I know I haven't been on this account for ages, in fact I haven't been on Tumblr for ages but yeah. But I just remembered the time when I had a video call with Zuho and I had no idea what to do and I knew he was tired and I was on holiday in Greece so I decided to just show him the beach, and I showed it for like a good minute. He at first was ready to "perform" but after a while eased himself into the process and relaxed. And he said he wanted to go to the beach (he said it several times).

And literally less than 24 hours later he posted an insta story of him being on the beach.

That was so special... to be able to give him that. I know it might not be connected. But I like to think it was giving him the inspiration to take a small break.

Being told I'm too old to be into Kpop is always funny.

It's like I'm not supposed to have an interest or hobbies after I pass a certain age. People think I should devote all my free time to making myself look good for a man. So I can attract a man, and also get married and have kids.

I'm only 30 by the way.

People already do this for western boy bands this was half of tumblr when one direction was huge.

Ok, but I gotta butt in here.

What people who are not in the kpop circles need to understand that while yes, people do make infantalizing content about the idols (kpop stars) it is in fact the industry itself and their management companies that infantalize them first.

A lot of consumers of kpop are underage, many of them early teens and this is a time when kids are still learning about rules and what's okay and what's not. They are past the "can't touch a hot stove" stage but social rules ARE being formed. So when all they see in programs is 20+ year old people acting childishly, cutely and essentially like a 5 year old, it becomes okay to treat them like that.

Don't blame the fandoms, blame the industry.

True true the companies are making bank from pushing the whole "soft boi" thing so it def isn't just the fandom to blame for this stuff

but wasn't that something that the k-pop fandom started doing and then it became a narrative the industry started pushing onto the idols so that more of their (mostly female) viewers would be attracted (platonically and romantically) to the idols or am I just tripping?

I gotta be honest, I only entered the whole kpop scene in 2008, so I am not sure what happened before then, but even back then it was normal for idols to act all cute. I no longer remember if it was to the extent it is nowadays, but the problem didn't start yesterday.

Sellability (yes, I'm making up words) IS a big factor when it comes to this industry. The whole shift in the last 6-7 years to what is essentially sports marketing (competitive marketing that pits groups against each other and emphasizes memorabilia) and all the tech allowing the "boyfriend experience" to be deepened made things worse imo.

But the boyfriend experience was there before as well. Not to this extent because there was no Bubble so that fans could receive good morning messages from their idols, or boyfriend pictures on insta or blablabla but it was there.
