Day #102 - The ‘non-people’

I don’t do a lot of portrait shots but wanted to share this on my tumblr blog as it’s something very close to my heart. Aside from running my new business & family life, since january with a group of other local volunteers we’ve been running a homework club for homeless children based in the affluent town of Annecy. These ‘non-people’ have been swept under the radar, the children go to local schools but then are forced to sleep in car parks’ shop doors, parks etc from april to november - today was the day of their expulsion so we went to the refuge to show these lovely children & their families a friendly face, show our support or simply offer a hug.

They are trying to stage a sit-in & create awareness to their fight for the right to asylum, work & a normal life. The children are studious, polite & I feel privileged to have spent time with them. They dream of being future doctors, dentists lawyers & their capacity to adapt to their extremely basic living conditions & constant insecurity with warmth & a smile is awe-inspiring. I mean these kids really rock !! they can be tired or ill but they’ve come to our little club to work, read, play always with an amazing amount of happiness.

I wanted to share just a little piece of their story with you because I think they deserve to be acknowledged & come onto the radar. <3
