@imetgodsheblack
just a reminder that "say her name" is a phrase and movement for Black women and girls who have been victims of police brutality and other anti-Black violence. i get wanting to show solidarity for briana boston and the undeniably unfair persecution and arrest of someone for saying a phrase, but let's not co-opt language from a movement centered around fighting against erasure of violence against Black women and girls, and misogynoir, while trying to lift up the story of someone else. solidarity work means being mindful throughout
Oh God, not this again 😭 thank you for being willing to speak up, though.
Black Webseries
it’s important for Black people to be able to represent ourselves. fortunately, with the internet, websites such as Youtube seem to be the place to do that considering we are quite far from owning our own images in popular television and film. internet webseries have much more ownership over their series than those on television or in theaters, and thus more flexibility, diversity, and a closer connection to feedback from the targeted audience (i.e. other Black people).
here’s a list of a few i’ve found on youtube:
The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl
Ask A Black Man
The Unwritten Rules
Brothers with No Game
Afro City
Milk + Honey
Between Women
SPIN
All About the McKenzies
The Couple
The Number
Roomieloverfriends
TRUTH
PuNanny Diaries
Makutano Junction
FAIL SHOW
Venus vs Mars
Black and Single
Single Until Proven Guilty
some are good and some are not so good. but this is simply to put them out there. also, feel free to add to the list….

Webseries Worth Watching: For The Boys
Scripted webseries, especially good quality ones, are so hard to find nowadays. Most black queer representation can now be found online in reality series. I love my ratchet black gay reality shows, but I also missed the amazing black scripted webseries that were abundant 5-6 years ago. Thankfully For The Boys is a new black queer scripted series that is definitely worth watching.
The show focuses on 3 black queer best friends in NYC.
From left to right…
There’s Anthony (played by Chandler Bryant) who is exploring his gender fluidity and embracing his feminine side by wearing more feminine clothing, including heels to work.
There’s Syed (played by Lamont Walker) who is a playboy who is trying to get his life together, while also enjoying hooking up but still being hung up on an ex.
Lastly there’s Jamal (played by Andrew Coleman) who is an artist and receiving backlash from his friends, mainly Syed, for dating a white man.
You can binge watch the entire first season of the amazing webseries on the Slay TV YouTube channel.
