Entropy (S11E11) | Red Light (S12E22)

Cass cleared his throat purposefully. “Right well… I had to. I had to get you to…” Cass, now hearing his thought process out loud for the first time, he realized how fucked it sounded. “I couldn’t tell you the truth because I hadn’t accepted it fully for myself. I wasn’t able to face the man I was… the man I am.” Cass paused, stoic as ever, but in desperate need of the moment to collect himself and quell his emotions, his internal storm.
For the most part, she really just wanted to punch him. All she went through in wake of their break up could have been avoided had he not been a selfish prick. Or a least one not to her, that’s how she liked it. “Oh my god you’re an outstanding piece of shit Cassie.” She adds those last letters on his name purely to get a rise out of him. “I really just-I could have felt that way about you. I chose to be with you so, I don’t know why you wouldn’t just be honest with me. It’s a disappointment.”
noah-inhiselement:
Yeah, true.
Something has got to be different with you, Echo! I’ve gone through 13 new boyfriends and 7 rebound girlfriends. You mean to tell me nothing’s changed in the… how long has it bee since we’ve seen each other?
No, I always wanted to be an evil circus trainer. You know, one that trained animals to eat crying disruptive kids so..my dreams haven’t been achieved. Crime is still really easy, powers and all. So I don’t really need to work but I do. At a little fortune teller-y/witchy gift shop. It’s cute. Like..3 or 4 years. Something like that.
youwillcallmecass:
Cass stared Echo down, “Am I lying now? You, of all people, should be able to tell.” Why was she still talking to him? She usually made her grand exit by now, before Cass could get a chance to explain anything complicated. “Of course, it was real. I always cared for you. I never cared for anybody else. I just… couldn’t account for what I had done. My powers… I didn’t have as much control as I have now…” It pained Cass to admit this, but he knew it would gain him some much-needed compassion.
It takes almost all of the self control she harbors which, knowingly is not a lot, not to punch him right there. If what he was saying was true, thena ll the drama and the pain and the anger she held toward him was for nothing. Every single time she was hurting it was because what? Because he decided to lie and let her hear something he knew would hurt her but protect himself. “Why the fuck would you do that? Why would you lie to me Cass!? Everything I felt and experienced as a result of this was because you were a fucking coward? Are you serious?”
noah-inhiselement:
That’s dark, dude.
I’m on a new path to self-discovery, individuality, and maturity and stuff! I reunited with my family, have control of my powers (most of the time), and when I go to the grocery store I don’t just buy candy.
You’d be concerned if it was anything less.
Sounds positive and hopeful as usual. Nothing’s really changed I suppose.
noah-inhiselement:
Okay. That much is true.
So, how have you been? Chipper every day, I hope.
Oh yeah. Living every day like it’s my last, then waking up disappointed that it wasn’t.
youwillcallmecass:
Cass was tight-lipped for a moment, calculating coldly. It wasn’t that he didn’t understand the gravity of the situation or how much it hurt Echo… he just couldn’t express those parts of the situation. Perhaps he simply lacked the conversation skills. No, that was bullshit. “Echo…” he sucked in a breath, “I’ll tell you one thing: there is no ‘why I did it’. Because, and I swear to you, I didn’t do it intentionally… Yes, I wanted with every fiber of my being for you to be with me. But I didn’t know that I had the power to make you-”
“…I didn’t think I could make you do anything.”
Just the way in which he moved and react she could tell this was a tense conversation she already didn’t want to have. The start of something terrible. Much like the High School Musical hit only..the exact opposite. “That’s either some bullshit or you fucking lied to me the first time I asked you. You said it was all fake, that you were doing it the whole time and nothing we did was real. That’s what you told me.” It didn’t matter how she felt, not until she had a solid explanation, revelation or whatever she needed from him.
noah-inhiselement:
Whaaaat? I am?! It must be all the weed I smoked. Besides, I know you’re just saying that mean shit to get my goat, to grind my gears, to upset my poor, little feelings.
Oh, Echo. Have you forgotten? I’m the only human being on the planet who’s impervious to your snark.
No, you’re mistakin’. You don’t have little feelings, they’re quite big.
You and God it seems.
noah-inhiselement:
Yes, that crazy shit. People are dumb. They’re just dumb. They say dumb things and do dumb stuff and you just gotta help ‘em ‘cause they’re dumb and you’re not.
I hope I’m the first to tell you. Kinda want to see the light leave your eyes when you hear it. You know you’re like..on the dumber side of the spectrum? Nice and all but..a little daft.
youwillcallmecass:
Cass leaned back, reserved. “Fine.” he spoke glumly, as though being glum justified his past actions. The truth was he agreed with Echo, he believed he was trapped- damned- without her forgiveness. And she, so fair and just, was content to let him suffer for all eternity it seemed. “I won’t bother you anymore.”
Echo raises a brow, it’s amazing how he manages to find a way to feel entitled in spite of it all. If she wasn’t so used to it she would have made a bigger deal. For now she was past done with him. “I don’t think you understand what you did, or why it’s such a big deal. And you never really told me why you did it. So there’s no grounds for forgiveness. We are far from the ground, somewhere in Alaska on a helicopter.” There she goes drifting from the point.
noah-inhiselement:
Yeah. It’s good thing some idiots wrote a whole book on what they think he likes and dislikes. Just for my convenience, of course.
