every enemy in the game emits a signal ring before it attacks, just like the enemies in the suplex prototype. this way it’s easy to tell who will attack when while you’re focusing on another enemy, because a big glowing ring will appear out of the corner of your eye to warn you about the oncoming threat.

in addition, bigger enemies (like the missile box on the far right here) emit multiple rings if they’re about to launch a powerful attack, and feasibly the amount of rings could simply be increased the more dangerous an attack is

please look forward to the logical conclusion of this mechanic, where an enemy charges up like a 10-ring attack and tonberries you with the slowest moving, least intimidating bullet in the world
