i like the drama Gabriella adds to the plot and want her to remain on the show but i need to attack her with my claws
this is the best thing i have seen all day.
getting a bit tired of seeing all this doomposting about TVL... why are you suddenly expecting the worst of a show that's always done its best to make a great adaptation of TVC (a great adaptation not meaning it's perfectly in line with the original material, mind you, just that it does it justice, but it will always be adapted - to the new medium, to the new audience, to the new societal context, etc.)?
the season is not even over and I have seen so many many posts about such character or such plotline being ruined (reading this about marius who had all of 5 minutes of screen time was low-key hilarious). what happened to letting the tale seduce you? what happened to 'we are getting Lestat's pov'? do you think that Lestat, who's been recently betrayed, who's at (yet another) low point in his life, is being truthful about everyone and everything? read between the lines, look between the cracks... why are you complaining about not getting his version of the trial when he's not even reached his time in NOLA in his storytelling?!
and finally... why are you, again, complaining about the characters doing problematic shit on the characters doing problematic shit show? gabistat's incestual relationship is obviously a defining event for Lestatine and honestly it's being depicted very well imo, Louis's fucked up relationship to Claudia and his tendency to exploitation is very much in line with the first seasons (honestly loved the way they explored Loustat's grief in 3×05), Armand is Armand: he does unhinged stuff behind everyone's back trying to fix what he thinks needs to be fixed (I literally saw someone complain about him pushing Larry to suicide... that's the guy who organised Claudia's murder and you're complaining about fucking Larry??), Daniel is a truth-seeking asshole like he's always been, he rejoices in extracting the truth from his subjects and yeah sometimes that means you'll see him gloat as someone is telling him about a deeply traumatic experience - it's a bit unhinged but it's very in line with what they've always shown us.
I don't understand all the complaining, these are the same characters, acting as they always have, only in a different context and from a different pov. it almost feels like some ppl were expecting the show to be like 'you see this flawed character, they're actually not flawed this way and a better person than was previously portrayed'.
I don't know... I don't know if I'm right and I don't know if I'm even making sense, and maybe I'm the one who's reading all this too superficially, but I'm genuinely tired of seeing all this negativity.
At a time when Netflix is getting roundly criticized for forcing its shows to treat the audience like we have all of two brain cells to rub together, The Vampire Lestat is out here volleying everything from 70s gay references to 1700s Dutch Republic references at the speed of light while saying, "You don't get it? Well, that's a fucking you problem."
And I love that for us.