Imagine wasting all that time to further your own ideas when you could just..have your own opinions and beliefs? Crazy shit.
noah-inhiselement:
When people asked me how I spell my name, I tell them it’s spelled the way God intended. Geddit? Geddit?
Hard to rely on the rules of an imaginary figure, is it not?
youwillcallmecass:
“Look, I know in the past I was an asshole. And I know that now because of that I am less than deserving of your patience, or your forgiveness.” Cass paused and took some time to look away, look down, appear saddened and disheartened, whether he was feigning these feelings or truly meant them was hard to tell. “However, I think I am worthy of at least a fresh start, to begin anew. So can you give me that chance?”
“Asshole is really a kind term.” She corrects, arms crossed tightly to her chest. “The only thing you’re worthy of is a swift kick to the face, Cass. Fuck off.”
Intruders / Future!Noah
Noah’s smile altered itself into something more… pleasant. “Ah, Echo. My apologies, I thought you were some one,” he paused for a moment, “more threatening.” He stood now and approached her with arms held out slightly, as if to welcome her. The stud at the top of his cane rested atop Noah’s ring and middle finger, his hands upturned, and twinkled in the light. Noah chuckled outwardly, “Fury Academy. All those pathetic heroes.” The word was like a cold medicine given to a child feigning sickness, sorely misplaced. They were face to face now, Noah standing several inches taller than she. “Is that why you’ve come, my dear?” He leaned in to whisper: “Do you miss the torture?”
At a younger time, Echo would have perhaps argued with him for awhile about how threatening she really was, but at this point in their lives the insults were harmless, and nothing of that sort mattered. Noah’s demeanor had changed drastically, and despite the change their personalities still melded together in harmony like they always had. People would say that this was how soulmates were, but they’d argue, they’d never address any romantic ties, not now, barley ever. “They are the next Avengers, Noah. Show some respect.” She commented with a airy chuckle. Soon after her attention was drawn to Noah as he got closer, surely if it was anywhere else she would be in trouble. “I seem to remember myself as the beholder of torture. You’re have to take the torture scepter from me in order to have control now.”
Noah let out a deep sigh that was pronounced further by the thick grey smoke that left his lips with it. Noah could feel his heart contracting tighter than his lungs were at the introduction of smoke. He was getting light-headed instantly. “Damn, I’m a fucking light-weight.” he chuckled to himself, almost sleepily, as he offered her the joint. “I dunno, man. Just. I dunno. I’m always sort of thinking about it. It never really goes away. It’s in the back of my head all the time… I, I….” he felt tears forming in his eyes, like a sea of angry men pounding on their cages in hopes of a reckless and savage escape. “It was my fault. I… killed him.” He bit down hard on his bottom lip, though it trembled still, and let thick streams of tears race down his thin cheeks.
Echo was possibly the worst person in the art of consolidation, but she pushed through it until she was dead for Noah, she’d at least always try to understand. It was simply unfortunate that Noah had found a best friend in her, so troubled by this love that she couldn’t sympathize with. Taking the joint from him she took a long drag and then blew it out and up incase Noah wanted a chance to play with hers as well. She held it back to him as she clung to his left arm and sort of leaned on him. “It’s not your fault, Noah. You couldn’t have known, you didn’t know he really wasn’t ready, he didn’t even know.”
Noah hadn’t had a cigarette in a very long time. He hadn’t even had weed in a very long time. But times were starting to fee a lot like the tone of the third Harry Potter movie and he wasn’t in the mood to deal with it. So he smoked. “I’ve been thinking a lot.” he stopped abruptly. Paused for a long time. Then continued. “I’ve been thinking a lot about Andrew…” he gulped, “and what I did to him.” Noah took a long drag and let the smoke leak out of his mouth in billowing sheets. His morbid sense of humor arose as he manipulated the smoke, shaping it into a more complex shape. From abstract art to a concrete shape. Noah had come a long way from making squares and triangle out of smoke rings.
Among Noah’s musings and bubbly behavior always stood this pitted darkness, this one incident, this one boy that ripped through everything and it scared Echo beyond belief that someone could have this effect, the same way she feared love. “Why? Why are you thinking about it, Noah?” She ran her hand through the smoke to rid of the negative shape.
Intruders / Future!Noah
Noah sat back in a trademark lazy-boy position with his feet propped up. “If you’ve come barging in to vanquish me,” he announced without looking at the stranger who had intruded upon his evening, “and have me imprisoned for all my crimes against humanity… just go away, I don’t have time to kill you as slowly as I would,” he chuckled and let greedy eyes fall on the other, “like to.”
Echo simply rose a brow, she had assumed her hadn’t taken the time to even acknowledge who came barging into his room anymore. “In what lifetime have you known me to vanquish, hm?” Unless that vanquishing was necessary to knock down the stupid dreams of children at Fury, of course. “Besides, I’d be honored to be tortured by you.”
