One week wonât hurt, right? Maybe two. Theyâre so excited to eat all the foods theyâve been missing that they can barely sleep. They get up early to go to the store and pile their cart with every tasty looking item they see. Theyâve gone overboard, but itâs just two weeks. Itâs best to eat everything they want so they wonât still be desiring things when they go back on their diet.
When they get home, they turn on the tv and tear into a tub of ice cream. God, how theyâve missed ice cream. Before long, their spoon scrapes the bottom of the tub. Theyâre shocked, but shrug. Itâs okay because itâs only for two weeks. The body wonât gain much from just two weeks according to what theyâve read, so they finish off the last bits without worry.Â
Perhaps itâs the excitement of having so many goodies around, or maybe their brain doesnât know they ate because it wasnât paying attention, but they still feel hungry. They get up to make some waffles, sausage, and eggs - a proper breakfast since itâs finally time for it. They snack on some pretzels while cooking.Â
The greasy sweet breakfast leaves them satisfied until a little before lunch. They grab a snack, then make some cheesy pasta and garlic bread for lunch. At dinner time, they decide to really go all out and pick up fast food, ordering everything that looks good. The night is finished with some more snacking in front of the tv.
The following days are the same, but cooking is replaced with fast food and take out. They might as well take a break from cooking too. And exercise. Why not just take a two week break from everything?Â
When the two weeks end, theyâre surprised at how much theyâve changed. The first day returning to their diet is rough, and they end up quitting on the second day. A little rest and then theyâll get back to it, they say. For every few days they somewhat manage their old routine, there are a few days of rest, and it gets harder and harder to go back to the dieting and exercising. Eventually, they just start putting it off. âIâll go back tomorrow,â they say, only to repeat the same thing the next day. Before they know it, a year has passed and theyâve been overeating junk food for months without a single trip to the gym.
