiction that is worthy, for adults or for children, is mimetic fiction, mirroring the worst of the world the reader finds herself in. If you were trapped in an impossible situation, in an unpleasant place, with people who meant you ill, and someone offered you a temporary escape, why wouldn’t you take it? And escapist fiction is just that: fiction that opens a door, shows the sunlight outside, gives you a place to go where you are in control, are with people you want to be with(and books are real places, make no mistake about that); and more importantly, during your escape, books can also give you knowledge about the world and your predicament, give you weapons, give you armour: real things you can take back into your prison. Skills and knowledge and tools you can use to escape for real. As JRR Tolkien reminded us, the only people who inveigh against escape are jailers.”
— Neil Gaiman, from theguardian.com (via thensiur)
